  1. Well, the good news for the consignors is that this upcoming CC Event Auction is supposedly for their own books (i.e. non-consigned books) since it is going to be a dry run or test of their new auction website to ensure that everything is running fine. Since we are touching onto March already and their first Event Auction of the year is historically always scheduled for the first 2 weeks of March, it looks like this one is going to be running much later than usual from what I can see so far, which is still not fully populated with scans yet or even a set date for the end of ther auction. So, my assumption is that the consignor's auction will not be until the summertime and hopefully by then, they will have resolved this whole Coronavirus epidemic since the flu season will be over and the equity markets should hopefully start to recover by then.
  2. I don’t think it’s exclusive to CL. Books in recent HA weekly auctions have been going low too, at least relative to the last 2 or 3 years. Will be interesting to see how everything closes in their current event auction. As others have already mentioned, I certainly don't think this current stock market volatility is helping the situation at all: With the timing of these current auctions in light of the still rising coronavirus impact on the global equity markets, I would have to say that some are thinking "man I'm glad I don't need to bid on that book right now" since I don't know what's going to happen going forward. Then again, it makes me wonder what happened to all those buyers who said they simply can't wait for a downturn in prices so that they can finally afford to buy some of these books which had gone way past their purchase price point threshold?
  3. I remember 5 years ago you could get a 5.0 for $80k. ( which seemed crazy ) People were thinking that grade was double to triple only a few years ago. Would you just be referring to Mitch @Mmehdy with your comment here?
  4. The Cap 1s and Cap 3 final hammer prices are in this thread a page or two back. In summary, the Cap 1s were soft, the Cap 3 was ok(6 x guide, or, and the Cap 46 7.5 was Ok at $25k. Cap 1 7.5 went for 1.4 Guide Cap 1 5.0 went for 1.5 Guide Cap 3 5.0 went for 5 times Guide Cap 46 7.5 went for 2.3 times Guide All I can say is that Overstreet has clearly been understating and out of touch with respect to the market value of Cap 3 for several years now. Especially since this much in-demand book has continually sold for consistently huge multiples to guide in all condition grades across the entire condition spectrum, as compared to virtually all other GA super hero books.
  5. Well, did your bottle of the barrel tracking bids managed to snagged a few winners here on the first day then?
  6. Well, I thought the Cap 3 still came in allright at just a shade over $32K for a CGC 5.0 graded copy of this highly desirable book.
  7. Yes, I am quite sure the consignor of this copy here would be none too happy with the auction result here. Almost makes me wonder if the biggest 2-day drop in history that took place in the stock market today might have put a dampener on some of the bidding here?
  8. 732K to a Mil....not a bad investment return Only if it actually gets sold for the $1M figure, since that is only the Asking price at this point in time.
  9. Jim did get back to me and confirmed that my Jumbo Comics #113 is not part of the Allentown pedigree. Have never had any dealings with Payette to this point in time so far. Good to know that he is not only a top notch grader as per these Allentown books, but also provides timely responses to any enquiries sent his way.
  10. I would e-mail Stephen Fishler from Metto or James Payette of Rare Books with pics of the book. Just wondering if you ever got a response back from Payette with respect to you email enquiry on this copy of Jumbo 113?
  11. Unfortunately there will be no third time. Well, still being a relatively young man as compared to some of us old farts on the boards here, you should never say never.
  12. How about trying for a keeper when you go for third time lucky?
  13. I much prefer the Detective 71 cover with the large Joker image over either the 'Tec 62 ballon cover or the 'Tec 69 gun cover. Then again, I also would much rather go for the Batman 11 cover over all 3 of these other Detective covers.
  14. Would NEVER guess a super hero makes his first appearance inside that one! Yes indeed, if this first issue appearance also had any type of Arrow cover on it, this book would be in so much more demand and sought after. And I believe this humor cover is what makes this "hidden gem" such an underappreciated and undervalued book relative to his later Arrow covers. Of course, the price point on it would also be much more prohibitive and well beyond the affordability point which it currently still appears to be at.
  15. Can't wait to see your big one coming Yes, we are all still waiting in anticipation of your big one to come.
  16. Well, maybe it's like the movies where there's an earlier preliminary trial version without any of the facial makeup before he refines it into a much more polished and supposedly scarcier version of the Joker.
  17. Detective 27! Nah...........that one would come after he picks up the Church copy of Action 1 first.
  18. Yes, I need help And yet I believe this is the single overriding mentality that makes us all the true comic book collectors that we are nowadays.
  19. It's not the Joker. It's a figure that looks nothing like the Joker, that happens to be revealed to be the Joker in the story inside...but the visual depiction on the cover is not the Joker, It looks like this has been an ongoing controversy from way back in the day decades ago and also more recently on the boards here: Hate to be the bearer of bad news here, but it would appear that Overstreet has already made a clear and definitive determination on this very topic decades ago in his guide with the following description for Detective Comics #40, as I am sure you are fully aware of: "Origin & ist appearance Clayfce (Basil Karlo): 1st Joker cover appearance (6/40); Joker story intended for this issue was used in Batman #1 instead; cover is similar to splash page in 2nd Joker story in Batman #1"
  20. My problem is I keep all the catalogs I get and probably have a 6ft+ stack. Every time I think about getting rid of some I flip through them and say "you know, I might want that." Sounds like you are also a pack rat like me and simply just can't throw anything out. Do you also have all of those old auction catalogs from Sotheby's or what's even worse, all of the old dealer printed catalogs from way back in the days before they ever had auctions or even no internet at all back then?
  21. Details details. It’s the thought that counts. Yes, I guess we really can't complain at all since we receive their aution catalogs gratis anyways.
  22. Figure I'll stick around for a while. Seems to be quite a bit less traffic here these days? Well, welcome back to the boards again after an absence of quite a few years now. Yep, seems pretty much dead here as compared to the good old days when the boards were jumping with tons of action and posts. Maybe all of the old boardies have gone to the same place where you've been for the past few years?
  23. And, oddly enough, the lack of the same type of runup for Batman #11. Is there any more of a classic cover? Most definitely as I still remember when Batman 11 was clearly the primo classic Joker cover to go after back in the day. Since Joker is apparently so big with his Oscar nominated movie and all that, has anybody here noticed any movement in terms of 'Tec 40 since that book has now finally been designated as the first Joker cover after some controversy about it in the past?
  24. Yes, but did you noticed that they had the incorrect auction lot number on the cover for the console?
  25. the video game console is now down to 360K w/BP WTF !? Why can't early Tec auctions work that way Yes, it looks like this was already alluded to by Bronty last weekend: Well, either a dodgy bid or Ivy and Halperin's cronies went past their own bidding authorization limit?
