  1. Yes, it's most definitely hard to beat a Church copy of any book. That is, unless you've got the highest graded copy of one of these later rare HTF Fox books that doesn't have a Church copy or in fact, any other known pedigree copy, such as: Still a nice copy, but probably could do with a bit less of the crinkling that seems to be taking place on the top edge there.
  2. Would this also apply to all of those near last issue Atlas hero books like Human Torch and Young Men also?
  3. Well, I guess we sort of have a quasi thread going about the CC Winter Event Auction if you advance to near the top of Page 3 of this thread here: https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/443049-detective-38-listed-on-cc-w-eoy-auction-now-added/?page=3
  4. ...I concur. It will be one for the ages for sure. Wonder if this is going to be scheduled for CC's 2019 Spring Event Auction typically scheduled for March/April or will some of them still need slabbing and as a result, held over for the 2019 Summer Event Auction which usually runs in the August / September time frame. Methinks it might even be segregated on its own and scheduled for the June time period, similar to what took place for the once in a lifetime generational Jon Berk Auction in 2016 and the not quite as impressive Second City Auction held last summer. If so, it will probably have to encompass a lot more than just the Centaurs. No matter how it's done, can't wait to bid on some of those rare and truly HTF Centaurs.
  5. 3300! Double the one that ended on 11/29. The 9.6 almost tripled what the one from 11/29 went for...450 vs 1147. And last night's 9.4 was about the same as the 11/29 9.6! Movies make it happen. At least for a while. And for those of you who were unfortunate enough to have missed your chance on the above 2 copies, well this then is your lucky day: And to think, this CGC 9.6 graded copy from the CL Exchange can be ALL YOURS for the piddly and measly sum of only $1,800. Now, that's another classic case of over bloated movie hype if I ever saw one.
  6. Anybody here lucky enough or had deep enough pockets to have picked up this nice looking copy of Mystery Men 25 in the recent CL auction: Definitely a gorgeous looking copy relative to its assigned CGC grade. Love the bright red cover to boot which makes it really stand out.
  7. Oh wow, a nicely presenting copy (i.e. relative to grade) of what is acknowledged to be one of the Top 3 rarest DC books of all time and one that you hardly ever see in any type of condition.
  8. I think China limits the number of weeks foreign movies can play - it will play much longer in NA, hence the stronger legs over here. Well, maybe Trump can do something about that in his ongoing seemingly never-ending China / USA trade negotiations.
  9. we'll see - to an extent these things are critic proof and "stock" isn't reacting negatively (still estimating $240-260MM US, China likely won't get that high) In that case, I guess the North American movie market must have stronger legs than the Chinese market with an opening weekend that is already substantially higher than the forecast opening weekend for the NA market.
  10. Well, looks like China will be a much bigger market for Aquaman than all of North America then. Shouldn't really be that surprising, I guess, if you take the huge population of China into account. But still, not bad results for an American made movie in a foreign though once unfriendly market like China.
  11. Well, I assume the comic book portion would have been around $2,000 as he probably had to pay full cover price for all of them. At least that's what the family ask for from Chuck for the entire collection. They probably thought he was some know nothing nutso for agreeing to pay full cover price for what were basically used funny books. And a poor one at that since poor Chuckles didn't even have the two grand to pay for the books and had to go borrow it from Burrell Rowe down in Texas.
  12. Greatly appreciate the link although it doesn't yet sound like a sure thing, considering that they said it's still in the early stages and no filmmaker on board yet. If I was speculating, I would place a higher bet on Shang-Chi MOKF hitting the big screen as opposed to Plastic Man. Either way, Police Comics 1 with the first appearance of Plastic Man and the still as of yet under appreciated Phantom Lady (i.e. prior to Matt Baker's take) would appear to be a good buy going forward.
  13. I just checked and there was 3 Hulk 1s up in one auction so that may have hurt sales a bit. +1 Yes, definitely doesn't help when there are so many copies of the exact same book in the auction at the same time. Besides the 3 copies of Hulk 1in the auction, it looks like there were 5 copies of AF 15 for the potential bidders to pick and choose between.
  14. First that I have heard of a Plastic Man solo movie. Do you have a link for this announcement? The only one that I have heard about recently is the Shang-Chi MOKF movie that has just been announced as part of the next phase of the Marvel movie universe (i.e. MCU Phase 4). Apparently this is going to be their Asian take to cash in on the ethnic diversity and inclusion theme that proved to be so successful with the Black Panther movie and the more recently released Crazy Rich Asians featuring pretty much an all ethnic cast and director. Not surprisingly, the much under appreciated and long dormant copies of Special Marvel Edition 15 featuring the first appearance of Shang-Chi has now apparently more than doubled in price since this announcement came out last week.
  15. +1 Absolutely loved the Paul Gulacy artwork on MOKF and the main reason why I picked up that early part of the run with the Gulacy interior artwork.
  16. But would they without this specific crossover incentive going on right now. if CGC starts mass down grading the books from other companies, the crossover promotion really isn't going to work for its intended purpose. So, from your point of view, what do YOU believe is CGC's REAL intended purpose with this crossover program?
  17. Maybe, but that doesn't mean much today when the last issue came out over 35 years ago. Well, my bet is that if Shang-Chi MOKF gets the official go ahead for film production, you will certainly be seeing the comic book series going forward.
  18. And as I posted on the Shang-Chi movie thread, this is way long overdue and an absolute no-brainer for Marvel to make a movie based upon this easily adaptable character. Especially if they are thinking of ethnicity after both the box office and critical success of the Black panther movie earlier this year. After all, there is a huge Asian population out there and China is rapidly becoming the dominant global market out there, even in terms of the movies now. As a further example of this, just take a look at the blow out numbers for the Aquaman movie which was by far the top grossing movie this past weekend with an astounding $94M in just one market. This 3-day opening in China topped the entire run for the Wonder Woman movie over its entire span in China. Looks like DC is going to have a unexpected surprising winner on their hands here.
  19. Well, this is definitely LONG OVERDUE as I have been saying for years now that Shang-Chi would make for an absolutely wonderful character for the MCU movies and easily adaptable. An absolute no-brainer for Marvel from my personal point of view and definitely a much better idea than Marvel trying to have a white washed Iron Fist attempting to do a movie based upon the Asian martial arts. Does anybody here have that very well done link to that trailer clip that a fan had done up for the Shang-Chi movie. It was very well done in the dark moody Gulacy / Steranko style?
  20. So, instead of having a book that would be worth thousands or possibly even tens of thousands of dollars in my collection, I am stuck with a much more mainstream limited book which has now been reprinted countless times and one that I will most likely not be able to recoup my money on if I ever do decide to sell it. Oh well, I guess you win some and you lose some in this game.
  21. Although I can definitely understand the rationale here, surprisingly this was not actually true in all cases. I can still clearly remember back around the mid 90's in '94 and '95 when GA was super red hot and dealers would offer multiples to top of guide for pedigree books sight unseen and simply based upon their reputation alone. I remembered being offered 4 figures or 5X what I had paid a few years earlier for a book which I had in my personal collection. When I told the dealer he was crazy since he had not seen the actual book and it was not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, he said it didn't matter as he already had ready buyers in place who would be more than happy to pay 50% above what he was offering me for the book.
  22. Yes, that would be a nice addition to the website. I's actually pretty amazing how much we(CGC customers) accept on good faith. They are not a very transparent company. I hope we don't find out someday that it was all smoke and mirrors. I am pretty sure it's not all smoke and mirrors, especially since I heard the oversized dartboard is the main component as it's front and center in their grading room.
  23. Brings back memories of me standing in a comic shop back in the mid 80's and making the wrong choice on a book. The owner of the LCS asked if I would be interested in acquiring a copy of the limited signed and numbered hardcover edition of the Dark Knight Returns since he could order me a copy for $40 since it had either just come out or was about to come out. When I told him to go ahead and order a copy for me, he then asked if I would be interested in obtaining a copy of the limited first edition of TMNT for $300 since he could get one for me directly from the publisher. Being a mainstream (as opposed to underground) comic book collector, when he showed me some sample pages of artwork from TMNT, I thought who in their right mind would ever think of paying $300 for a B&W book with that crudely poorly garbage artwork that was drawn in there.
  24. I just tried Google for him and guess what.............it sent me a link right back to this CGC board thread here.
  25. I totally get what you are saying here. As with the Jon Berk Collection, I was determined to get one of the books from his collection and was totally happy that I was able to snag 4 of them by the time it was all said and done. Truth be told though, looking backwards and after the fact now, I probably should have bidded a bit higher on some of those earlier lots. Similar to the Jon Berk books, like you, I would also be quite happy if I am able to come away with a quality book for my own personal collection.
