  1. Um...

This is the copy that sold for $23k in August. :o

This copy is in the registry and is owned by "vrecaro."

    I'm 2nd to a possible 3rd print!? :tonofbricks:

And to reiterate...the size thing doesn't matter unless you're talking about differentiating a 3rd print from a 1st or 2nd but as discussed, a 3rd print has a more obvious tell. In other words, don't spend too much time measuring books. Spend more time posting your books so we can see if there's a way to tell a 1st from a 2nd from the cover.

Are you saying you can tell the difference between a first and second print from the cover?

  2. #1 is the most damaging to CGC as that would indicate they missed many clear signs of a third printing. I personally hope that's not the case...

    They can get past it.

1: Announce that the issue exists, and if possible how many TMNT 1 "first prints" we're affected.

2: Identify the cause of the problem and explain how CGC will prevent it in the future.

3: Announce a resolution for existing TMNT 1 copies, e.g. offer to reinspect existing first prints and reimburse people who purchased mislabeled copies.

Doodoo happens. It's how you deal with it that matters.

  3. Hello,

In the TMNT 1 thread another boardie said that this Ebay sale is actually a third print, and that he could tell by the color.

I was wondering if any knowledgeable turtle heads could spell out how to tell the differences between all of the different printings. In the auction above I can't see a difference in the color between 1st and 3rd print.

Is there a way to tell just by the cover the difference between 1st, 2nd and 3rd? Are there ways people try to alter later printings to try to pass them off as first prints?

Pictures would be great, but any useful information would be greatly appreciated.

  4. I'm going to shamelessly spam here. If anyone has a CGC copy of TMNT 1 with WHITE pages that you're willing to sell, please send me a PM. I'm willing to pay a fair price.

    Prefer 8.5-9.0

Willing to go as high as 9.4

  5. Hello all,

I'm currently looking for an X-Men 1 somewhere in the 3.5 - 4.0 range. What I'm looking for is OW or better pages, vibrant (as possible) colors and the lack of chipping. But in grades I'm looking for I'm wondering how realistic my expectations should be.

Would you say this is average, or above average for the grade?

The colors seem a bit faded, but really no worse than what's typical for the grade. There is no outright chipping, but it looks like there's a small bit of pre-chipping. There is heavy wear on all four corners, and I'm not sure what to make of that charcoal looking stain on the mid-spine area. Do the staples look rusted to you?

Back cover scan on the auction would be good too. Been many times where the front looks great but the back was trashed

It's there. If you scroll down there's some big pictures up.

  7. If you go with the TMNT, buy already graded to be safe. Or from a trusted dealer. Lots of counterfeits out there. (thumbs u

Most definitely! I'll make sure I buy one that's PGX graded.

Right after I'm done pouring hotsauce in my eye.

  8. Hi, guys. I'm "window shopping" right now for my next major purchase.

I'm looking at either X-men 1 or Ninja Turtles 1 first print. Both were childhood fantasy comics, and TMNT 1 is the one that got away.

For the TMNT I'd probably be looking for somewhere in the 8.5 range. If any of you have any helpful advice I greatly appreciate it.

  9. I bought the 2nd print of JLA 1 a while back for $15. I think it has 9.8 potential. I checked GPA just for the heck of it....
