After years of selling at Ebay i see a clear pattern : most of problems are from modern book buyers

    - They think NM is = 9.8 so even if you clearly describe your book as a 9.4 they will not be happy if they don´t get a 9.8

    - They make impulsive purchases , because some stupid youtuber made a top 10 list, so expect non payments

    - If they purchase from you the flavor of the week lets say for $40 and next week its a $20 or less book , they will be angry at you and make everything to return it

    - They are extremly impatient because they want their book to be graded to resell or to be signed in some stupid con but they don´t want to pay the cost for an express shipping service

The less i sell modern books the more happy i am

I completely agree. I've been on eBay since 2004. The majority of the issues I've had, had been with buyers of Copper age and Modern Age. I only had one issue when it came to selling Golden Age, and it was my fault. There was a missing centerfold. I forgot to count the pages before I listed it on eBay. I promptly refunded the buyer.

Ouch... So I do not believe that AFA would grade a figure as an 80 with a broken O-Ring so one can only assume that the O-Ring snapped post grading.  Costly break.

This is why I say, do not buy graded MOC GI Joes or vehicles.

I am curious to see how the auction ends though especially as it is offered side by side with an in tact sample graded at AFA 85.   Yes I know that the 85 would command more.  However there is a much wider than usual disparity between the two due to the broken o-ring.

That's actually graded by CAS and not AFA. But I agree with you about the carded figures.

Here's a message I received through eBay yesterday.  I suppose this happens occasionally, buyers trying to circumvent the system by offering to purchase items outside of eBay.  It feels kind of skeezy, not to mention risky.  Any kind of buyer/seller protection goes out the window.  I'm trying to decide if it's block-worthy, or if I should just ignore it and move on.  Thoughts?

Also, can someone interpret the "Friday the thirteenth" part for me?

p.s.  The user has been on eBay for over 10 years and has a feedback rating in the hundreds.

No 13.5% in ebay fees. Friday = 5, 13 = 13. You flip the 5 to the back of the 13, it becomes 135. Which means you don't have to pay the 13.5% in ebay fees. If you were to sell to him off of ebay.

$550 worth it?  seems just a bit steep.

Yeah, it's definitely worth it. I would love to do it. But the problem is, how long will it take? I read in the Hugh Jackman thread that people have been waiting 10 years for the Robert Downy Jr. signing, and 4 years for the Ryan Reynolds signing. Who knows if it'll ever happen. That's a lot of money and too much risk. I'm gonna pass on this......:(

yetr_45   This buyer bid my item up to $500.  It ended yesterday.  Today I received this message from him.  Zero feedback and located in Mexico so I was afraid something like this would happen.

I had somewhat of a similar incident 6 weeks ago. The book that he wanted was eventually sold to another buyer, who paid immediately. It's a requirement for all of my Buy-It-Now items.

@taro90 How did you send it - Priority or MM?

Priority Mail with insurance. I would never send comics Media Mail. Only Priority or First Class, and First Class if it's a raw book of a certain value.

Total USPS failure. They never pay.
But that is wrong anyways. You collect the insurance not the buyer. USPS should have sent the buyer to you, not respond to his request.

The purchaser of the insurance holds the receipt and has the claim.

I also called USPS customer service regarding this situation, and they said the same thing to me. There cannot be any claims of insurance for a package that was not delivered. When the tracking number showed the package was delivered.

I am not sure what happened, it may be a scam. But taking everyone at their word, in this situation you are correct the USPS is at fault.

But the carrier is an extension of the seller as a third party. The buyer assumes responsibility when they possess the item not before. Non- performance by the third party lies squarely on the seller. That’s why you buy insurance, whether that cost is passed on makes no difference, it behoves the seller to insure for delivery. It is no different than if you buy a big screen TV from a big box retailer and they employ a third party warehouse that drives a fork lift through the screen. That is on the seller.

I did purchased insurance on the book for the full amount. I told the buyer to get a refund from USPS for non-delivery. The buyer said, USPS refused. Because the tracking number showed the book was delivered.

If the tracking shows as delivered, eBay should cover you under Seller Protection. Even if they choose to believe the buyer and compensate him.

Just be sure to comply with any requests made by eBay. Provide complete and verifiable responses. Keep thorough records of all related activities and conversations. Take screenshots in addition to relying on eBay's archive system.

Yes, I did take screenshot of all of the conversations. I still have the receipt from the post office too. First time I'm dealing with this on ebay. Never had a lost package, but it's probably not lost. I guess there's a first time for everything......:frustrated:

Sold a comic to this new buyer on the ebay. Paid and the book was delivered on July, 6th at 3:26PM at his residence. He opens a "Item not received" today. The situation hasn't been resolved yet. But he should definitely be blocked. The worst part about this is my funds are now on hold. :pullhair:
