I for one will never criticize how much others spend on commissions.
I spent $3700, my largest purchase ever, for a drawing (and print) by an artist that has little printed work though he does have a large fan base and a long running web comic.
Even I think it was a little crazy, but I really, really like it. I know that it is worth pennies on the dollar, but I don't care.I present L'il Legion by Yale Stewart of JL8 fame. There's no doubt that it's a boondoggle; I'll never recover the cost, but it suits me.
My point is, "Tastes and financial circumstances vary." We will never find unanimity on commissions and their prices.

New Art Day
Several new pieces of art.
Castle Waiting Book 2, Chapter 8 Page 199 by Linda Medley (pages numbered by Comixology)Castle Waiting Book 2, Chapter 8 Page 188-189 by Linda Medley (pages numbered by Comixology)Notes:- I don’t own any of the LSH cover art (sadly).
- I’m willing to sell the Castle Waiting Art since they are “extra” pages from the Chapter.

Really cool. Don’t recall seeing panels arranged that way. Couldn’t resist picking this up off the Bay for Daisy Mae and the title character, L’il Abner Yokum for under $200.
FWIW, applications like CamScanner for you smartphone will make these photographs "square." CamScanner for Android has had security issues, but there are others of a similar nature.

100% correct. But the alternative is digital on a screen...NO THANK YOU.
I'm sticking with physical objects
Me, too. The exception for me is what I call "airplane fodder." The stuff I read on planes and don't want to physically carry or keep forever.

I’ve talked about how much I cut my collection back, and how rigidly I try and control and curate it.
The knock on effect to that, is that there is a LOT of art that I greatly enjoy seeing, but just physically, mentally or financially can never own and/or manage. My outlet for this has been art books. I have a room full of them. I really love a great art book day. Is it as much fun as a new original art day? Honestly sometimes it can be. And more importantly, it is a brilliant solution to many issues. The only one it doesn’t solve is space. Boy those books sure do add up quick.
Books are a menace! Art books, comic history books, biographies, reprints, etc. A space eating menace!

Post went on to have a solid career with cartoon strips and then some "kid" licenses later in life but I sure wish this had a longer run. Great fun and adventure, no clue why it didn't catch fire? Wish he would have stayed with DC a while longer.
Far to short a run indeed. It was a terrific story and I loved the art.

They were invisible for years, but of late, I think I've seen pages from most of the issues including Showcase. Loved that book. One of my regrets is that when I started collecting, I didn't reach out to Howie Post for an Anthro commission. Very sad when it was canceled.
I have one page. Click to see a bigger image.- 707comics, Blastaar and ADAMANTIUM

Right now they're going for too much, if you just want "an example" as opposed to a certain specific storyline strip or popular representative gag.
Give it a few years, they'll be $150-250 each not $1,000 -and you'll still have your pick from plenty of dates, eras and gags.

That's my expectation. I'm not paying a ton for one.

Makes sense. I'd like to get one from August 6th for my wife as a gift. It's her birthday and she was a giant Garfield fan when we married and for many years after.

Mine is a Krazy Kat Sunday from 1922, by George Herriman:
Showoff!
(It's wonderful. thanks for sharing, and, yes, I'm jealous! ) -
I seem to have a new sub-theme - the process of creating a cover. Earlier, I put together the Severin pre-lim, Kirby pencils, Giacoia inks, and published cover for a Skull the Slayer issue that a number of people have enjoyed.
Today, I posted a Curt Swan Adventure cover and the Infantino pre-lim, Cardy finished piece, and cover of LSH #1 which reprinted the same story. The new cover was much more dynamic.
Anyone have anything similar to share?
BTW, I don't own any of the art.- John E. and SquareChaos

If I have a choice, I'll choose a scene over a bust or full figure every time. I want them doing something even if it's as silly as my Arm Wrestling collection that you can see here. (You really should look.)

At the risk of pushing this thread to a feeble pitch, I'll try again, because I'm nothing if not stubborn. It only gets more eclectic from here, so I expected the responses to noticeably decline.
This is Wally Wood, probably from some late 50s or early 60s science fiction pulp or digest. I want to know so I can read the story. It looks like a fun story.
Did you ask J. David Spurlock?

So, like a lot of you, I've accumulated some art over the past four decades of collecting that I've not been able to find in print. It seems like as good a time as any to start a thread and geeksource these questions to the collective hivemind that is dis place.
Since I'm already here, I'll go first... This is by Trevor Von Eeden, but I don't know if it's a commission, pin-up or what. It's unusual if it's a commission, because Batman is not the central figure in the piece. It's about 13x18, mixed media. Has anybody ever seen this in print?
Have you asked Trevor?

Didn’t work out with Metropolis although they were fantastically nice. Said I was welcome to come check out their collection of stuff in their office...but in order to really look through stuff for purchase they’d either need me to provide a list of a few specific pieces I’d want to see or 24-48 hours..both of which are 100 percent reasonable. Like I said it was awfully nice to even offer to let me come bother them and see the stuff they’ve got hanging up. I didn’t want to be a pest though so I told them that I’d just try to schedule something further in advance my next trip.
You should have stopped by. It's well worth the visit and they don't mind visitors. I had a great time on my visit.

I've done the research and posted it on the internet!
Check it out here: Themed Art Galleries on Comic Art Community.
I need to update it. If you'd like me to add you and your themes, PM me here.
I was wondering if anyone checked out my post and had any thoughts.

So how unusual are Marvel Character appearances in DC comics?
This is my first Leifeld - met Rob at a comic con earlier this year, nice guy, and realized I didn't have any of his art so snagged this one - then noticed, hey it is a DC book with Peter Parker in it!
I'm not sure, but Clark Kent has appeared in the Marvel Universe more than once. Here's a blog about it.
Let's see your cool JSA Justice Society and related art

How about this DPS from Justice Society of America 11 pg 4-5 featuring the JSA, the JLA, and the Kingdom Come Superman by Dale Eaglesham (p) and Ruy José (i)?
Of course, this lacks that original JSA member the Red Tornado. So here are two of her:
From the pen and markers of Franco, we have a pretty traditional RT:
:
From the pen of Liam Sharp, we have a very non-traditional RT:
So, you think Ma wasn't a member? Well, here's proof that she was pages 4 and 31 from All Star Comics #3:
I will also offer up Mart Nodell's GL.
