  1. There are quite a few of these even if you only count Copper and before. Here are some I just thought of... FF 371 Ghost Rider 1 and 15 New Warriors 1 ASM 101, 265, 390 Cap 282 Alpha Flight 106 Silver Surfer 50 Daredevil 319 New Mutants 100 I know I am missing several more and then of course you have all the Marvel So Much Fun reprints that PA mentioned and all the Marvel Vintage Pack reprints. This would make an interesting set though!
  2. Thanks for the info DG... have to keep an eye out for another R vs T just in case. Here are scans of the other books I was talking about in case anyone is interested...
  3. I love the Diamond exclusive TPBs set... in mine I also include the two DC retailer incentive TPBs and the Marvel 1992 Retailer Summit 3 volume bound set and I also have the Batman Birth of the Demon Special Promotional copy even though it is not the whole TPB. BTW, my copy of R vs T has 3 backing board like inserts that you can cut out... are those the ones you are referring to?
  4. This makes a lot of sense Terry. The Cap 212 no banner variant really proves it to me since that is a glaring error and would have been caught fairly quickly. It could be that the shorter runs (whether 35 cent or Fat Diamond) are always first since they would require changes compared to the longer runs of the normal copies. BTW, did you ever finish the 30 cent variant set? Just curious. Good to have your input regardless.
  5. Congrats David... tough book to find also. Did you find it locally? Details please?
  6. I have the whole set but none have double covers... wish I did though!
  7. You probably can't find much pricing data because so few have turned up... around 10 so far. If you have a 9.8 candidate that will probably set the bar for its worth. There are X-Men completists who are searching for them so it will be a quick sell if that is what you want to do. I have all the Modern Discount variants and the error editions but it took me years to find them all cheap. Alas my 423 error is only a VF at best and probably more or a F+ but all the others are in great condition. Did you find this in Tampa? If so I wonder if it originally came from Macdill AFB... that would make sense since it seems that the Avengers error edition at least did come from military outlets.
  8. I read that too, in Overstreet, along with the addendum that there is little to no chance it will be available for sale any time soon...maybe another copy will turn up... I'd be curious to see what issues are confirmed to exist and how many copies of each issue are known and then in what grade. This is the same kind of information that goes around in the bronze age 30 and 35 cent variant threads... Archie Comics 130 15 Cent Price Variant 6.0 Archie 125 15 Cent Price Variant 7.0 Archie 127 15 Cent Price Variant 7.0 Archie's Madhouse 19 15 Cent Price Variant 4.0 & 5.0 Archie's Madhouse 24 15 Cent Price Variant 2.0 Archie's Girls Betty and Vernonica 77 15 Cent Price Variant 5.5 & 7.5 Archie's Madhouse 19 15 Cent Price Variant 4.0 & 5.0 Archie's Madhouse 24 15 Cent Price Variant 2.0 Archie's Pal Jughead 84 15 Cent Price Variant 5.0 Pep Comics 154 15 Cent Price Variant 1.5 & 4.5 Pep Comics 155 15 Cent Price Variant 3.0 Pep Comics 156 15 Cent Price Variant 3.0 I think that is all the slabbed copies. Add these to the list... 9. Wow, congratulations... that is a rare item. The only ones I have ever heard of are the one that Ian has and two that DCindexer showed some time back. BTW, I think Ian's was found in a Hercules figure and DC Indexer had another two so maybe there is one for each figure somewhere? Perhaps some prototypes that somehow made it into the retail market?
  10. Congrats Bill, out of all my rarer variants this is one I was unsure I could find as there were only 5 or so known at the time. You would have to pry this from my corpse as it is that rare. Shieldagent was the first to dig these out but I finally did finish my set last year when I found a copy of the Avengers 77 error. Don't let this go unless you find an upgrade. I noticed that this issue along with the Avengers 77 error both have a lighter yellow price circle and no outline around the price. I am not sure if we ever figured out if these were regional printings or just a run of error copies that somehow got out of the printers. Shieldagent might have more and/or better info. This is a nice small but tough to find subset of modern price variants. Check out Shieldagent's gallery here- http://stlcomics.com/gallery/moddiscmarvel/
  11. This makes sense along with the Star Wars issues. They come up much more often than the other 35s and Marvel would want as wide a distrubution as possible to see the price resistance for new series vs older established ones. It is also possible that some 35s were not available in all 35 cent test markets thus making those tougher to find which might explain the rarity of the HB comics. Why they would limit the HB comics might have to do with the demographics targeted as those are more for younger kids where the parents make the decision for them and not the direct consumer. Just a theory but it is what I could come up with.
  12. Wasn't it somewhere in California or am I mixing this up with the 30's?
  13. actually, that makes metarog a nerd. Considering I learned a lot of this from you makes you a what? Nerd trainer! Got your power back I assume? I'll try to get ahold of you this weekend.
  14. Metarog is the expert. DG Thanks, not so much an expert on X-Men variants although I do have all the Pressman, X-Men 423 error, 30 cent variants, 118 Whitman/Direct Sale, X-Men 221 So Much Fun, X-Men 302 logo variant and of course all the MVP issues. However, I never collected any of the X-titles although I have a fairly large Marvel Bronze/Copper collection. I did do a lot of research on the 1992-94 MVP sets, So Much Fun editions, Shan-Lon minis and Marvel Silver-Age black circle variants so I do have some knowledge about those issues. Of course, just like everybody else I have no idea how the X-Men 302 came about. I chalk it up as an error variant although that is just my opinion but it is all I can come up with... similiar situation to the X-Factor 38 price anomaly.
  15. I have heard accounts from several collectors that they did indeed see these sets in comic book shops but as to whether they came through the usual distribution process has not been confirmed. Sometime ago I did see a set of 1994 MVPs shrinkwrapped together in a tight bundle. Not sure if the 1992 or 1993 sets came this way but they were all sold as sets in the JCPenney and Sears catalog. My 1992 and 1994 sets were all bought as complete sets and it looks like they were never even read. The 1993 set I had to piece together from about 6 or 7 sources and figuring out which 20 issues came in the set was a major research-intensive task!
  16. Nice theory but I've had some of the Filipino editions in the past and they are on very thin paper stock and have either National Book Store or Goodwill in the indicia among other differences. I compared the logo variant 302 side by side with a regular 302 and except for the cover they are exactly alike in every other way. Hmm. Never considered the possibility of being a foreign issue. Just need some proof. I think we're getting closer. Being as metarog has the book and is the man (along with shield agent) when it comes to errors/variants, and have a lot to do with the stl website, I'm not sure if the xmen book you posted is along the same lines as the 302. I'm sure he will weigh in on this.
  17. Hey Valiantman, is there a way to search the subtitle or notation area in the title? For example, lots of issues have variant, second printing, Gold edition, etc after the issue number but it doesn't come up on the title search. It would be great if we could search this field and see which issues have this additional description. Thanks in advance it this can be done!
  18. Great stuff Craig... are you sure about Super Marvel Action #3 being only 5-15? There were some auctions years back that featured quite a few of them for several weeks in a row.
  19. Thanks... that is a great resource all in one big page! There are a couple of errors I noticed though. There is a Black Panther #2 and a Dr. Strange #19 listed as 30 cent variants although all issues are 30 cents. However, for a variant junky this info is great stuff.
  20. Of all those issues only JLA 178 has a very faint chance of existing... the others are either on dead months for Whitmans (JLA 177 and Action 506) or before the line expanded past Superman related comics (BB 143). Superboy 31... the less said by me the better!
  21. Is it the bottom bar line "falling" off lower part of the UPC? Great eye!
  22. Congratulations and welcome to the club! I think yours is about the 9th or 10th complete set known.
  23. Nice one Matt... as Harry said CGC is tough on bronze variants but that looks like a 9.4 at least if the back cover is nice. Good luck!
  24. Man, I was just going to type that. Variant Collectors Unite!
  25. Hey Hey, feels just like old times around here... good to hear from you Terry!
