I don't blame him either, he obviously doesn't want/need the money. He's just not gonna sell much at those prices, and it wouldn't surprise me if the market ever caught up to those valuations that he would raise his prices again to stay above market.

Struzan's prices are a little insane. I finally got a response from what I assume is his agent and the prices start at $90K. $200K for the Muppet paintings and Adventures in Babysitting.

Nope, but I have been searching for it. It's my true Grail, and I'd sell everything I own to purchase it. I have it tattooed on my shoulder. Estimate $15-25K if it came to market.

Do the early cards ever come up for sale?

Unlimited set , Arabian, Legends etc.

Art from these sets come up rarely, and usually garner premium prices when they do. Even very inferior art from alpha goes for $8K+ due to nostalgia. If you meant the cards themselves and not the art, yes, people still buy and sell these regularly as well.

 

I hope those people never start buying comic book art.

Baga's Sol Ring at $15.2K

These were intended to be very ornate designs, as the world of Kaladesh is full of inventors...think Magic steampunk...that's why they all look like that.

Sol Ring is going to be auctioned off starting tonight on the art exchange, and there are already bids to $6500 before the auction even starts!

Very different, I like them both for different reasons. The Opal on the Rahn version is much larger and more the focus to me, but Baga does hands so well.

Like I said, all this stuff is second or third hand, so i don't automatically believe any of it. That said, when there's this much smoke, there's usually fire. I'd rather not perpetuate potentially untrue things, so I feel bad even posting what I did, so I won't go into the gory details of the consignment story I heard.

Daniel Chang is generally persona non grata among the majority of the community. This stems from many things including his personality, his business practices, and the fact that he's not really a collector. He's willing to sit on a piece forever to get the best price possible. None of these things offend me, and I'd deal with him if he had a piece I wanted at a price I wanted. The things that give me pause are all second hand accounts of underhanded things he's done, like skimming from consignments and going hard after art from families of the recently deceased (like Quinton Hoover's family). If he has done these things, I'd rather not deal with someone like that, and a lot of the community believes he has.

Of the 30 only 8 are traditionally painted...the rest are digital.

The mox, a couple of the Baga's, and Stewart are all going to be part of a super rare collection you can pull out of packs (approximately 1/144 packs). The cards look very nice, and the art, while homogenous, is beautiful. I really wanted to go after the Matt Stewart sword, but it immediately jumped to $4200, which is IMO a bit inflated and there are days left in the auction. The buyer will have trouble flipping it any time soon if that's his plan.

The cards look very nice, and the art, while homogenous, is beautiful. It's pretty much all old cards that need reprints that aren't standard legal. They are just there to add excitement to the packs. I would hate to be a completist, because a full set will cost a mint, but otherwise they are just a nice bonus. They started this last year actually in Battle for Zendikar block with old land cards in the same pack ratio and it went over well so they are making it permanent.

Humorously, if you looked at the card for Lantern of Insight, you would think it's awful (1 mana artifact that makes both players play with the top card of their library revealed), but it's actually a namesake card of a deck (lantern control) in one of the most popular formats (Modern)!

 

Interesting. Yeah I just read it. I can see it being useful actually. See what's coming ahead of time and plan your counterspells and other actions around whether or not you care about the card that's coming up coming into play.

 

Its one of those cards that I'm not into MTG enough to be able to design a deck around, but I can see how the more hardcore players could make it work..

It actually just shuts the other player out of the game using cards that remove the top card of their (or both players) library, never giving them anything good to play. Those cards are also 1 mana artifacts, so the deck can get the lock going pretty quick. It's miserable to play against, and the control name is kind of a misnomer, it's actually a prison deck.

Looks like someone just listed darkpact (for people that don't follow, early but bad card) for $85k

 

I think that guy is just unsure what the market is for an Alpha Hoover right now and wants to make sure he doesn't leave anything on the table. The artist unfortunately died a few years ago, and his last piece that sold publicly went for $18.2K last March (Regeneration).

Regeneration is a much better piece though IMO.

 

I think you could put 45k on darkpact and still be plenty safe. Thoughts?

Oh yeah, I don't think it's worth more than $25K, and I wouldn't pay that much even for Regeneration (which is a better piece). Vesuvan Doppelganger on the other hand hits $50K easy...sky's the limit.
