  1. Kind of reminds me of the days of Jason when some would open their wallets as wide as possible for his so-called uber "HG" books, while others would run as fast and as far away as they could.
  2. Isn't that redundant? Are you still spending time admiring your good Texan looks in front of the mirror?
  3. I guess there's no Flash Gordon movie in the works (but maybe another Flesh Gordon movie ), but still rather surprised this book here wasn't able to garnered any additional bids in the last days of the auction here and finished up at only $690: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/adventure/four-color-512-flash-gordon-dell-1953-cgc-nm-92-off-white-to-white-pages/a/40234-82117.s?ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Archive-ThisAuction-120115 Especially since this same copy here, albeit in one slight grade increment higher and better centered, if I remember correctly was able to move up from somewhere in the $500 range all the way up to $2,725 during the extended 3-minute bidding sessions at CC a couple of years ago: https://www.comicconnect.com/item/820394 Then again, it must have been the QES sticker that drove the bidding price all the way up there.
  4. Well, if I remember correctly, haven't they already had a couple of poorly reviewed and live action versions of the Flintstones that turned out to be big box office bombs and clearly not as much fun as the original cartoon versions that we saw back in the 60's. Maybe they need to come up with a postive reviewed version that turns into a box office hit for the new generation of movie goers.
  5. Clearly not in the same league as Richie Rich who was able to hit 6-figures, but looks like Freddy and the gang still came close to 5-figures: https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/cartoon-character/dell-giant-48-dell-1961-cgc-nm-mt-98-off-white-to-white-pages/a/40234-82043.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 Sold for what I assume would be a record price at $9,600 for what is acknowledged to be Flintstones #1.
  6. Well, based upon what we've seen in the marketplace, I would have to say that any hype from movies and TV when it comes to the DC characters is nowhere close to being as crazy and bringing in the speculators when compared to the Marvel movies and TV shows. Perect case in point being the Gotham TV series which ran for 5 seasons featuring the Penguin as the constant ongoing villian throughout all 5 seasons and have we really seen any movement on prices for the Penguin related books. Not quite as obvious, but have we seen any movement with respect to any of the JSA characters even though they have made their way through many of the DC TV shows and even onto the big screen like Doctor Fate?
  7. Wow, credibility being restored! Although Mitch's revised POV on the Promise books might now be viewed as the general rule, I guess there will always be pleasant exceptions to the general rule such as this mid-run Batman book here: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/superhero/batman-43-dc-1947-cgc-nm-92-white-pages/a/7340-92020.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 Especially noteworthy in the fact that although the CGC 9.2 graded Promise Collection copy of this book had sold for a relatively strong $6,600 back in November of 2021, this was subsequently followed up by equivalent graded non-pedigree CGC 9.2 sales of $7,200 in May of 2022, $7,800 in January of 2023, and now a rather surprisingly strong $8,700 in the Heritage Signature Auction last Thursday.
  8. Promise books are a great investment Maybe it would be more ap pros po if it was renamed as the "Over Promise and Under Deliver" Collection.
  9. Then again, it looks like the classic Frank Frazetta Famous Funnies Buck Rogers issues are continuing to rocket their ways upwards: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/science-fiction/famous-funnies-212-eastern-color-1954-cgc-vf-nm-90-cream-to-off-white-pages/a/7340-92073.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/science-fiction/famous-funnies-209-bethlehem-pedigree-eastern-color-1953-cgc-nm-96-off-white-to-white-pages/a/7340-92071.s?lotPosition=1&ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Archive-ArchiveSearchResults-012417 As I had posted on the GA boards, looks like this is the first time that one of these issues have managed to hit the $30K price point in terms of the CGC 9.0 graded copy of FF 212. Even more telling though, is the fact that the much more readily available and common FF 209 was able to cross over the $20K threshold level when it had never ever caame close to hitting 5-figures before in the past.
  10. Haven't taken a real close look at the results yet, but if this is any indication, then it looks like the SA Marvels might still be easing a bit: https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/superhero/fantastic-four-1-marvel-1961-cgc-vf-85-off-white-to-white-pages/a/7340-91044.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 Finished up at a seemingly lowly $117K which looks like a pretty sizable drop from the $200K+ price points which equivalent graded 8.5 copies were able to get last year, but pretty much where they were back in 2019 prior to the Covid gold rush.
  11. I should have grabbed the whole small pile of them which the owner had in his hands, but I was clearly not a hoarder. Then again, he probably wouldn't have given me my copy for free since he was probably tired of me sitting in his store reading and mishandling all of his comics.
  12. Took a closer look at this copy of Richie Rich 1 here that was auctioned off for a rather astounding $108K which still kind of boggles my mind. Maybe it's just me, but if I was going to spend 6-figures on a book (which I would never do) with other multiple equivalent graded copies, I would have gone for one without those spine ticks below the bottom staple and also one with shaper corners. No Grader Notes for this copy here, but looks like it was graded back in 2011 which is supposedly one of CGC's softer grading time periods.
  13. I was in absolute shock when CC was able to auction off a copy for over $40K back in 2015 which was well before prices started to run up and we got used to big 5-figures and now sometimes even 6-figures for some of these books here. I imagine it's only a matter of time before we see a high enough graded copy of this iconic book hit the marketplace at 6-figures.
  14. I really really sincerely wish this was true, but sadly nowhere even close to this number here.
  15. Well, all I can say is that it's about time that these super rare early DC pre-hero "non-adventure" theme covers gets some much deserved and long overdue loving from the comic book marketplace: https://comics.ha.com/itm/platinum-age-1897-1937-/miscellaneous/more-fun-comics-10-dc-1936-cgc-vf-nm-90-off-white-to-white-pages/a/7340-92104.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 Sadly, I imagine its extreme rarity is also a key factor in keeping prices down for these early types of books due to the lack of market turnover.
  16. Well, if this keeps up and I certainly don't see any change in the downtrend to date, we might just have to rename this thread to "Post Your Promise Collection Wins Losses".
  17. Yes. Because it the Allentown copy. Very tuff to get with only 135 copies in the entire collection. Anyway it was rejected Sadly, I totally get this now which is something I did not back in 2000 when I let 3 of them go when I consign about a dozen books to the big Greg Manning Auction back then as a test of the new CGC grading system. If I remember correctly, all three of them graded out between CGC 9.2 through to CGC 9.6.
  18. Likewise with Silver Surfer 1 also selling for $108,000 or thereabouts (can't remember exactly where or when) when it's also not the actual first appearance of Silver Surfer. Then again, I am most definitely all for it since I do have a HG raw copy of Silver Surfer 1 in my personal collection which the store owner was kind enough to let me cherry picked from the pile before he put the rest of them onto the shelf for sale. Unfortunately for me, that short Giant Size run for the first seven issues were the only books that I cared enough to do that for.
  19. Maybe the haze is starting to dissipate and we are seeing clear skies ahead because if Richie Rich can do it, why not Silver Surfer 1 again: https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/humor/richie-rich-1-harvey-1960-cgc-nm-96-off-white-to-white-pages/a/7340-91051.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 Look like this copy "eased" itself into a very comfortable $108K considering there are 4 copies in this equivalent grade with another 6 knocking right on its front door plus all of the other Harvey File Copies that are sitting raw in personal collections still waiting to be graded.
  20. Rather surprisingly as I had posted in the Famous Funnies thread, definitely NOT the case with the Frazetta Famous Funnies books as I believe this is the first time that one of them have hit the $30K price point (i.e. the CGC 9.0 graded copy of FF 212) and also the first time that a copy of the much more common FF 209 have even come close to hitting 5-figures, let alone cross the $20K threshold level: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/science-fiction/famous-funnies-212-eastern-color-1954-cgc-vf-nm-90-cream-to-off-white-pages/a/7340-92073.s?ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Archive-ThisAuction-120115 https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/science-fiction/famous-funnies-209-bethlehem-pedigree-eastern-color-1953-cgc-nm-96-off-white-to-white-pages/a/7340-92071.s?ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Archive-ThisAuction-120115
  21. I think there's clearly two separate markets here as the Promise Collection books should be viewed as an separate entity on its own and not mixed in with the GA market. Similar in vein to how there are two separate markets for PLOD books as compared to their Universal counterparts in terms of their rate of return as they certainly seem to be carrying some kind of stigma in some sort of weird inverse realtionship to their overblown hype in their first run.
  22. Don't know if it's sad or happy to say that there's clearly no slowdown in these Frazetta Famous Funnies books with these results here. If I am correct, I believe that this is the first time that one of them has hit the $30K threshold (i.e the CGC 9.0 graded copy of FF 212) and also the first time that the much more readily available and more common FF 209 has managed to even come close to hitting 5-figures, let alone cross the $20K threshold level.
  23. Looks like we are going to get another opportunity to see how the Frazetta Famous Funnies market is doing later this afternnon: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/science-fiction/famous-funnies-209-bethlehem-pedigree-eastern-color-1953-cgc-nm-96-off-white-to-white-pages/a/7340-92071.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/science-fiction/famous-funnies-211-eastern-color-1954-cgc-vf-nm-90-off-white-pages/a/7340-92072.s?lotPosition=1&ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Open-SearchResults-120115 https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/science-fiction/famous-funnies-212-eastern-color-1954-cgc-vf-nm-90-cream-to-off-white-pages/a/7340-92073.s?lotPosition=2&ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Open-SearchResults-120115 https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/science-fiction/famous-funnies-216-bethlehem-pedigree-eastern-color-1955-cgc-vf-85-cream-to-off-white-pages/a/7340-92074.s?lotPosition=3&ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Open-SearchResults-120115 Major difference this time being that these 4 copies here are in realtively high grade condition, whereas in the recent past they've generally been in lower to mid-grade condition. Looks like the current leader of the pack is not surprisingly, Famous Funnies 212, which is currently sitting at
  24. I've always like the comic book original version much better than Lichtenstien's pop art version of the same image, but just couldn't find it.
  25. I don't know. It would probably be the Frazetta painting Egyption Queen for 5.4. Not sure if this would qualify, but it sure makes Frazetta's art look like chump change price wise when you have Lichtenstein's "Masterpiece" sell for a rather astounding $165M back in 2017: All I can say is that I certainly hope that he gave some kind of kickback to the original comic book artist who had originally drew this image.
