  1. In my never ending question to destroy my daughter’s inheritance, I have posted three new purchases. None will run to the top of the most viewed lists, but I like them and the artists. Charles Paul Wilson brings us The Stuff of Legends, Volume IV, Part 5, Page 16. I love the expressions on Percy and the Boogyman. Faith Erin Hicks presents The Adventures of Superhero Girl Page 17. This is one seriously clever book. You should read it. You will smile. > Ryan Fisher wrote and drew his Kickstarter book Torchlight Lullaby. I picked up a copy at ECCC and he put Winchell in as a remarque. Beautiful book and art. A good story, too.
  2. I own exactly one piece of Manga style art. It was something of an accident. Colleen Doran drew Barry Lyga's story Mangaman. As a promotion, you could enter a drawing to get a copy signed by Barry and Colleen. I entered though I didn't expect to win. I won. I read the book and I enjoyed it more than I expected. Not long after, one of the key pages to the story was placed at auction by Colleen. I entered a bid though I didn't expect to win. I won. So, I now own an autographed copy of the book for nothing and a page of the art for next to nothing. Not bad. .
  3. You have a wonderful ability, Kav.
  4. No way that's one of the original 50. Here's mine. I think you can see the difference in quality. Besides, if you have that, where's the rest of the stuff that goes with it? There are a number of real ones on the CAF: Fabio C Comic Book Gallery Eric Belanger Jeff Singh Myron Tay
  5. Thanks! I tend to buy art that is off the beaten track. It's nice to know that someone else find it attractive. Of course, it's nice to be able to buy something that I like without paying an arm and a leg or selling child.
  6. In my continuing efforts to deny my children an inheritance, I acquired this Katy Keene piece done by Bill Woggon (pencils) and Cassie Bill (inks). She reminds me of their mom. Check it out.
  7. I wish there was a standing ovation symbol!
  8. Congrats. That's quite a haul. I was hoping you'd score some Golden pages, but the others will do.
  9. I do think pre-lims and such are worth agreeing to, but a penalty for being late may just cause it to be later. Perhaps, a bonus for being early?
  10. Here are the instructions, Jason. It's easy.
  11. That is right on target. ... Personally, I do like if not love commissions, as part of my pursuit to obtain custom artwork made for me personally, as well as the connection with the artist. I'm less interested in buying someone else's commission regardless of rendering quality, at that point I'd pass and either commission my own or buy something published, but that's just my personal preference. Right there with you. While it's really nice to work with the artist to get it right, I fully expect that my estate will lose 50% or more on what I get. After all, how many people are going to want a Sugar & Spike cover by Hembeck or Katie Cook or a JLA 29 riff featuring Scott Shaw!'s Captain Carrot, the Zoo Crew, and the Justa Lotta Animals? I like them, but I doubt that they will sell for much. Even my published pieces tend to be "odd," e.g., FCBD cover by CPW3 for Stuff of Legends or three pages from Huck - a good book that I doubt will be a big seller. Buy what you like and can afford! That's my best advice.
  12. It's Christmas! My final Christmas present of 2015 piece arrived on the 25th ... of February, but that's okay, it makes the season last longer! It's a homage to the cover of the first comic I ever bought (JLA 29) by Scott Shaw! featuring characters he co-created: the Amazing Zoo Crew and the Justa Lotta Animals. You can read more about it by clicking on the image and you should, my descriptions are excellent!

  14. Topic for a new thread - what did you buy that your spouse/significant other dos the like. Hmmm...
  15. I understand that. My wife doesn't like my Kubert Sgt. Rock and he's only charging the viewer. I on the other hand think your Punisher is terrific. Congratulations.
  16. In general, unpublished art (sketches and commissions) sell for less than a published drawing of the same subject and complexity.
  17. An S&S piece by Sheldon Mayer that I'd forgotten to post. I bought it framed off ebay. The funny thing is that I had bought some time before that a set of photocopies of the strip to which this was the punchline. The other two pieces are portraits done in NOLA of my wife and me. Click to embiggen and get the full story.
  18. Wow, Travis! This has been a very busy month! Keep it up. P.S. Nice to read a thread about OA collecting.

  20. That may not be correct. In Texas, where HA is based, shill bidding is illegal unless the auctioneer specifically states that it is. So far as I can tell, HA does not allow shill bidding. Therefore, I conclude that it may well be illegal. Moreover, it could amount to a large amount of money to a large number of bidders. This is my opinion only; I'm not a lawyer.
