  1. George Perez appeared at Comicpalooza and was signing and sketching for free. Before that though, he opened a pre-con commission list. I was quickly on that list as I'm a big fan of GP's work. I picked it up today. I present, Raven and Trigon by George Perez. Let me know what you think by clicking on the image below and leaving a comment.
  2. My youngest is a huge HP fan and for her college graduation (yes, all three are out of college if not yet off the payroll) I wanted to get her something special. Years ago, she mentioned that a certain HP passage from the Deathly Hallows was her favorite - the scene where Harry knowing that he is to die visits with his dead. I choose Colleen Doran to do the work - she's talented, an HP fan, and was available - a powerful combination. I was very happy and better, yet, she is very happy! Give it a look: http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1011488 Oh, yeah. The passage in question is an additional image if you are curious. Feel free to leave a comment telling me what a great dad I am.
  3. I suspect that this won't interest most of you, but ... I found MangaMan by Barry Lyga and Colleen Doran to be a fun and interesting read. I liked the art and when this page - perhaps the best - was on eBay for next to nothing, I bought it. She was selling to fund the re-release and restoration of A Distant Soil. It probably won't rival any of the other pieces in my gallery for hits, but that's okay. Check it out: http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1010859 or scroll down for the link averse
  4. I bought something new. Maybe not too exciting, but I like it. Here are Bigby Wolf and Snow White from the wornderful comic Fables as drawn by the series writer (and one time comic book artist) Bill Willingham. They are from a recent Hero Initiative eBay auction. I was lucky to get both halves of this power couple. So, click the image and read all about it.
  5. It looks great Brian. Apple should have an ad that looks so good.
  6. My first OA purchase was Superman by Curt Swan. My grandmother passed away when I was 11 (45 years ago) and left a trust fund for her five children. Over the years, two of the kids were bought out at their request and the other three decided to dissolve the trust and distribute it since the balance was small and the costs were high. My dad had passed away by then so his 1/3 passed to his four kids - so I got 1/12 of the trust. or $1500. Not much in the OA game, but for me it was a sizable, un-budgeted windfall. My wife and I decided that I could splurge with it. Somehow, I found the Heritage OA auction site and on it were two pieces of art that I really liked - a Sugar and Spike one-page story and my Superman. Not knowing much about pricing and auctions. I bid on both pieces. As I watched the auctions, it seemed to me that I'd have no real chance on the Swan, but I might have enough for the S&S. So, though I was really sad to do it, I gave up on the Superman and bet the wad on the S&S piece. Well, when the auction was over, I saw that I'd lost the S&S piece and was really bummed. I'd bid piddling amounts on a few others and as I scrolled down my lost list something weird happened. The Superman piece was green - HA said I'd won with $15 to spare. I really and truly couldn't believe it until they invoiced me a few days later. I was thrilled. Be sure to read the description to learn more of the piece's history. It's interesting. (Click on the picture.) BTW, years later, I got my one page S&Ss story and it has paper dolls, too! Be sure to read the description. I've learned a lot about the piece. (Click on the picture.)
  7. You might want to explore the archive at Heritage Auctions. Once you sign-up and get an id, you can search for Walking Dead pieces and see what they have sold for. if you want more data, join the Comic Art Fans site, pay for Market Data access, and access eBay and other auction sites as well as Heritage. Finally, you can search current dealer sites. There is a list of dealers on this board and the Dragonberry site has a list as well. PS. I bet you can't buy just one page.
  8. Congratulations on cornering your quarry. Now, you just have to bag it. Good luck.
  9. It's a beautiful image, but it also has a lot of story in it if you know the young Jean Gray and the iffyness of her powers. I really like it. Nice pick up! Do you have a CAF?
  10. You do have to read MG (and MP) from the top. That's a requirement. Get used to time jumps in MG, too, they are used well, but you have to pay attention. I have two pieces of art from Joe. Click on the images to get some more details about the pieces. The first is Casey. He's making a series of posters and this is the one for her. The second is really fun. There's a Deluxe Hardcover of the first dozen issues. Each chapter is prefaced by a page blank except for Morning Glories at the bottom (increasing as the chapters build up). Anyway, Joe was doing a signing at my LCS and put a head sketch on each of those pages. Very cool. Nothing from the story yet though.
  11. MP is fascinating! Lots of fun to read. I like Nick's work, but it is really different. Another by a young artist (Joe Eisma) that I enjoy is Morning Glories. Story and are are excellent and the coloring really adds to the book, IMO. Joe's a good guy despite being from Dallas.
