Thanks.  I am really not a very huge collector per say. I collect a lot of memorabilia for growth potential that I think will do well.

What are your thoughts about if there is currently any difference between the 2 now and in the future?

    Thanks William

From what I've observed from buying and selling the last couple of years the newsstand vs direct price variance is growing somewhat rapidly. If I had to guess I'd say this will probably continue but of course idk for sure.

  2. Ahh man I wish I stumbled on this thread earlier. I've been pressing my own books for over a year now and have been getting better and better results but my latest submission had 3 books with canvassing in the grader notes. After reading this it seems like everything I've added that has made the pressing more effective has also increased the chances of this defect. The 3 books still pulled 9.2s which makes them better then break even but I'm assuming they were probably atleast 9.6s without the canvassing which kinda sucks. I've ordered srp sheets to avoid this in the future.

Bought a CGC magazine from an e Bay seller who charges $22 for shipping and claims he packs very securely.

Book arrived this morning at my work in it's in a Medium Flat Rate box.

Setting aside the fact that he's gouging on shipping, I've always found the Medium Flat Rate box a tight fit for regular size CGC comic books.  Box is really light too.  Really looking forward to opening this up when I get home to see what's inside.  :canofworms:

I always use the priority boxes for slabs, usually the one that's about the same size as the medium flat rate one. I've never had anyone complain in fact I've often got kudos for my packing Granted I do have a source of free high quality bubble wrap through work that makes it nice and snug. Oh you said magazine I don't believe I've ever shipped one of those, that may be too tight idk.

coins are so much more liquid to sell than comic books which makes them much more desirable to collect

take your coin collection to a dealer right now and he will buy every single coin you have , there will be zero instances of an individual coin you paid $5.00 for being worth only a dime as it is with comic books

take your comic collection to a dealer right now and he will likely only be interested in the keys and even at that he will likely offer only 60% of the value tops , he will not even be interested in going thru runs of comics and offering prices for them individually - he will only offer a bundle price and that will likely be 10 cents on the dollar

when selling your coin collection to a dealer there will be zero instances of part of your collection being worth only 10 cents on the dollar as it is with comics

Ahh man having spent about 15 years or so messing around with coins I'll tell you coin dealers will definitely try to rip you off. If you show up at a coin shop with a coin collection and not alot of knowledge you would be lucky if the offer is more then 10% of the value. There's a big difference between collector coins and bullion coins/bars and such, the bullion coins will go up and down based on the metal price but collector coins could easily tank if the base of collectors goes down.
