1st print - 7 1/2" to 7 9/16"
2nd print - 7 9/16" to 7 3/4"
3rd print - 7 3/8"
Can they be measured within less than 1/16 in tolerance through a slab?

Just checked out mine YES !!! I'm safe
Dont know about the dude who spent 24K on his copy
Yeesh... I went and checked the cover of mine right away as well... *whew*
How did you go about making sure it's not a 2nd print?
-
#1 is the most damaging to CGC as that would indicate they missed many clear signs of a third printing. I personally hope that's not the case...
They can get past it.
1: Announce that the issue exists, and if possible how many TMNT 1 "first prints" we're affected.
2: Identify the cause of the problem and explain how CGC will prevent it in the future.
3: Announce a resolution for existing TMNT 1 copies, e.g. offer to reinspect existing first prints and reimburse people who purchased mislabeled copies.
Doodoo happens. It's how you deal with it that matters.

Well I posted a question in the "Ask CGC" section with the hopes they will address it. It's subject to moderation so we'll see if it makes the light of day.
Hopefully they'll provide some of re-verification of existing 1st prints, and compensation for those who had mislabeled ones.

OK, so now I can fairly easily identify a 3rd printing while slabbed.
How about 2nd print? If I buy a CGC graded copy is it pretty much a prayer at this point that it's not a mislabeled 2nd print?
-
Nice comics, and you seriously need to clean those fingernails.
-
So what's the final verdict on this? Are those for sure misidentified 3rd prints?
I hope someone from CGC can weigh in on this, because I'm currently shopping for a 1st print and I'm putting a lot of trust in their slab.

Here's a question. If the "3rd Print" was inadvertently left off the label, if you call in the serial number will it come up as a 3rd print in their database?
-
Oh boy it just got good in here Any time a lawyer word like "libel" gets used in a thread it typically gets epic.
Or in a PM.
Don't ask.

Hello,
In the TMNT 1 thread another boardie said that this Ebay sale is actually a third print, and that he could tell by the color.
I was wondering if any knowledgeable turtle heads could spell out how to tell the differences between all of the different printings. In the auction above I can't see a difference in the color between 1st and 3rd print.
Is there a way to tell just by the cover the difference between 1st, 2nd and 3rd? Are there ways people try to alter later printings to try to pass them off as first prints?
Pictures would be great, but any useful information would be greatly appreciated.

I was fully expecting at somepoint for them to hear a gun shot, then discover Carl blasted the guy. I think and hope they're not going to kill off Shane. He just adds way too much to the show to get rid of him.

I'm going to shamelessly spam here. If anyone has a CGC copy of TMNT 1 with WHITE pages that you're willing to sell, please send me a PM. I'm willing to pay a fair price.
Prefer 8.5-9.0
Willing to go as high as 9.4

I just called and checked the notes on it.
Rusty staples

Hello all,
I'm currently looking for an X-Men 1 somewhere in the 3.5 - 4.0 range. What I'm looking for is OW or better pages, vibrant (as possible) colors and the lack of chipping. But in grades I'm looking for I'm wondering how realistic my expectations should be.
Would you say this is average, or above average for the grade?
The colors seem a bit faded, but really no worse than what's typical for the grade. There is no outright chipping, but it looks like there's a small bit of pre-chipping. There is heavy wear on all four corners, and I'm not sure what to make of that charcoal looking stain on the mid-spine area. Do the staples look rusted to you?
Back cover scan on the auction would be good too. Been many times where the front looks great but the back was trashed
It's there. If you scroll down there's some big pictures up.

That's right! I forgot about that video! It WAS a TMNT #1 that someone submitted and then claimed PGX had swapped for a reprint.
video link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZJ4VwFHSp4
But seriously, even after doing a ton of research into the different fakes out there, I still bought a CGC copy when I bought mine just to be safe.
OMG I would be on a plane kicking their door open!
-
If you go with the TMNT, buy already graded to be safe. Or from a trusted dealer. Lots of counterfeits out there. (thumbs u
Most definitely! I'll make sure I buy one that's PGX graded.
Right after I'm done pouring hotsauce in my eye.

Hi, guys. I'm "window shopping" right now for my next major purchase.
I'm looking at either X-men 1 or Ninja Turtles 1 first print. Both were childhood fantasy comics, and TMNT 1 is the one that got away.
For the TMNT I'd probably be looking for somewhere in the 8.5 range. If any of you have any helpful advice I greatly appreciate it.
-
I only speculate with 3 comics MAX. I bought 3 copies of Ultimate Fallout 4, 2 copies of Vault 1, a copy of Vault 3 NYCC limited edition, and a few others.
F*** buying a huge stack of a comic hoping it does something.

Lloyd those sketches are fantastic!

I'm going to be shopping for a low grade X-Men 1 soon, something in the 3.5 range. Any advice? Any particulars about this particular comic I should know about?
-
If any of you have that Spider-man 678 Venom variant I'm seriously considering buying one. I'll probably get hit later with a price drop at some point but I freaking love that cover!

I bought the 2nd print of JLA 1 a while back for $15. I think it has 9.8 potential. I checked GPA just for the heck of it....

Ninja Turtles - Differences Between Printings?
in Copper Age Comic Books

Are you saying you can tell the difference between a first and second print from the cover?
