Thanks for the scans Ian... really neat stuff you got there. How is the the Promo database coming along? There is a list over at Mike's Amazing World of DC but it is missing a bunch of these.
-
It would be nice if the article shook out some western variants but I severely doubt it. Still, it was a nice piece especially for variant collectors.
-
no, no 35 centers , I was really hoping to not to see the seven on it, but there it was, asked him for a better picture, but he would not give it to me. buyer beware!
you win some you lose some.
Congrats on the TOD #20 hidden 30 cent variant. I saw it too late and underbid. Let us know what condition its in. You won that one!
-
I think your right as I have it as a 4 on my list also. It is definitely not a 5. I know someone who has 8 or 9 copies of this variant and all 30 cent variant completists that I know about have copies.

My (lucky) timing was great! Many thanks to you Don. I would be nowhere near done with my set if it wasn't for you and the other great collectors on this Board-Harry and Carl especially. Variant collecting rules!!!!!!!

Yeah like that TOD #60 that closed recently. I am so happy I got mine a couple weeks ago or else I would be depressed having to fight off bids like this! I hope he doesn't need many more 30 centers.

Oh man!!!! If you would have contacted me a week ago on the COC #22 you would have had an instant sale.
I just received a real nice VF one in the mail today. Thanks again Harry! Have to change my sig line now.

VG maybe VG-... is that some smudging on the Conan logo? On second thought thanks for outbidding me on this as this is not really an upgrade for me.
Regardless it was a nice pickup... welcome to the club and good luck on the 35 cent variants. Are you going to get the Kull #16 30 cent variant also? I don't see that on your list.
-
Here are some more new ones. BTW, the Legion #255 cover did not take on the gallery. The gallery is really filling in now and looking great. Are you going to create a thumbnail link to a larger image for all the covers? Thanks.
-
Hi Earl, not all those are mine but I do have quite a few and all have the regular DC inidicia. The difference seems to be just on the front cover.
-
Okay here are a few more. Most of the scans are not great but at least it is something until something better comes along.
-
Hey Roger--
Carl was shipping your books to me to preview, then I was supposed to send them to you........
Arghhhh!!!!
-
Mysteriously, the 30 variant logos have reverted back to the normal 25 cent covers and the Marvel Value stamps have been all cut out of the books Carl was to ship to Harry...
Please tell me the anti-variant plague described above was restricted to those shipped to the Northeast!

Okay club members since I am trying to complete a 30 cent variant set I have become keenly aware of how tough some of these variants are to get. Since Paul has categorized them from Cat 1 to 5 I was wondering how many of these variants exist. Based on my limited experience in collecting them for the past 5 months I have these estimates:
Cat 1 Common (401-550 per title exist)
Cat 2 Uncommon (276-400 per title exist)
Cat 3 Very uncommon (151-275 per title exist)
Cat 4 Scare (26-150 per title exist)
Cat 5 Rare (less than 25 per title exist)
Now this is just a range and certain variants fall within the lower range and others in the upper range. For example among the Cat 4 variants I don't think that the X-Men are nearly as tough to find as Two-Gun Kid. I am in the ballpark here?
What would your esimates of the above be? Let us know.
-
Yes, I paid $80 for a slabbed VG about 2 months ago. I probably could have gotten a better deal down the road but I didn't want to chance it.
-
You got a great deal on the X-Men variant as I paid 50% more for a VG slabbed.

I received my order from Don today and they are just lovely. The package was incredible and probably could have tossed off a building without any damage (though I would be hesitant to try it). Thanks to Don for making this available to Board members before anyone else. Where else could I have gotten 3 Cat 5 and 2 Cat 4 variants but here? Here is the WWT #16. Although grading at a 7.5 it looks better than most 8.5 comics I've seen. Sorry for the rant but it was exciting to find the package waiting for me and Don even threw in a couple HTD #4 variants so I got an upgrade in the deal as well.
The DC Collection Is COMPLETE.
