  1. Maybe it's just temporary and a work in progress for now, but looks like the cuts all came from the Promise Collection books: https://comics.ha.com/c/search-results.zx?N=52+794+793+792+4294939359&Ntk=SI_Titles-Desc&Nty=1&Ntt=promise&limitTo=4294939359&ic=homepage-search-A-K-Y-071316 Looks like it went from some 90 Promise Collection books down to only 22 for now, including the biggies 'Tec 140 & 114 and the Mask 1 for now.
  2. Succumbed to the allure and wanted to be an owner of a top tier copy? Or is this a portent of things to come and a consigner simply trying for a first mover advantage, as per a post from me yesterday:
  3. And then there were a few noted long time boardies here who claimed this Promise Collection was an once in a lifetime opportunity and if we didn't go for it, we would end up paying a lot more money for them when they do come back to market. Of course, I believe they were thinking more in terms of a much longer time frame than just one or two short years.
  4. Well, totally surprised that you forgot this little beauty right here: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/phantom-lady-17-the-promise-collection-pedigree-fox-features-syndicate-1948-cgc-nm-96-pink-pages/a/7244-93123.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 Sold for the exact same $456K as the 'Tec 140 even though some boardies here thought that the CGC 9.4 graded Phantom Lady Collection copy of PL 17 was a superior looking copy, especially considering the spine on this Promise copy here.
  5. So, are you REALLY really trying to convince us here that it's going to sell for more than $456K, because if so, you are going to have to do a better job than this?
  6. Or is it possible that due to the much higher value for Primer 2, submittors are much more willing to submit them in for grading. Especially since the book would still have solid value if it came back graded lower than you had expected? Definitely not so much the case for Primer 1 where you might not even be able to get back the cost of slabbing if it does not hit the grade. \
  7. Well, hopefully you are not on the job at work when you are viewing the boards here.
  8. I guess bidders are still really hard up to get this book as bidding is still on a solid upwards trajectory at a hammer of $2,300 and still rising: https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/the-rifleman-10-dell-1962-cgc-nm-94-off-white-pages/a/40226-82379.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 Then again, being a Schmell book, I am quite sure it started off in soft limpy condition before Dougie got his hands on it to massage and rub it into the rock hard and upright condition that its in now, all in anticipation of the big payload that it's going to shoot off for him when it reaches its climax at the end.
  9. Yes, basic economics in terms of the law of supply and demand always wins out in the long run over short term irrational FOMO.
  10. Well, from the lofty heights of the sunny scenic penthouse suite where I never get invited to and where resides the aforementioned books like the above Batman 1's, More Fun 55, 'Tec 27, etc. we now head down to the darkened dungeon which is much more my bailiwick where I tend to hang out with bottom feeders such as these books here: https://comics.ha.com/itm/platinum-age-1897-1937-/miscellaneous/new-comics-2-dc-1936-cgc-apparent-vg-fn-50-moderate-a-3-off-white-pages/a/122307-13612.s?type=bidnotice-tracked-endofauction https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/humor/the-comics-magazine-2-comics-magazine-1936-condition-vg-/a/122307-13174.s?type=bidnotice-tracked-endofauction https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/miscellaneous/star-comics-5-harry-a-chesler-1937-condition-vg-/a/122307-13709.s?type=bidnotice-endofauction https://comics.ha.com/itm/platinum-age-1897-1937-/miscellaneous/funny-picture-stories-7-comics-magazine-co-centaur-publications-1937-condition-fn-/a/122307-13391.s?type=bidnotice-endofauction Glad to see that there are finally some cracks of long awaited and loving sunlight shining through into the dungeon for these long ago forgotten books after being kept in the dark for so long. Definitely going at a much higher price point now (i.e. $1,680; $2,520; $1,680; and $1,920 respectively), even in raw condition as they are now selling for higher than what lower graded certified copies were selling for a few years ago. Looks like a longtime collector must have been selling off part of their mid to late 30's collection as there were several of these very early rare and truly HTF pre-GA books available in this past weekend's Sunday/Monday Auction. Needless to say, books like these even in low grade don't tend to come along too often as the CGC Population Census Report indicates only single digit copies of these books have been graded and slabbed in Universal condition to date, with almost all of them in low low condition only.
  11. I guess you haven't bother to spend much time in the BA and CA forums then where its said that some buyers are apparently willing to throw in quite a bit of extra dollars for books sporting some of these labels.
  12. If I was the owner of that book, I would most definitely want that name removed right off the CGC label because the first thing that comes to mind when I see that name is possible hidden or undisclosed restoration.
  13. Well, if the Batman 1 in 7.0 or 8.0 is too far down the line or just too blase for the finicky collector here, then there's always this one here: Seeing as how it's a Bob Crestohl copy though, I hope the boys at CGC did a triple check on it for possible restoration or color touch.
  14. The worst part about this whole slabbed book here is that fugly modernistic gimmicky looking label which really doesn't go with the look for a GA book and should drop the bidding down accordingly by a few notches.
  15. Then again, if there was no 8.0 in the same auction, then all of the hype and attention would be on your 7.0 copy to the point that the 8.0 buyers would even be willing to stoop down and go after it thinking it's the best they are going to see in awhile. Now that there's a 8.0 in the same auction, all of the hype and attention will be diverted to that particular copy over the seemingly unwanted stepchild that your 7.0 copy has now become.
  16. Not exactly sure what collection of books you would be referring to here? As time has generally shown us here so far to date, the only collection with a hint of that name in it as far as I am aware of is the "Over Promised and Under Delivered" collection.
  17. By haircut, do you mean just a trim or do you mean a scalping? Seriously though, the owner probably saw the single highest graded 8.5 Universal copy of Mask 2 sell for $118,700 on CL last summer and simply figure that his equivalent graded single highest graded 8.5 Universal copy of Mask 1 should be not only be able to sell for more than its original $102K purchase price, but also to surpass the $118.7K mark for the Mask 2. Will definitely be another one of the many big bellwether books that will be worth watching to gauge the current seeming strength of the GA marketplace relative to the current seeming weakness in the SA, BA, and CA marketplaces.
  18. Is this to be viewed as a negative sign to the impending strength or health of the GA marketplace because the owners want to get ahead of the curve (i.e. be the first ones out the door before there's a log jam) in advance of what they have seen taken place in the SA, BA, and CA marketplaces over the past several months?
  19. All I will say is that if I was the consignor of the Batman 1 7.0 copy and Heritage decides to toss in a CGC 8.0 graded copy into the exact same auction to compete virtually DIRECTLY against my CGC 7.0 graded copy, I would be feeling totally
  20. With the Promise of this coming back to market so soon, will we also be seeing the PL 17 and 'Tec 140 sooner rather than later: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/mask-comics-1-the-promise-collection-pedigree-rural-home-1945-cgc-vf-85-off-white-to-white-pages/p/7339-166072.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515
  21. Well, that's certainly a different approach to take as most collectors generally try to upgrade over time, which is not necessary in your case as you already had relatively high grade copies with your CGC 8.0 copies. Then again, I guess this provides you with the additional funds to acquire some of the other books that you might be missing from completing your pre-Robin 'Tec run here.
  22. Was watching parts of the Heritage Sunday/Monday Auction this weekend and just wondering what most boardies feelings are when it comes to Heritage's raw grading and detection of possible restoration on a book? Especially since it seems that more and more of their books in these weekend auctions are being auctioned off raw as compared to the past. I assume most bidders must think their grading and restoration detection skills are pretty much bang on since I remember results on some of these raw books (eg. New Adventure and More Fun pre-hero DC books) must be in line with CGC since prices were quite high, and if I remember correctly, in some cases, even relatively higher than graded copies that were sold later in their Signature Auctions. Or are these bidders for these raw books "smoking something" and just hoping for the best?
  23. Wow, didn't know that...............were you able to upgrade or are you streamlining your pre-Robin 'Tec collection to only the Batman covers? Hopefully, you are not exiting the pre-Robin 'Tec market completely and also hope that you was able to sell both your copies of 'Tec 30 and 34 for good money.
  24. A bit surprised that @Gotham Kid hasn't yet gotten around to posting a picture of these two pre-Robin 'Tec beauties that's coming up in the next CC Event Auction scheduled to start up next week: https://www.comicconnect.com/item/982260 https://www.comicconnect.com/item/982262 I guess it'll give us a chance to see if this seeming weakness for some of these pre-Robin 'Tec books which has been alluded to by some of the boardies here is actually true or not, although both of these are non-Batman covers which might keep the prices down a bit.
  25. Most likely a lot of them. And to offset this double counting of resubs, for every graded copy of AF 15, how many more raw copies are there still sitting in private collections that have yet to cross a grader's table?
