  1. Definitely a long and much under appreciated book from my point of view and a beautiful pickup for any collector. Especially since I consider it to be a poor man's version of the much more highly acclaimed and classic Suspense 3 cover by Schomburg that would come out a couple issues later.
  2. Well, sold for $9,000 and it certainly looks like somebody was quick on the draw and able to make out like a bandit on this book here:
  3. Well, it certainly looks like somebody made out like a bandit to have the book go from only $1,500 all the way up to $9,000 in only a couple of short months.
  4. Greetings, fellow magazine enthusiasts! From what I've been able to ascertain, one of the issues with doing some of the non-comic related magazine titles is the amount of research involved. For instance, while certain titles meet the size and page count criteria, they pose a significant time constraint when assessing things like inserts, numbering, variant covers, special editions, et cetera. Believe me, there are some books that I'd like to see incorporated into CGC's portfolio, but as of now, the people involved with certifying these books are already very, very busy. But never say never... Well, it looks they they are also grading back issues of the first Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide: This copy here just sold for an absolutely stunning $9,000 in the just completed Heritage Auction the other day.
  5. I think it might be due to comics being stack on top of each other... I feel like I see this often with older comics too.. Yes, except this spine roll on the Spidey 301 here appears to be relatively severe for such a recent book. And I am certainly not that enamoured with the multiple and rather obvious stress ticks on the spine of the book. Aren't these the kind of defects that the current grading team at CGC usually applies a very heavy hammer to.
  6. They ship each tier back to you separately. For example, if you send in 3 moderns & 1 Value, you will receive 2 shipments. Can you not ask for them to be held and shipped back to you all together? It would definitely help by keeping your shipping charges down to a much more reasonable amount if you have to pay for it. If shipping is included in the grading charges, then it really doesn't matter, although it's still more convenient to get them all back at the same time.
  7. That rascal's got really good-sized hands! And I am sure we all know what that means. As I am sure she also must obviously know from how close and tight she is holding onto him.
  8. And to all those naysayers who have always doubted CGC's consistency when it comes to grading: Definitive proof beyond a shadow of doubt that they are absolutely wrong because no matter how long I look at these 2 equivalent graded copies of AF 15 here, I just can't see a single iota of difference between the two of them: Or not!!!
  9. Definitely a nice pickup in terms of the Blue Beetle 1, but shouldn't you also be posting this beauty that you picked up on Thursday:
  10. Would this book be an example of what you are talking about: Sold for something like $660, although I believe the CGC 9.4 graded copy of this same book sold recently on one of the auction sites that I can't seem to find anymore. Not sure if this copy sold for a soft price or a high price since there's only 4 copies that's been graded so far, with the remaining 2 copies in the lower grade range. Definitely a nice GGA cover from my personal point of view in terms of the cheerleader.
  11. Never got around to reading the series even though I managed to cherry picked minty fresh copies right off the newsstand. Always said I would, but still not yet after all these decades. Surprisingly strange that I would have the entire series though since I was normally more into buying the first 10 issues only back then. Should pull them out of those 40 year old poly bags since I wonder if these movie characters even have any relationship to the ones from the Jack Kirby series of books.
  12. Yes, the fading or washing out might be from the scanner settings being set too high, as based upon the brightness of the CGC label. I guess I am just not too enamoured with what's going on with the top left hand spine area of the book. And yet, if I take a look at this highest graded copy of Wonderworld Comics #24 from 1941 with the exact same CGC 5.5 grade and PQ, it would appear to be a lot nicer from an overall visual point of view: Definitely a lot less wear along the spine as compared to the AF15, although there is some obvious crinkling along the top edge which I imagine is what must have killed the grade for this book as that kind of defect is an absolute no-no with the current grading team that is is place at CGC.
  13. From just looking at this front cover which is never a sure thing, there's probably a good reason why it was priced with a lower BIN relative to its assigned grade. Makes me wonder if somebody forgot to take their glasses to work that day. Especially when compared to some of the mid-grade GA books that I have seen being graded recently.
  14. Wow, you must mean this one here then: Truly a real tough book to find and already at double condition guide price. Will not be surprised to see this copy here move up quite a bit more before it's all said and done. Looks like somebody managed to get a steal of a deal on the CGC 7.5 highest graded copy for only $1,673 on Heritage back in 2010.
  15. Congrats on the pickup of an early and truly key Fox book and a copy with a front cover here that certainly presents beautifully relative to its assigned grade.
  16. The Billy Wright cgc 8.0 went for 12k about a year and a half ago and that marked the last time anyone got this book at a bargain price. Since then its been a 3-4 times guide book consistently even in very low grade. You probably missed the voldy 1.8 slightly brittle going last weekend on HA for 4.2k... so this result was no surprise. First appearance of Plastic Man and unsexy Quality Phantom Lady... this has for years been a severely undervalued GA key only now getting it’s due. I imagine it’s the terrible cover that’s held it back for so long. Wow, good to hear that the sentiment for Police Comics 1 has turned more positive as of late. Especially since I feel that it has been an much under appreciated book in the grand scheme of things for the longest while. It's hard to beat the origin and first appearance of a strong and long lasting character like Plastic Man by one of the GA greats. And to top it off, you also get the first appearance of Phantom Lady in a much more earlier and conservative version of her costume before Matt baker grabbed the artistic reins and came up with a much sexier and classic risque version.
  17. So in reality the 9.8’s are the highest grade then? Why, you ungrateful little cretin............do you not realize these are the CGC boards and you are only a guest here? And as such, have you not learned that the only thing that matters about a graded book is the big number on the top left hand corner and no attention should be paid to the underlying book itself? Have you never hear the term that you should "Buy the label, and not the book"?
  18. There's always debate about the best strategy for selling a group of books, but what were there, 25 or something MMCs? Seems like a lot to be absorbed in one auction. Well, you better give Fishler a call then and tell him this is definitely not the best way for him to dispose of his near complete Church run of Planet Comics which he has in his upcoming CC Auction in a few weeks from now.
  19. Congrats on your timely pickup. I suspect too many similarly graded copies coming to market in a relatively short period of time would indeed help to being the price down a bit.
  20. Congrats on a super nice pick up here and a Church copy that's definitely not going to be surpassed in terms of condition. These Millie's are really starting to go for a pretty penny now.
  21. What happen to the sale? It's no longer listed on HA or GPA? Well, it didn't managed to fetch $26,400 , but I guess the consignor made the right move since it managed to fetch another $1,200 as it finished up at $4,320 on this go round here.
  22. You must mean like this Police Comics #1 which managed to fetched $9K or more than triple condition guide price: Seems to be substantially higher than where it has been selling for in the recent past. But then again, this copy here seems to present much better than its assigned CGC 5.5 grade from what I can see on the front cover. Unless they are whacking it for the pronounced and heavy dust shadow on the back cover which is supposedly the kind of defect which they did not used to grade as harsh for in the past before.
  23. Any thoughts on this copy here that just sold for $144,000 in the Heritage Auction:
  24. Well, looks like it managed to fetched only one more bid as it ended up at $38,400 by the time it was all said and done.
  25. The book which I am surprised at right now is this one here which must be going at a record price already: Already at $8,400 with the Heritage juice. Not sure if it has much more room to go though as this must be highest price by a long shot that I have ever seen for a copy of the book.
