  1. I finally snagged a tough one. This one has been talked about a bit in the past as notoriously difficult for some reason. Its the single lone 9.4 copy with none higher. I've got a decent raw copy also, but this one has such a great wrap.
  2. That's not much of an overpay. It was the newsstand, they go for over 2K now. The Bats 227 was an overpay. 69K for an Avengers 4 9.6 is one of the worst I've seen Recently it would have to be the Marvel Previews 95 craze. There are going to be some very upset people once they find out how many are really out there.
  3. You wouldn't believe the amount of different niche junk I collect.
  4. Most (heck maybe all) key books in 9.8 goes for more as newsstand now. From Star Wars 42 a 1980 book to NM 98 to more recent books like Clone Wars 1. Plus a lot of books go for more in the 80's-mid 90's as newsstand in most any grade. It's vastly beyond 3 or 4 books. While newsstand were in fact more common up until around the mid 80's there is an idea of thought that newsstands were taken less care of and damaged more on the stands. Certain books are also very sought after in newsstand in any grade because of perceived rarity. An example would be something like Transformers 1.
  5. The spec is high with some of these books. We might be naming them Count Loose-YourShirt and Darth TulipBulb next. But who knows?
  6. As someone who has subbed many PSA 10's over the years, a sports card/non-sports card 10 is far less of a random event and can be predicted above 50% of the time.
  7. 9.8 is often your standard perfect book. 9.9 is usually.... A. when the census on a book is getting bigger, and CGC feels like dishing out some ratio love. B. CGC screwed up on a previous order and gave you a gift grade in return. C. The book was printed with more durable stock. 10.0 is usually.... A. When the census is getting even bigger, and CGC feels like dishing out some MORE ratio love. B. The book was printed with more durable stock. C. Willy Wonka is in a good mood
  8. That one keeps eluding me. Tough one. Such a great cover!
  9. Love that HOS 100. That copy is very well centered and white. Looks better than a 9.4. I've got the Pacific Coast copy of that one.
  10. They were horders and they would also stash money in strange places. She would find small stashes of money in the bedroom in different places. Sometimes between pages of old magazines or in small boxes scattered around. You would be shocked at the amount of different things they had going back to 1930's. I still have an old Cigarette vending machine from the 1950's that I need to sell packed in my garage from the that collection.
  11. It was the "Pennyworth copy" which really isn't a pedigree. Its a provenance. Really really nice centering and white pages helped it for certain. The QP is far superior to the Twin Cities copy. Not so sure about Bats 230, but good luck.
  12. If there is any Batman 227 that's undervalued its the foreign variants. Especially the Mexican, AU, Brazil Ebal and the Lebanon covers. With the Lebanon cover being next to impossible to get, followed by the AU Tip Top 98.
  13. I'm not so sure 30K will be a trend, Its yo-yo'ed up and down a few times. Took quite a long time to come close to match its early 10K range 9.8 sale or two. Certainly one of the top bronze age covers out there. But I can think of at least 4 or 5 other DC covers including Batman covers that are really quite nice as well and are much much tougher to get in grade. That buyer should have taken Metro's copy at 9K. I've had a couple 9.4's over the years and sold them hoping for a sweet 9.6. Now I think I'm just going to have to settle for a well centered white 9.4 but who knows.
  14. One of my favorites! Some strong prices also. I got wiped out on the few I was interested in. HOM 184 ended so high I might have to slab mine.
  15. The 9.8 is not a pedigree. I had a chance to see it in person but passed. I'm picky sometimes on centering and page quality. I've seen 9.6's in person that I thought were superior.
  16. Some more fun pics, Peanuts 1 7.5 from the same collection as the first pic. The Action Comics 20 was found by a dumpster diver near an apartment who sold it to me for $200. Missing last page. The Archie 1 was from the Colfax collection, cover still attached CGC 4.5 I believe The Donald Ducks was from a neighbor of my parents.
  17. Traveled 2.5 hours up north. Tried to work out a deal with a bunch of early Disney book's and old 1940's GG calenders. His wife stepped in and poo-pooed every deal we could come up with. Ultimately he wanted 4K for Disney books and 2K for the calendars. I offered 2.5K for the box of Disney books, which was too much anyway. His wife turned it down. So before I left he said, "I feel bad for you coming up here, so you can have these 2 beat up low grade Timely books for free." Needless to say...It was way worth it.
