  1. Not sure what the going rate was for OA in the mid-90's, but even though that might have been a tidy sum of money back then, this still must have been considered to be as rare as hen's teeth.
  2. Well, the one silver lining in this rather sad post considering that your Mom forced you to sell your collection is that the chance of some of these early SA Marvel keys actually grading out to be 9.8 is highly unlikely. Especially when you take into consideration the fact that even with the new books off the shelf last week, it's still hard to get yourself a 9.8 graded book. So, definitely would be much tougher for books from some 60 years ago, especially since some of themlike the FF 5 and the Avengers 1 have yet to even have a single copy slabbed as a CGC 9.8 graded copy after some 20+ plus years of certification.
  3. Unless there were regional anomalies which is always possible, I don't believe the Frazetta Famous issues were quite up at those prices yet. I remember the LCS downtown had what appeared to be a HG set in their window display at something like $150 to $200 for each back in the late 70's or very early 80's. Unfortunately, my younger and stupider self back then was not yet into GA and didn't give any serious thought to picking them up at the time, even though I still to this day clearly remember how beaautiful they were looking through that window. According to CBM, looks like Overstreet sold his HG set (sans FF 213, 214, & 216 ) at $650 a pop back in '95 when they were guiding at something like only $265 or what amounted to almost 2.5X top of guide at the time.
  4. Sadly, no easing in sight and still rising on the books which I would be interested in acquiring for my personal collection.
  5. Why most definitely of course, since I need to use the Overstreet in order to determine the discount to condition guide which I am willing to pay for a book and then the multiple to condition guide at which I am willing to sell a book for.
  6. Well, looks like we've only got about 10 more sleeps until we find out what Overstreet does in his guide with respect to all of these dropping market prices on the SA and BA books. Especially with respect to the ones which he just jacked up by triple digit percentages in his last guide and which are mostly all now selling for significantly lower than condition guide valuations. Clearly a dilemna for poor old Bob here as this is never ever a spot which he wants to be caught in given his slow conservative track record with guide valuations over the decades.
  7. Well, all I can say is Those Indeed WERE The Days: Unfortunately for me, I got into vintage comic book collecting about 5 or 6 years too late or as John Snyder would tell me, I could have gotten some quality Edgar Church books into my collection from him. Then again, I most likely never would have been willing to pay that kind of money for them back then.
  8. Looks like it was $600 to be exact for FF 1 in top of guide Mint, but clearly overpriced with some of the others then since AF 15 was valued at only $360, ASM 1 at $300, Hulk 1 at $240, JIM 83 at $225, and the rest of the early ones including Avengers 1 barely cracking 3-figures. Clearly less popular was X-Men 1 at only $60 in top of guide Mint condition, or at the exact same price point as a couple of now classic GA goodies in the form of All-American 61 with the Solomon Grundy cover and Fantastic 3 with the robot cover. Way behind were books like Suspense 3 and Suspense 8 with the classic Cole spider cover at only $7.50 if you could actually find them at those prices which I would very much highly doubt. As for the Frazetta books, yep his Thun'da 1 was indeed valued at $360 (i.e. same as AF 15), yet his classic Buck Rogers Famouse Funnies 209 - 216 run were listed at only $75 a pop. If we only had a time machine and knew what we know now, and yet like I said, although the early SA Marvels might have been available at close to those prices, I highly doubt the GA books were actually available at those listed values.
  9. Well, back then $500 was indeed a lot of money to be spending on a book since that would have been well over top of guide for even all of the early SA Marvel keys save for FF 1. I still remember turning down a chance to pick up a HG set of Spidey 2 - 10 for only only $1K towards the end of 80's because the #1 was missing from the set. Figured that I would have time since they hadn't really gone up in value throughout the 80's and needless to say, this was right just before SA Marvels took off like a rocket at the turn of the 90's and haven't really looked back since. Even though they have really gone up in value, my real biggest regret now is missing out on all those first appearances of Spidey's key villians.
  10. Reminds me of Fishler at Metro back in the day..............if you ever asked him for a discount on a book, he would always say how about if he raised the price on it instead. If I remember correctly, I don't think I was ever able to get any type of discount from Fishler when he was the real power dealer back in those days.
  11. Buzz #70 or something that sounds like that? Yep, that was apparently indeed the last book for Ian to track down here: An rather obsure title with low demand and seemingly low supply with only 10 Universal copies graded to date so far. Personally, I thought it would have been one of the really early pre-hero DC books such as New Comics 2 with only single digit copies graded to date and all in extremely low grade or a book like New Fun 2 or Big Book of Fun which are not even graded by CGC due to their large size format. From my collecting experience, books from the 1935/36 time period and before are simply so much tougher to track down as compared to books for the later 30's and early 40's.
  12. I’ll bet a Techie bought the Supes 1 for 5 mill. And the last few Actions A better bet is that it was a Techie or a sports card newbie who had brought the CGC 7.0 copy of Supes 1 from CC for just over $2.6M back in December of 2021 and then lost a cool million on the book as it was sold for only $1.62M last month at Goldin. Love the way that CGC keeps promoting this $1.62M sales on their Main Page, but fails to mention that it's most likely the first record setting 7-figure million dollar loss for a CGC graded book.
  13. Yes, although it was sold in January of 2022 for $5.3M when it was tied for the highest graded copy at CGC 8.0 with a total of two copies, by the week of January 18th of 2022, the CGC Cenus Population report had already changed to one single highest graded copy at CGC 8.5 and one left behind in the dust at only CGC 8.0: http://www.cgcdata.com/cgc/search/comicid/1996 Isn't this about the spot where somebody like @tth2 chimes in and states how much he REALLY Really loves this hobby here.
  14. The 30th issue of Batman is pretty special. No doubt as I just read the Heritage Auction listing description and this issue features the first appearance of Ally Babble..........WhoTF?
  15. Eh, I got excited when I read about PLs being in the next auction, but when I looked at the preview they were all low grade copies. Yes, have you contacted your best buds at Heritage to let them know that if they continue to offer these bottom feeding mulch-grade GA books, you and the rest of your fellow deep pocketed bidders will no longer bother to even check out their auction offerings going forward?
  16. I believe you would be wrong here as this copy here sold for the only $175 in a CC Event Auction back in June of 2021: https://www.comicconnect.com/item/900652 While this more recognizable copy here sold for a much stronger price of some $7,101 in another CC Event Auction back in March of 2022: https://www.comicconnect.com/item/944947
  17. Not surprisingly and probably because I have one of these in my personal collection, not so much loving for this formerly classic GGA book: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/humor/torchy-5-quality-1950-cgc-vf-80-cream-to-off-white-pages/a/7339-94189.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 Especially since it seems to barely be able to fetch condition guide value in a market that's supposedly red hot when it comes to GGA books and you really can't get more GGA than this once much in-demand classic Bill Ward GGA cover book plus all of the interior sexy lingerie panels to boot.
  18. Yes, just checked and it certainly does look like it has some nice PL issues in their for their next Signature Auction in August, including these two: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/superhero/phantom-lady-17-fox-1948-cgc-fn-vf-70-pink-pages/p/7341-98002.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/superhero/phantom-lady-23-fox-1949-cgc-fn-65-white-pages/p/7341-98003.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 Sadly, with the prices these two copies would be going for, definitely out of my price range here since my pockets simply aren't deep enough.
  19. Don't know anything at all about First Edition books, but I was rather stunned at some of the prices that these books are going for: https://comics.ha.com/itm/books/hardcover/assorted-hardcover-books-box-lot-various-publishers-1890s-1970s-total-2-box-lots-/a/122327-11350.s?type=lotlink--bidnotice-tracked-dailystatus Sold for what I thought was a rather strong $7,800 and interesting to see that Heritage now always have auction lots of these books at the end of their weekly Sunday GA auction.
  20. As I had already alluded to in another thread here, maybe it simply means that the stigmatized acronym of PLOD that we have all become so accustomed to now also stands for something else, namely the "Promise Label of Death". Sadly , it would seem that with all of the overblown hype from Heritage and resulting heightened expectations for these books, now that they are coming back to market with unsustainable and disappointing resales results, The Promise label is really in most cases just a stigmatized label. In moist cases, bidders are probably simply goin in and checking on the previous results and then applyong some sort of big percentage discount to come up with their new highest bid. Like with the PLOD restored books when they first came out and selling at such bargain prices when CGC first started up, there's now probably some good deals in there with some of these recycled Promise books going forward longer term if you are both patient and selective. Looking through the rear view mirror now, I certainly wished that I had picked up a few more SP restored books then the few that I got back in the day for small fractions to condition guide, whereas some of the HTF more desirable books even in restored condition are now going for a nice premium to condition guide value.
  21. Didn't see the Dynamic 8. Was it lower grade? Such a tough issue (unless you are Comic Jack). Found it on the CC website with "Upcoming Auction Dates TBD" and really no surprise, looks nicer than its assigned CGC 4.5 grade: https://www.comicconnect.com/item/1006340 Grader Notes tears & pieces out spine moderate cover tanning Doesn't look like much on the Graders Notes and if I remember correctly, didn't we see Promise books with mouse chews going right through the enitre book still get grades up into the 8's.
  22. A bit surprised that CGC would be giving this collection a special label notation since it's all going to CC for auction. Now, if it was going to Heritage, then I would not be as suprised. Not sure, but maybe the submittor will end up getting some punishment grading for going with CC instead of being rewarded with some Promise quality grading if they had gone with Heritage for the auctioning of their books here.
  23. 2 different collections currently being discussed: 1. Fantast collection 2. Instagram Golden Age collection (only a small % of recent posts); most/all (?) sent to CGC and coming back with a BOBBY BLUE (wtf?) label note. (If that doesn't show money talks with CGC...) Between all of the mixed messages which I am reading here, it sounds like much more than 2 different collections are being discussed here. Some boardies here are talking albout a 300K collection of books including some GA , with some saying that it sold for only $340K. This makes absolutely no sense at all as that works out to only $1.13 per issue, and if that was the case, you would see Heritage and CC all over the collection even if it included some Modern day drek along with the GA DC's, Timely's like All-Select 1, Cap 3, and PCH books.
  24. If that’s the one on IG 99% of the books aren’t worth slabbing, right? I would also tend to agree with your POV here and find it rather surprsing that CGC would give this type of collection a special label, but then again, money always talk. Like I've always said, in today's comic book ,marketplace, it is so much easier to sell one $10,000 comic book, as opposed to trying to sell a thousand $10 comic books. Almost makes me wonder what kind of dastardly deeds the Golden Age Guru must have done in his life to date to deserve being buried under 300K of drek books.
