It's been so long since I commissioned something, I forgot to post this here
My wonderful wife, Kathy, bought me a simple spectacular 35th wedding anniversary present. It took a while to create, but Yale Stewart of the JL8 webcomic nailed it.This piece is a JL8-style version of the Silver Age Legion of Super-Heroes, my favorite comic team. If you click the link and read the description, you'll learn who is who and what's going on.Click the image to embiggen -

this tall beautiful woman with him. As a 15 year old it was very impressive.
As a 61 year old man, a tall beautiful woman is still impressive.

Could be, we weren't there very long.

Some were. Many were not. None of the Simonson's were.

When I was there during SDCC 2017, they had a nice selection of Walt Simonson, Jack Kirby, and Dave Stevens pieces. It was worth a visit then.
You can see pictures on my Facebook Page review of our SDCC visit. Enjoy. -
It really does depend on the writer/artist/book, e.g., Extremity is not a slowly paced story and Daniel Warren Johnson is doing excellent work.

So happy for you, Roger. I'd love a Rima page, but as you say, it's not likely.

Speaking of these editions - does anyone have contact info for Scott Dunbier?
I spoke to him at SDCC two years ago, and I have some art for an edition he said he was planning (that I would LOVE to see happen just to see all of a certain book collected!), but I've tried contacting him though IDW and his account here, and no responce from either...
Thanks!
He's on Facebook and is fairly active.

The only Krenkel art that I own is printed inside some old books, but man his stuff is wonderful.

My vote totals were amazing especially considering how little I paid for art this year; my two biggest vote getters were both $250.
All five pieces got a vote - that's a record for me.
Two pieces made the 10 ten in their category - never had one in the top ten before.
Lots of fun looking at everyone's art.
Thanks Bill and Brian!

I'd like to preface this with that my relationship with Coollines Art has been only through e-mail and while we've never struck a deal they have always been prompt and polite.
That said, they do things differently than I would and one of those is "restoration" of their art. One example is Curt Swan's cover for Superman Annual #7.
This Curt Swan piece was sold on Heritage in 2007 -
As I understand it, the Heritage buyer sold/traded it to the Donneleys.
They now show it on their site as:
A conversation on the Curt Swan FB fan page led to an e-mail conversation with Steve.
Steve told me in that note that:
So, they restored the cover to its original state by re-creating stats.
An interesting point was made on the Swan FB page by Ray Cuthbert about Steve's assumption:
While I would not have mounted "replacement stats" on the original Swan piece, I might have done it on an overlay.
There are several takeaways here:
1) People do try to "restore" art and Coollines is one place that does.
2) Proper restoration is hard.
3) Be an informed buyer
PS. If you are interested in the Swan FB Fan Page, let me know.
Updated the image and link to the Coollines site for the "cover."

Yep, it's SOP for the DBs. Here's an example:
-
In addition to the point you made, I believe that Gray's work is also underappreciated because he never had a long run on a popular title / character. The work is all really good, but it doesn't tug at the nostalgia rope for most.

I think one compromise would be to have the option of "turning off" sold items, as I believe Alex is suggesting. I'll make a note of that for the next site update.
Yep. I wish everyone that kept sold stuff on the site (something I like) had this option. I'd like the sold pieces even more if the price were retained.

$9K seems really high to me. I do like it though.
-
If one leaves sold items up, please add a pick to remove it from the viewing of the page. That would help a lot.

What about ones done by an artist at home (but not commissioned by anyone) and brought to the show (so liked the 3 or 4 single character Thanos or Captain Marvel pieces that Jim Starlin brings to a show.)
I'd put it under the "Published/Unpublished Other" category.
Why? Well, commissions (and even convention sketches) have an element of risk that is not present in pre-drawn pieces. That is, with commissions/sketches, you generally pre-pay and get what you get even if you don't like it. That risk is removed for pre-drawn pieces.Make sense?

The pirate ship is absolutely incredible, got my vote. I almost entered an unpublished Sam Kieth sketch. Not a commission or convention thing. Just a gift that he sent. Then I forgot about it and the time to enter passed.
Thanks. I generally don't buy a lot of art from the same artist. However, I have three pieces from Jeremy and if I won the lottery, I'd buy a page from the book. That's a lot of art from one artist by my standards.
Here's the links to the other pieces if you are interested:The battle with the crab was actually Jeremy's first commission and I recently acquired it from that commissioner, Rob Stolzer. There are two letters of provenance in the Additional Images: one from Jeremy to Rob and one from Rob to me.

I'm not particularly impressed with the covers, but I'd say the 1st and 2nd printings of 608.
I should probably admit that I'm not a huge fan of Jim's artwork or any of the main Image guys; it's just not my style. Therefore, my votes are probably invalid.
Oddly enough, I did enjoy his Legion story in the ICONS book; bought the book for that story in fact.
Yep, I prefer his Legion work over his Batman, Superman, and X-Men work though I own most or all of all three.
