  1. The story goes that the owner of Quality Comics cut up Jack Cole's Plastic Man are to prevent others from reprinting it. Seemed an odd thing to do since that thought implies that there was a market for reprints and one would assume a good business man would want that market. Never the less, it was all destroyed.
  2. Added Anthony Isaza's Split Face collection has now joined the list. The premise is to show a two characters in one bust. Some interesting pairings. Check it out!
  3. @grapeape, I thought you would at least be wearing purple. I'm so disappointed. Have fun. Don't buy more than you can carry!
  4. I was in LA on business during SDCC a number of year ago and heard about the dinner. I drove down for it got there early enough to wander around bit near the convention center as the artists were leaving and got to see some friends. Then walked to the dinner a saw a few I knew and met more that I had not met before including Brian. I thought it was well worth the drive (and the stop going on I5 by Customs and Immigration).
  5. I wondered if anyone would remember those stories.
  6. Let me know what you think about it. I find themed collections to be really interesting.
  7. I suspect you are not alone in this approach.
  8. I'll expand on my "yep." My collection is broad - deliberately so. I like lots of artists/character combos and story lines, but once I get an example, I'm pretty well done and drop out of the bidding pool. I might "upgrade," but it doesn't happen often. I suspect I'm not the only one.
  9. Done. Jason's Quest is now immortalized in electrons here: The Themed Art Collections Thread - 2023 Edition.
  10. Added Jason D'Ambrosio's - Jason's Quest. He's building a collection of art from every artist that worked on his favorite series. Wow!
  11. I can no longer edit the list. The new thread is The Themed Art Collections Thread - 2023 Edition.
  12. Jay, do you have the art in a CAF gallery? I'd like to add it to "The Themed Comic Art Thread." It's a terrific example of a theme.
  13. You can get an all-in-one scanner/printer/fax for less than $250. I use an Epson WF-7710 that cost me $180 + tax on sale at Office Depot.
  14. Yep, it’s a tough nut and there aren’t a lot of data points.
  15. @Bronty suggested that the range could be from 3% to 20% with perhaps 5% being a median. Any more input?
  16. I'm pondering adding a discussion of pricing preliminary artwork. Does anyone have thoughts on the topic?
  17. I haven't added pre-lim pricing to my Pricing Comic Art thread. Does 3% really seem like a good metric? I bought the prelims for some of my commissions after the death of the artist for about 20%. Click image to embiggen. I wonder if the % varies with artist, type (cover, panel page), material? Thoughts? Cardy Bat Lash Giordano JLA
  18. Thanks. Is this it? 960 Vine St, Oceanside, CA 92054
  19. I have one of Fred transformed into Santa Claus; almost the same thing.
  20. @Aahz, thanks for the tip. I reached out to Bill and got her information. Wow on her website and resume. I've adjusted my write-up to include her (Alexandra vonHawk).
  21. Here's my standard reply. In the many threads on paper conservation, the names that recur the most were: Robert Dennis Gordon Christman Tracey Heft - Eclipse Paper I've also had one recommendation for each of these: Paper, Paintings and more Alexandra vonHawk, Fine Arts Conservator www.vonhawklabs.com alexandra@vonhawklabs.com +1.352.669.7776 She has an amazing on-line resume. Paper: Jonathan Derow - vetted for works on paper - http://www.jdconservation.com/ James Pascoe - https://www.jamespascoe.net/ Mark F McDermott - https://www.EarthshineStudios.com Andrea Pitsch - apnyc@rcn.com Amanda H. Malkin - https://www.paperlovesconservation.com Paintings: Jill Pratzon - amazing for works on board and canvas. HIGHLY recommended. - http://www.jillpratzon.com/ I would add that most major museums know of paper conservators. You might want to contact someone at a local museum and see if there is a conservator close to you.
  22. In the thread Themed Art Collections, you will find a section on people who are re-assembling books. That's a task that I find both daunting and amazing.
  23. Added two themed collections from Jimmy Deng - Hands and pages by different artists featuring Wolverine. And started a thread with a post that I can edit.
