Please grade this Hawk #9 (Baker)!
LadyDeath replied to Point Five's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Really clean copy! Always liked this cover. Did you just get it? I'd say 5.5 or so. -

How did you land DS 28? Seems extremely tough to come by. Nice grade too.

Talk about big art... one of Baker's more unusual covers. A giantess? Good description: Filling the cover design, a pretty blonde looms large over her multiple suitors. Compared to his early romance works, Matt Baker sometimes used more conceptual thinking in his covers. The gorgeous example suggests the girl's predominance in the boys' minds, while maintaining her appeal and femininity.

Definitely agree here. Hate the crowded covers with little side panels. Gimme big, in your face art any day.

Heritage's Next Event Auction has started posting books !

Baker prices have been tame lately. Few weeks ago on Heritage I got a Diary Secrets well below GPA. A handful of others weren't astronomically high either. -
Gruesome demise covers (or saved in the nick of time).

Low Grade Trimmed...Less Stigma on GA Books?
LadyDeath replied to Dr. Balls's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
I can see that. Some books are just hard to come by, so I'm cool with settling for what I can get. As long as it doesn't look like a dog ate the cover for breakfast. -

Smart man. I have a .5 of Wonder Comics 17 with a missing centerfold. The artwork is untarnished. Why would I care if something affects the story if it's slabbed? I don't! -

This is my biggest problem with Spawn. Big picture view: great concept, interesting story, complex character. Close up: lots of exposition, massive retconning, really wordy in some issues, the new reports are a huge waste of time, and so many plot lines go off on a strange side tangent and then just end.

Always wish Baker had done more horror. Don't think there was a genre he couldn't tackle.

I just bought a book from them yesterday for the first time. Afterwards it said, "shipping your orders can take up to 3 weeks to ship out of our facility." Seeing that left a sour taste in my mouth. I'm in NY though so hopefully don't run into the same problems you've faced. That sounds like a nightmare scenario. I really hope it gets squared away for you.

That's usually the tradeoff one has to make. Expensive, scarce GA book or something hassle-free to buy that collects all the material.

Certainly know what you mean. I'd love to have all three originals ready to read. This is my only CK as my Baker collection is just getting started.

I like displaying my slabs. Looks a lot better than 3.5 as well. The hardcover Canteen Kate is on Amazon for 12 bucks, can always read it that way.
