  1. Good point....how's that a complete grading service? If you are looking for the full complete grading service with the restoration check, then you should be sending it in for the regular service that includes the resto check. Sounds as though you guys are asking for the full regular service and yet only expecting to pay for the discounted raw grading service. Unfortunately, the real world doesn't work like that.
  2. What I'm saying is that the book was a bargain sitting in a 7.5 holder. I thought it would regrade at least an 8.0 upon resubmission. Not quite following your line of thinking here as the book was never ever physically sitting in a 7.5 holder as it was graded and slabbed as a 8.5 copy by both of the grading companies. If you are trying to say that the first sale of the book lines up with what a "lowly" 7.5 graded copy would have normally sold for, and was still seeing money to be made there through a resub to CGC even if the actual grade went down to a 8.0, then that makes more sense.
  3. I believe he made his first movie/TV appearance in this week's episode of Supergirl back on Monday.
  4. It has been a classic cover just like 29 and 31 but not quite as popular as them. Lots of people hunting for it over the years. I believe that 'Tec 35 was the last of the pre-Robin Detectives to join the "classic cover" party and as a result, has seen a substantial increase in both demand and price just over the past 10 years or so.
  5. Too bad they are not sitting in one of my mylars.
  6. Get a hold of Allan and he'll be able to tell you how to complete the form and bring your books down across the border without any hassles at all from Trump's stormtroopers.
  7. Wow, all this talk about the various copies of Detective 29's and it looks like this one on CC has shot out like a bullet from the starting blocks even before the starting gun has gone off: http://scoop.previewsworld.com/Home/4/1/73/1014?ArticleID=190515 It's already sitting out there with 20 bids at $25K with the auction not due to open for bidding until 12PM Eastern Time on Monday February 27th.
  8. +2 And from my personal point of view, the exact reason why AF 15 is by far a much better bet than FF 1 for sure.
  9. I assume this must be the auction listing you are asking about: https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/amazing-fantasy-15-verified-signature-marvel-1962-cbcs-vf-85-off-white-to-white-pages/a/7139-91159.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 This was the book that most board members here stated was clearly an improperly overgraded book by the other company and one that would not hit into the 8's if graded by CGC. Many members felt sorry at the time for the poor uninformed doofus who had picked up the book since he had clearly overpaid for an improperly graded book. I guess not so much anymore now. Actually, the difference in valuation probably had nothing at all to do with who graded the book. It's probably all about the detrimental damage done to the valuation of the book due to Stan Lee's signature. On the first go round, the label clearly identified the fact that Stan had signed the book, while on the second go round, the label conveniently and astutely did not mentioned anything at all about Stan's signature being there. Ah....the Marvel No-Prize non-value award associated with Stan's signature.
  10. Roy; Not exactly sure what you are saying here: 1) Are you trying to say that the book is a tightly graded 7.5 copy and has simply been improperly overgraded by both companies as a 8.5 copy; or 2) Are you saying that the book was a tightly graded 7.5 copy when it was overgraded by the other company as a 8.5 copy, and by some miracle, it is now a 8.5 copy and properly graded as such by CGC.
  11. I would guess much more ... depending on what books/OA he still has and that will be included in this sale. +2 Definitely much more than what Schmell got as his was basically just Marvel SA books. Jon has a complete Marvel SA collection plus a significant GA collection to kill for and then comic related OA on top of that. Is his Marvel SA top grade like Schmell's was ? I would say not but feel free to correct. My guess is the larger portion of the revenue will come from the OA and Gold. Well, I would not expect his Marvel SA to be as top grade as Schmell who as we all know cared much more about the condition of his books, as opposed to the actual books themselves. Definitely not the case with Jon, who was really more into the books themselves and much less focused on condition as seen from Adam's previous post: Of course, it's quite possible that Adam might have been referring more to Jon's GA collection, and in particular books from the early part of the GA when he made that comment. Don't know for sure, but I would suspect that Jon had already completed his Marvel SA collection very early on before he really got into GA. Especially since I never heard a peep out of him about chasing after SA books during his GA quest, just that he already had a complete set of the Marvel SA books. So, it's quite possible that he might have acquire them in the late 70's to late 80's when they were in a complete funk at a time when Marvel SA key books were not moving anywhere at all, except downwards in the price guide. It's also quite possible they might be natural high grade copies due to the relatively lower demand at the time, but most probably not uber HG which Schmell's were maximized to.
  12. Interesting discussion. Good points all around. Though the only person who can tell us the motivation for selling Jon Berk's collection is Jon Berk. The evolution from comic book collector to comic book investor/speculator is certainly upon us, but whether the comic market precipice is behind JB's decision, who knows... Oh, come on, you guys. I find it grammatically impossible for Mitch to have written this. It is totally coherent and follows the rules for the use of the English language which is most definitely not something that Mitch is known for when it comes to his posts.
  13. Take a look at the gorgeous CGC 3.5 graded copy of Batman 1 (this one below does have a small spine split) that just sold on HA and the beautiful 3.5 copy of Detective 1 in the upcoming CC auction: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/batman-1-dc-1940-cgc-vg-35-off-white-pages/a/7158-91008.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 The one thing that all 4 of these books have in common is that they were all graded around the same apparent extreme tight grading time period and they all present much nicer from a visual point of view relative to their assigned CGC grades.
  14. Complete run of Church Mystery Men?!!! I knew he had a bunch but WOW i can't wait to see these all together!! I remember mentioning to him that I was really only interested in the MM 1 to 10 portion of the run and he informed me that was also the only part of the run that he was interested in. But he stated that Geppi and Overstreet were not willing to break apart the Church MM run and were only willing to sell it as a complete intact run (Note: No MM 21 - 23 in the Church run) and that was why he purchased the entire Church run. Looks like it worked out for him in the end though.
  15. I know that he has the complete Church run of the Mystery Men series which he picked up during the Diamond Int'l Galleries opening back in '95. Any idea if he also has the Church Wonderworld's or is that run sort of scattered between various collectors?
  16. It's quite possible that there might be a bit of a spine split there, but who really knows unless you purchase the Grader's Notes. It's also possible that it might be nothing more than just extreme tight grading as there have been a lot of nice GA books graded during this summer of 2016 time period that simply presents absolutely much better than their assigned grade. Take a look at the nice 'Tec 38 in the same auction which was graded on July 14th of 2016 and that book also appears to be undergraded relative to its assigned CGC grade of only 3.0. The serial number for the 'Tec 29 indicates a grade date of August 25, 2016. These are the 2 pre-Robin Detective books that stand out for me in this latest CC auction. Ok, my bad as Detective 38 is technically not a pre-Robin book. Nevertheless, it is still a GA super key that has been relatively underappreciated in the past and just seems to be coming into its own now, and a book that would seem to have a lot of upside potential to it.
  17. I would guess much more ... depending on what books/OA he still has and that will be included in this sale. +2 Definitely much more than what Schmell got as his was basically just Marvel SA books. 18. I thought it was something more like in the neighborhood of $3.6M or thereabouts. Okay, my bad as I was starting to get my collections mixed up there. It was the Billy Wright Collection that sold for $3.5M while the Doug Schmell Collection sold for $3.94M.
  19. Absurd Why....what makes you say this when it's considered to be one of the classic Batman covers of all time and this copy here is one of the highest graded copies to date so far?
  20. Well, here is what I had posted on the AF 15 thread regarding this copy of AF 15: I expect that you will receive your answer in 6 days from now as the current CGC 8.5 graded copy of AF 15 is already sitting at over $131K with the juice included. Guess the consignor of this particular copy did not do so bad after a lot of board members here opined that he had over paid for what was clearly an overgraded copy of this book when he paid $77K for it only a few months in the summer Heritage auction. Looks like the consignor is going to have the last laugh here and not be the doofus that some members thought he was for picking up this supposedly overgraded copy of AF 15: https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/superhero/amazing-fantasy-15-marvel-1962-cgc-vf-85-off-white-to-white-pages/a/7158-91123.s?ic3=ViewItem-Auction-Open-JumpLot-081514 Already at exactly double the price he had to pay for the book only 6 months earlier and we still have the live portion of the auction to go. A definite win for them, especially in light of the extreme negativism on the boards here about this copy on its first go round with Heritage. Probably all of the unfounded extreme negative talk about how the book was clearly overgraded and how it would never be able to hit even into the 8's if graded by CGC, scared off some of the potential bidders and certainly did not help the price of the book when it hit the Heritage auction block the first time.
  21. Is it the shadow cast by the cabinet across the folding curtains? No, that's when he nodded off while finishing the art and for this cover and his inking brush fell onto the artwork.
  22. Maybe they should really slow down a bit and take a look at all of the possible alternatives that will be coming to market soon. Especially in light of the fact that Berk's complete SA Marvel collection, including all of the keys, will be hitting the auction blocks in the not too distant future.
  23. I will say 275 000$ to 300 000$. Makes me wonder what Jon Berk's copy will grade out at, and if it's possible that he might even have more than one HG copy of AF 15 to boot.
  24. Well, that would definitely exclude the 1.8 copy on the CL auction site then. Then the much nicer looking CGC 3.0 graded copy on the CC auction site should be right up your alley then. If not the 'Tec 29, then both the Detective 1 and the 'Tec 38 on CC also looks really nice with decent PQ, relative to their assigned grades. I guess it would really depend on whether those books are in your wheelhouse or not.
  25. Yes, looks like Jon made it to the finish line first before Verzyl and Anderson.
