Today is TMNT day so happy TMNT day guys!

”Eastman and Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles volume 1 issue #1, later retroactively titled The Turtles' Origin is Told, is the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles story ever published, by Mirage Studios on May 5, 1984.”

40th Year Anniversary next year!  There HAS to be some kind of coordinated event whether in person or online to celebrate next year... right guys?!

Please see this post regarding my thoughts on scoring in the Registry:

After this Year's Awards, I plan on implementing major changes to the Registry structure.

Some of the changes I am planning are not going to be popular, but I feel they are necessary.

My intention is to make set scoring more dependent on completion percentage, set detail, and photographs, as opposed to having 2 or 3 keys/grails.

Hey thanks for this!  And appreciate CGC hearing and responding.  Cheers!

The way the scoring works is so flawed

A person who spends 8 years daily searching and submitting to build an almost full 9.8 set  (including 1 of 4, 1 of 5 in the world ultra ultra rare issues etc) achieves 70 / 72   9.8's in the set   gets a score of 20000.

That person cannot afford a 1st issue #1   where the cheapest versions of a mid grade of the book are 30k  etc

A  ?collector?  buys a 9.2 copy of #1  -  doesn't work on or collect any of the other 73 titles - just a 9.2 of #1  and his score is 24000   (4k higher than someone who has obviously built a massively better set than a single purchase) -

    Solution..

since this is a SET Collector's society   you should  make the official rank based on  % >9.8    achieved     on the set      so  a person who buys a 9.2 copy of issue 1 might be  #14 on the value ranking but  they are really un-ranked on the set collectors ranking

I am just venting as I find it ridiculous that a person can buy a single book and be ranked higher than someone who has been building a full set for years and years LOL

This truly hits so close to home.  I have 98% of this set and all but 3 or 4 are 9.8 plus there are complete pictures and descriptions and I'm ranked 17th or 18th or something.

    I second this

What will you do now that you have completed your 9.8 mission? That's a heavy fate to have accomplished already?!

I still have a few remaining and need bitcoin over $50k for the #1 First Print CGC 9.8 so still a while on that.

    #3 Variant B in 9.8 have 9.6
Sixth Print #1 I have a 9.2 and only one 9.8  although I have 1 contender in raw.
GameStop Variant #1 in 9.4 still looking for 9.8

Is there something about the counterfeit that is better than the 2nd print? I have that in 9.8, but it hasn't risen in value as much, and I'm wondering why the counterfeit would be better?

That was the question I posed honestly.  I think @sorrenmj stated it best, for the avid hardcore collectors, it has a place in the collection in that it is part of the overall story.

I think it is definitely possible but to a very specific buyer. Someone who is a TMNT fantastical, has cash and already has a 9.8 TMNT everything else and wanting to complete their collection. Is a counterfeit issue 1 currently worth more than a genuine first print 2? I think both issue 1 and issue 2 are heading to the stratosphere. I'm not sure issue 3 may get there but the Peter Laird variant might. The mystery for this comic is what makes this comic awesome in both storytelling and true life phenomena

You basically just described me :roflmao:Yes, not many opportunities to grab the #2 CGC 9.8 Counterfeit.  And it does strengthen the collection with the stories of old.  Thanks for your feedback!

Thanks a lot for the insight and suggestion. I honestly wouldn't know what to sell my copy for? I'm no grader but it surely is in pristine condition, literally bagged on the day at the convention and stored since. I'm certain this condition is rare? I took photos of it quite recently and put it back immediately. Here is my copy to see
