  1. Hi Guys, if they don’t shut down the show I’ll see you all there. If they do shut it down, we ( Dealers) are planning a contingent show somewhere in the Seattle area. Possibly a local Brewery, Cheers! Terry O. Well, that sounds like a fantastic idea as long as you don't decide to set it up at a local nursing home such as this one here or anywhere even remotely close to it:
  2. And yet with the low flu mortality rate, the United States alone on its own had something like 61,000 regular seasonal flu associated deaths during the 2018/19 flu season year. Definitely has to be put into perspective because although SARS had a global mortality rate of 9.6%, there were zero deaths in the United States from SARS.
  3. All I can say is that any short term speculator that pays a hefty premium due to movie hype on a GA book featuring a Tier 3 character that the general public has never heard of doesn't really understand how the GA comic book market works and is just asking for a big beatdown.
  4. I personally don't think the bump in grade for this particular book when it is still the highest graded copy either way will have any impact at all on the final price. My bet is that he will most likely lose big time money on this book since he grossly over paid in the first place on a relatively soft demand book, then threw unnecessary money to upgrade it, and finally brought it back to market way too soon. I certainly hope the consignor does alright in the end, but I guess they will not have to wait too long to find out.
  5. No, not really the stock market or even the coronavirus itself, but much more the fear mongering and the public's overreaction to it due to the media blowing the whole thing out of proportion with their ongoing real time body count.
  6. Well, from all of these cancellations which I am seeing down below, it almost gives you the impression that the Emerald City Con must have been scheduled right at the Life Care Center Nursing Home in Kirkland, Washington where virtually all of the Covid-19 cases actually are: https://www.notion.so/9d49bba6f99a455db7693951aeae99fc?v=6600f3b6457d4cf083ff6b20b0796140
  7. Can't recall seeing more than a couple others (Rick once or twice, maybe Jon Berk had one). I remember having the final issue of this short 3-issue Comic Pages run and ended up trading it off to Win as it was one of the final few books he needed to complete his Centaur run. If I remember correctly, he gave me back lower mid-grade copies of Comics Magazine #2 and Adventure Comics 45 in return. Thinking back, I probably should have taken the restored copy of Detective 18 with the classic Fu-Manchu cover instead, but then again.
  8. The flu has something like a 0.1% mortality rate, not a 1% rate. I guess it's all relative though. After all, 0.1% of 45 million seasonal flu cases is still going to be a substantially higher number than say 2.3% or slightly higher of say 1,000 Covid 19 cases.
  9. I would tend to agree with this, especially since it is really a homage cover to the all-time GA classic Detective 31 cover. If I had the choice and the money, I would much rather just go after the original 'Tec 31 book. I guess I can always dream, can't I?
  10. Iron Man 44, hmmm....................but unlike a GL 76 or a Marvel Spotlight 5, IM 44 is really nothing more than a mid-run non-key no name book in comparison. So, like this Iron Man 30 below (also a mid-run non-key no-name book), will it also sell for something like $15K when it was the only CGC 9.8 graded copy in the entire universe: Especially considering the fact that a second copy in the same CGC 9.8 grade surfaced the following year in 2017 and sold for only $6,300; which was then apparently followed by a third copy that ended up selling for only $3,150. Now, that there's a fourth CGC 9.8 graded copy listed in the census, I wonder what this copy will end up selling for.
  11. I just took a quick look at the HA archives and I guess it would really depend on the size of your wallet. Looks like the first issue will set you back at least $5K for anything in the low CGC 9's and touching onto $1K for the next few issues. I should ask my buddy what he's planning to do with his highest graded copies, but I am quite sure he's simply going to hold onto them since he doesn't need the money right now.
  12. I would venture to guess 'no', especially for books from the tough 1970-1972 period. CGC has been grading these for a full 20 years now. There is still only a single Avengers #93 in the census, and only two copies of Green Lantern #76. Ahhhhh yes...............the BIG BIG headline grabbing CGC 9.8 graded copy of Green Lantern 76: I still remember long time collectors in the hobby place had been wondering for several years if there would ever be such a thing as a CGC 9.8 graded copy of Green Lantern 76 since none had shown up after 10 long years of grading. Especially since CGC 9.8 graded copies of all other BA keys at the time had already shown up long before then. Still, the marketplace was shocked when this single highest graded copy at the time sold for somewhere north of $37K (top of guide at the time was only $2K), with many collectors commenting that was an insane price to pay as the book was not worth that kind of money. I guess their sentiments were vindicated as the book was resold a few years later in 2014 for just under $32K (top of guide at the time was now at $2,700) when it was now 1 of 2 highest graded copies. The buyer would probably had made out alright if they had held onto the book for a couple of years longer. Does anybody here know if the second CGC 9.8 graded copy was ever sold and if so, at what price point? Just wondering since I believe this big DC key and still rare in grade book should now most likely have absolutely no problems easily selling for more than its original $37K price point, considering how hot the market has been for key books over the past few years. Especially when you see other BA keys with multiple equivalent graded copies like Marvel Spotlight 5 selling for $48,500; Werewolf by Night 32 (1 of 18 equivalent graded copies ) selling for $50K; Tomb of Dracula 10 (single highest graded copy) selling for $85K; and the 2nd highest graded copy of Marvel Super-Heroes 13 at only CGC 9.6 selling for over $31K; with all of these books selling during the past few years.
  13. Not sure since I don't have any myself and not one of the pedigrees that I would pay much of a premium for, but this could be from the Crowley pedigree: http://comicpedigrees.com/pedigrees.php#CROWLEY
  14. I believe it's most likely Jason, because if it was Danny, half of his thumbnail would be gone. The post was on facebook. I did see Matt doing interview on why he don't use gloves after I saw the Sup 1 vid but not sure it was him doing the Sup 1. I was actually referring to the manicurist who did the micro-trim job on his nails, NOT whose hands those were in the video. As for whose hands those were in the video clip, based upon these posts in the other thread, they would definitely appear to be Matt's hands:
  15. Unfortunately, as I am sure you well know, they don't provide a complimentary press job for your book if you simply send them in for grading only. If the book had simply been sent in for grading only, you are going to have to send it back out for pressing upon receipt and then go through and pay to have the book regraded all over again.
  16. I can see the Bats books and X Men but the GL's? Not for me. To each their own, I would have to say then. For me personally, I would definitely keep GL 76 in there, but toss out the other 3 GL's along with the X-Men 58. I would then replace them with books like Jimmy Olsen 134, Detective's 400 & 411, and then a classic Adams cover book like Supes 233.
  17. https://apple.news/AmkvlICA2SaqKKKr35xEUsQ I can certainly understand why Disney and other travel related / entertainment companies or tech companies like Apple with supply chains out of China taking big hits to their share prices, but why a company like Google (i.e. Alphabet) which is not even allowed in China would also be taking similar big percentage hits to its share price?
  18. +1 Exactly right and that's why I've got a call into Donald right now as I am typing this.
  19. what about them? Well, if he's referring to the Disney Company itself, it'll probably be a good buy somewhere further down the line with their Disney streaming assets. Too much uncertainty right now in terms of their theme park closures, disincentive to attend large gatherings like movie theatres, cruise ship fiascos, etc.
  20. Are you not directly contradicting yourself here?
  21. Definitely sad to see that Avengers 93 with the beautiful squarebound 52-pager Adams cover and interior art become seemingly one of the lost and forgotten keys of the BA, because it was certainly one of the real go to and must have books books back in the day. If I remember correctly, it was also probably one of the most expensive, if not the leading BA book in terms of valuation back then. Definitely not the case anymore.
  22. Think it was Matt. Nah..........Matt's only good for pressing or giving his fingernails that extra loving squeeze to ensure they are tightly and firmly ensconced in place.
  23. I believe it's most likely Jason, because if it was Danny, half of his thumbnail would be gone.
  24. Congrats on finally be able to pick up the Frazetta copy of Personal Love that you've been hunting down for so long. I guess all of the vendors must have picked all of the good stuff before the doors were even opened to the public then. By the time I got around to his table, there really wasn't much left there for the late comers like me. Definitely nothing like the HG Overstreet copies for one of the Phantom Lady's and Seven Seas that he had a couple of summers ago.
