  1. Thanks James but I have the X-Men #221 scan but I do need the Batman #401 and the GI Joe #63. As to the Whitmans.... these are probably among the most loosely doucmented variants so anything is possible but I doubt there are more than one or two undiscovered issues as I have been tracking these for quite awhile now and someone did tell me about the Warlord #22 but I had never actually seen one until now. The site is coming along great BTW... a great reference for variant collectors.

  2. Okay, thanks guys I can live with another year and a half or so. I just hope there are enough of those tough westerns around by the time I get to 2 or 3. Is there some consensus on how many of those Cat 5 comics exist... less than 20 for some I would think. Although MMW #45 doesn't seem nearly as rare as the Kid Colts. Opinions?

  3. I got the POTA #7 today and in great shape. Thanks FD.

I've been at this for 5 months and still have 9 to go. Just curious as to how long it took those with complete sets or close to complete sets to get it together. I figure it will take around a year or a little more. I am in the ballpark?

  4. Well, I have had several expensive (in hindsight) comics slip right through my fingers when I worked at my LCS back in the early eighties. However, my biggest blunder occurred at a comic convention about 12 years ago in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. It was one of those one day shows that would pop every few months in South Florida with few if any artists or actvities except dealing comics. I got in early and attendance was light and in the back corner was a dealer I had never seen before so I rambled over and lo and behold he had a sign saying all comics where 25 cents, 5 for 1 dollar, 30 for 5 dollars, etc. I loved going through cheap comics. grin.gif

Anyway, this guy had whole runs of Marvel and DC from the late 60's to late 70's or so and the vast majority were in immaculate condition. He had them bagged in bunches of 5-10 a bag. There must have been at least 50 long boxes with whole runs like ASM 100-200, Hulk 130-200, Avengers 70-170, Batman 200-300, Detective, House of Mystery, on and on and on. My eyes must have almost popped out at the time. He had multiples of most issues and even some keys like Iron Fist 14, X-Men 94(I think) and Spotlight 5.

I only had 20 or 30 bucks on me so did I get those cherry ASM, or Neal Adams covers, DC 100 pagers, New X-Men, Hulk 181, etc? No, I got late silver early bronze age Metal Men, Luke Cage from the teens to the 50's, a few Invaders, Legion of Super-Heroes, a couple MTIO and a complete run of Ms. Marvel.

I probably could have paid off my car or a good chunk of my mortgage if I had bought the right stuff back then since most of these were 9.4s easy and possibly some 9.6s. Christo_pull_hair.gif

I later found out that the dealer had bought out some storage containers that people had stopped paying for and that he paid about $75 for all of them. Oh the pain!!!! tonofbricks.gif

P.S. I would also like to hear what happened with Greg White as I have seen some strange things occur at his shop back in the early 90's.

  5. Thanks Woogie, I am always on the lookout for undiscovered variants.

I am currently researching the "So Much Fun Variants" and so far I think I have discovered over ten of them. These were all reprints of Marvel, DC and Archie comics. I will post a list and pics once I have all the info together.

  6. Yes, it is loose but I just reattached it. I didn't want to chance losing out on it since it is a tough one to get. I am not a big condition guy as long as the comic is complete. Now if only some Westerns or horror reprints would come up with loose centerfolds... I would buy those all day at $50.00. Once I have a complete set I will upgrade if the price is right.

  7. Here is my latest purchase a vg/f Fury #134. Thanks to all of you who pointed this out to me and didn't bid on it. hail.gif I still have 18 toughies to go but at least this one is out of the way.

BTW, does anybody know why I am having such a tough time with Marvel Tales #66? I have found all the Cat 1-3 books with relative ease but this one has eluded me. It seems that nobody has more than one copy. Any ideas? confused-smiley-013.gif

  8. The Supefriends #4 Whitman that Mile High has up is actually #16. Good find on the Sgt. Rock Whitman Harry... I was starting to think my list was wrong.

I think it a bit odd that Whitman took out the issue numbers on all the variants but left in the price on the later issues even though they all sold in polybags as sets. Any ideas why?

  9. No, there isn't a 30 or 35 cent cover gallery as of yet. Several members of this board have complete sets of the 30 cent variants (I'm 20 away from the set) and quite a few are close to a complete 35 cent variant set so finding the scans should be relatively easy here. Go for it! yay.gif

P.S. remember to replace the current DC Comics Presents #1 with the actual #1 that DD provided.

  10. Great site. I'd hoped to do one but I lack the time and Web saavy for it. I have a bunch of scans I can send you. BTW I have yet to visually verify the Sgt. Rock so the existence of that one is questionable. I will post some of the ones I have handy tonight.

Oh and welcome to the Boards! thumbsup2.gif

  11. Thanks Harry, I just kind of put that together quickly this morning as I wanted an avatar with all the different variant types except the regular one. I will refine it and make it clearer this weekend and also vary the colors some. I love the pink starburst of Powerman #33 so that will definitely be part of the next one.
