LOVE IT! looks like you guys had a lot of fun!
It was quite nice. Richard is a good host.

I think it's quite nice. It would be even nicer if when I hold my cursor over a thumbnail a larger image would appear. Saves the time of clicking and waiting for a new page.

I think that Ditko Creeper page is achievable. Especially if you're looking for an interior page. It would be a cool pickup
Yes, you are probably right and I'd be very happy with an interior with the Creeper on it.

Being in the NYC area back in the day was a big advantage.
I guess I don't feel too left out because there is so much new stuff that I enjoy.
That said, I'd love to acquire some of these older pages, but I don't see it happening for the majority of them.
- Swan/Klein Superman or LSH page
- Shuster Superman
- Kirby Thor or New Gods page
- Marshall Rogers Detective (Batman) page from his wonderful run with Steve Englehart and Terry Austin
- Sprang Batman
- Everett Sub-Mariner page
- Mayer Scribbly page (if there are any)
- Steve Ditko Creeper
On the possible horizon are:
- Swanderson Superman page
- Aparo B&B page (art and letters by Jim)

Interesting idea. I'll suggest it.

I started in 2005 as the hockey stick curve of prices started to turn upwards. Too slow off the starting line.
OTOH, I still read comics and there are lots and lots of artists whose work I enjoy. Their art isn't as cheap as art was in the 70s and 80s, but it's generally reasonably affordable. So, I buy a lot of newish work and not much old stuff.

A friend of mine is looking for the current owner of a recently auctioned page. If you happen to know the owner, would you let me know so I can pass it on?
-
My point is that a recreation can have value long after the sale, but it does depend on the artist and the book. SS #4 is among the best covers ever and the Adventure covers feature large numbers of Legionnaires by perhaps the most popular Legion artist.
It takes a special combination to retain or increase in value.

It looks like there are 4 sales but "only" 3 different pieces. One is signed on the back. One is signed on the art in the bottom right. Another is signed in the margin in the bottom right, it looks like that was auctioned twice.
I agree.

In all honesty, it depends on a lot of variables. I've seen about half a dozen, or more, Silver Surfer 4 cover re-creations by John Buscema floating round the internets. It's pretty obvious he light boxes most of it, and only varies the cosmic starfield background a bit. How valuable is a lightboxed re-creation, even by the original artist? It all depends on supply and demand.
FWIW, there are four sales of a SS #4 recreation by John Buscema in Heritage's archive.

If it was a popular character that he originated or substantively changed, I'd say yes.
In this case, I'd say no since he didn't (re)define/create Conan. -

Curt Swan, a favorite of mine, did a number of cover recreations that have been resold on Heritage. They all went for four figures and some are much higher than Curt would have charged at the time.
Adventure 333 - $3883.75 (I was the underbidder, Gary Land won it and you can see it in his CAF)
Adventure 360 - $2760 in 2018, $2390 in 2012Adventure 312 - $1495 in 2002
There are other recreations "out there" by Richard () Sprang that have sold for a lot of money over the years.

Alex,
Before I go on, I think you got a bargain on your piece. You have almost 30 characters, plus background/foreground objects, plus a color version, all pulled together into a unified image that is cleverly done by a good artist. I think that is easily worth $3,700.
Bottom line, Alex, you did well and your money was well spent, IMO
But no, I don't see a justification for spending $15,000 for a commission by Lee (even though his work is excellent).
I should have pointed out that I got a friends and family discount. Asking was $5K. My main point is that commissions often lose a significant portion of their purchase price as soon as they are complete.
As to “justification for ... Jim Lee,” you provided it when you wrote “when a person really wants something, there is no such thing as overpaying.” That’s reality. It’s seldom about the image itself. It’s the total experience.

All of my covers can be seen here. The Descriptions are generally worth reading.

I don't own the art, but I think these two are interesting. Click to get a bigger image.

What's the advantage of this over camscanner?
Well, CamScanner for Android has had some security issues. I haven't used the MS Lens product yet though I did download it to try it.

Art Recreated by Original Artist

Good point. If the artist is uncomfortable with the lettering part, skip it. You can have it done by a pro later if you wish.
