  1. What's the difference between Darkhawk #5 1st print and Darkhawk #5 2nd print? hm

Right, it is part of the 1992 Marvel Vintage Pack-

This was one of only two or three titles that I bought at my LCS during the 90's and I have the complete set plus all crossovers up until 2000 or so. Great fun at the time.

  2. Start a collection of JCPenny variants from the 90s. Some of those books are pretty tough to find.

Occasionally they cause havoc in auctions as well because sellers think they are the original copies.

    So does CGC occasionally.

And just because. 9,4 on a copper seems terrible. Its almost best case scenarion for SMFs

A 9.4 on a SMF book is like a 9.9/10.0 of a normal copper book. Just insane. Nice book!

Well, I wouldn't go that far but since there is a much smaller pool of available issues to choose from-they are tougher in grade. I would say that in my set four would grade 9.4, four would be about 9.0 and the last four 7.5-8.0. Of course I had a head start on most everybody and upgraded and then traded my undercopies over the course of a few years.

BTW, this is a great set to put together since it crosses over 3 publishers just like the Shan-Lon mini comics.

  3. There are other errors out there just maybe not this exact error. The thing is that if it is an error then you would think the printers are trying to avoid it so very few happen much less see the light of day. I know of other similar errors such as a Hulk issue with a missing UPC on the whole newstand run and a Spider-Man with missing bars in the UPC. There are other errors such as missing mastheads and several with missing text on the cover.

Take a look at this FF issue where the last bar on the UPC is "dropping"...

It is next to impossible to prove but an error seems the most likely explanation.

  4. Surprised there was not more talk about these EBAY Auction, I guess people were observing Rule 1.

I was the under bidder on this one and a tad shocked not to win.

My Bid here but got blown out of the water. :flamed:

Wow, amazing price considering the not so great condition of those copies. I am so glad I got my VFs way back when for a fraction of what those went for. I can only imagine what a KC 208 would go for nowadays.

  5. Another set of reprints that are often overlooked are the spidey hologram set of 2nd prints with gold holograms vs the silver 1st prints.

Yes, and to me those seem especially difficult. I haven't seen many copies of any of them. Did all four get reprinted?

To my knowlegde only Spec Spider-man 189 and Web of Spider-Man 90 had 2nd prints.

  6. The top comic is an example of a newstand distribution edition while the bottom was a direct sales edition. Normally the newstand editions of this era have a upc in the lower left corner but that scan has it blacked out. The price boxes evolved over time but the upc boxes were very different for many years as the direct sale version has some type of art while the newstand editions had the upc code.

  7. Okay, this thread has inspired me to go ahead and great a gallery over at the STL galleries for these later Copper printings. I put the print number, year published and the color difference for easy reference. Let me know of any corrections. There are several missing because I just didn't know how to identify the different prints or they looked the same to me (Nam #1). If you have one to add either post it here or pm me the scan and I'll add it right away. Here is the linky- http://stlcomics.com/cover_gallery/categories.php?cat_id=544

  8. I'd like to ask the OP to edit his first post to start a master list of these Copper 2nd prints so we know what to chase (and I could reference it on the road). I've learned of many new ones reading this thread. I'd also like to encourage more posting of scans/pics to see some of these babies. This has become a fun box diving challenge at cons or better shops, but I was running out of known books to look for. Now I have added to my list! :headbang:

I'd also like to see where we should start the list as the GI Joe 2nd prints started in 1983 but the main group of 2nd prints didn't start ramping up until 1990. Should we included TPBs and Graphic Novels too! Should we inlcude everything above just to be as inclusive as possible?
