  1. Any guesses as to where this not the highest graded copy of Wonderworld 15 will end up at by the time it's all said and done tomorrow night: Already at an astounding and surprising $7,300 with another almost full day to go. Especially surprising since the highest that Heritage was ever able to get was only $1,150 for the CGC 8.0 graded Larson copy way back in 2005. Coupled with the fact that this could also end up beating the Jon Berk / Edgar Church highest graded CGC 9.0 copy which sold for only $8K about a year and half ago.
  2. Its better than the ten cents that it first went for Well, unlike back issues of recent MA books where I would never even think of paying cover price for them, I'll have you know that I am more than willing to dig deep into my pockets and pay full cover price for these GA beauties like Ace 11.
  3. Yes, looks like it ended up selling for $4,577 or almost 3X condition guide price: http://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FDEFAULT.ASP%3FFOCUSED%3D1%26x%3D30%26y%3D13%26pg%3D39%23Item_1286076&id=1286076&itemType=0 Not sure if this is a soft or strong price for this book, considering how very seldom a copy ever comes to market.
  4. Why, was the $218K figure for the earlier sale deemed to be a lower than normal price for a CGC 8.0 graded copy of AF 15? I noticed that these auction houses seems to have no problems "boasting" about previous sales when they are deemed to be on the high side, as evident from this listing for Blue Beetle 52 that finished last night at $3,900: http://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FDEFAULT.ASP%3FFocused%3D1%26pg%3D47%26x%3D44%26y%3D13%23Item_1275213&id=1275213&itemType=0
  5. Thanks. I looked. Do they have a history function. Do you remember what it sold for? I gotta write these sales down so as I can remeber. Don't you absolutely hate it that CL has no historical archives like Heritage or at least even email messages like CC whereby you can do your due diligence and search for past sales.
  6. Well, a CGC 5.0 graded copy going for $36,300 in today's CL auction definitely sounds quite a bit lower than the $57K that CC was able to get for their CGC 5.0 graded copy back in the Spring of 2017. Of course, with these AF 15's, it's also how the book presents relative to its assigned grade and not the just the CGC label itself. Actually, a good sign since it's a case of buying the book as opposed to just buying the label.
  7. +1 Definitely an understatement when it came to his superb work on the Avengers. I still remember when his Avengers 93 was one of the highest price BA books out there and one of the must have keys out there. Unfortunately, not so much the case anymore as it has for some strange reason fallen way down on the valuation chart when it comes to BA books.
  8. And this is why I have stated on many occasions here, that every CGC slab should really come with an expiry date or have a Best Before date on the label. Would do absolute wonders for both their top line and bottom line and keep their parent CCG company very happy.
  9. Wow, has everybody lost interest in the AF 15 marketplace in comparison to the past couple of years, or is the hype suddenly gone. A total of 5 AF 15's just went in today's CL auction and not a single comment so far here about any of these sales. Looks like the range went from $17,250 for a CGC 3.0 all the way up to $210K for a CGC 8.0 graded copy. Since I am not a real close follower of the AF 15 marketplace, any thoughts as to whether these are the new going rates or a bit under the recent going rates?
  10. Surprised to see this thread buried all the way back on Page 8 with the last post from August. Especially considering that CL appears to have quite a few nice copies of Amazing Mystery Funnies in their auction today, including these 3 beauties amongst others:
  11. You mean like this CGC 8.5 graded Billy Wright copy fo All-Star Comics 3 that was sold for just over $49K on Heritage: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/all-star-comics-3-billy-wright-pedigree-dc-1940-cgc-vf-85-off-white-to-white-pages/a/7054-91043.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 and then resold by the buyer through Heritage's Make Offer to Owner function for $200K right after that. I am sure GPA picked up the $49K initial sale by Heritage, but not so sure about the follow-up sale for $200K.
  12. Now, that's definitely what I would call a upgrade for almost all of us here. Congrats on your gorgeous copy here.
  13. While I would dearly love to own a Church Planet I think the numbers are going to be extremely high and I am likely going to be passing on them. Well, welcome to my world then since I would appear to be a chartered member here.
  14. Well, let's hope that the "worthy" half is worth more than enough to offset the cost of the other half that is "worthless".
  15. Well, hopefully you can update this thread again after the middle of next month. Especially when it looks like there will be a potential upgrade for all issues assuming you are willing to dig deep down into your pockets.
  16. Would definitely want to see the interior first few pages of that baby. Nah, you would probably just ask to see the remaining 60 interior pages of the book after that. Better to just get the Grader's Notes for the book. No point for me to pay for notes since I wouldn't even be able to afford this book in CGC 2.5 graded condition, let alone in its current nicely presenting CGC 7.5 graded condition. Well, here's another CGC 7.5 graded copy where the notes indicate all of the defects to be clearly visible on the covers as seen below: Looks like if it wasn't for those cover defects, the book would have graded much closer to the 9's since the interior white pages were apparently perfect.
  17. Thanks Lou! I give you props. That's one of the nicest All-American 61s I have ever seen! Well, it looks like it's your lucky day then. This book can be all yours in a few short weeks from now if you happen to hit the right buttons on your keyboard at the right time.
  18. Speaking of which, have you subbed any of your Last Galactus Story in Epic, or is that on your radar? It was #25-34, right? What a fantastic 9.8 run that would be. Much harder than I thought: 25: 1 9.8 blue 26: 1 9.8 blue/1 9.8 sig 27: no 9.8s, HGC 9.6 28: 1 9.8 sig 29: 1 9.8 blue 30: 1 9.8 blue 31: no 9.8s, HGC 9.6 32: 1 9.8 blue 33: no graded copies at all 34: 4 9.8 blue/4 9.8 sigs None currently for sale on eBay, no closed sales. Wow, this would be tough to do. From looking at the CGC population census report, it would appear there's a reason why this one would be tough to put together. For most of those books listed here, the total population count is only 1 and with that one copy of course being both the highest graded copy and the lowest graded copy at the same time. This indicates to me that the sole reason why it's tough to put a CGC 9.8 run or even any graded run together is that nobody really thinks it's even worthwhile to slab those kinds of books in the first place.
  19. Ask and ye shall receive: Even with the obvious discoloring around the edges, it still looks pretty nice for a CGC 7.5 graded copy, especially considering it's almost 75 years old. I would still take it.
  20. Nevertheless, I would stay take this lowly graded CGC 7.5 book over that uber HG 9.8: As the title of the thread says.........Having a Hard Time Believing This Is (Only) a 7.5.
  21. And yet as I have said many times here before.........in today's comic book marketplace, it is certainly a whole ton easier to sell one $10,000 comic book as opposed to trying to sell one thousand $10 comic books.
  22. Oh wow, I just can't wait!!! So, are you saying that I only have to wait about another 10 years and I'll be rolling in the dough with my copies of books like Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters, the Malibu Ultraverses line of books like Ultraforce, Prime, etc, the Marvel U.K. line of books like Death's Head, Battletide, Killpower, or the Dark Horse Comics Greatest World line of books like Barb Wire, Motothead, Ghost, etc, etc, etc...... ???? m
  23. Well, I would say that your definition of "hobby" is clearly different from my definition then. I would say that if you have 25 copies of any recently published book, I would tend to call it a speculative gamble as opposed to either an investment or a hobby. If you have only one copy of a particular book, then I would lean more to calling it a hobby then.
  24. That's the 5.0 that went for $57K in the spring of 2017. Yes, wasn't that the one you was initially thinking of bidding on, but changed your mind in the end for one reason or another?
  25. This. fc looks VF'nish Agree, but it looks like it was the back cover and possible ancillary damage (if any) to some of the interior pages that pulled the grade down to a VG/F: Since it's mostly about the front cover though, I would most definitely still choose this copy over the other copy depending upon what's in the Grader's Notes.
