See, this is why nobody takes graded VHS collecting seriously...if these prices were legit we would see amounts like that (or at least close to it) being realized naturally from auctions - except all we see are them being listed at high buy-it-now prices with zero market history to rationalize the price.

Also, when it comes to vintage versions, I much prefer the Super 8 version of ESB. Not from a quality standpoint (because it's very bad) but rather it being an excellent example of editing down a 2 hour movie into thirty minutes without loosing the major plot points and pacing (which they overall succeeded int, albeit with one glaring cut near the end).

    Super 8!:cloud9:

Just wanted to remind you, when I post these listings, I am in no way an advocate, promoter, or making a positive connotation to these prices. I am merely a collector that has been accumulating sealed VHS tapes for years.

Allot of other folks have in this thread have astutely pointed out all the archival negative implications and dynamics etc. but there is something about rebooting and going back to somewhere you ache to go. These original preserved sealed VHS items are as close as I am going to get. They were a big deal for me personally in the 80s.

No selling my Venom #1 Error Black cover CGC 9.9 for $2500 was a mistake.

    Plus x2 NM #98 CGC 9.9's.

But then again everyone in the hobby has those kind of books they wished back x10 of my examples.

But what was the context of those transactions? I was bidding on some of your auctions years ago on eBay before I even knew you were on the boards and I don't think I've ever seen a BIN from you. Always auction style starting at a dollar and on some big slabs which is very admirable and a buyer friendly approach on your part. Prospect sees your listing, gets excited, and can win it in a week or so as opposed to you holding onto the book for two years with some stratospheric unrealistic BIN price.

I slabbed the 2nd copy. It was also a newsstand. Sold it about 3 years ago for about $7500

I would venture to guess you found out about the grade before you received the slab/opened the CGC box. That must have been a great day for you when you received the news.

This is a great copy of this book, especially with the vivid blues.

This issue was always a little bit of an outlier with the Bob McLeod inks (who I loved on Iron Man) and the Ernie Chan cover.

Not sure it worked for me, just a little bit of a departure on the art chores.

I'll have to pull some Iron Man out and take a look at that to compare! I found 70s early 80s to be my favorite ASM issues but I have not read allot of them in decades now.
