  1. I still want to see your Dell rack, Robot Man!
  2. Superman 41 and 25 are close to your theme.
  3. Yeah, it's tough to find sellers who will ship them. I had a deal on one break down because the seller couldn't figure out shipment. I really really lucked out with my new rack as I got it on a "buy it now" on eBay and the seller shipped.
  4. Here's my new comic rack. Never seen one like it. Same format as the old wooden shelf style you see most often from Dell, but also have seen from DC. But, this one is made out of wire and clearly, because of the DC checkerboard, dates to between February 1966 and August 1967: It's perfect for me because I was born in 1966.
  5. Someone just put one of those Dell racks up on ebay, albeit in much worse shape than yours and probably at a much higher price ($1,200), but I'm sure it will sell. And before my mention of eBay sets off the usual whines complaining about the site, I want to say that there are still incredible deals and finds to be made on eBay. I just picked up this rack on eBay ... for cheap: Wow! Awesome rack! I've never seen one like that. Very easy to date. I actually prefer the folding racks like that. They take up a lot less room if not in use. Funny thing, my Dell rack is complete as pictured. But, about a year later, I found another one of the blue panels with wording on it at an antique show all by it's self. I bought it and put it at the bottom so now mine has 3 blue panels. I recently picked up a cool 1950's Little Golden Book wire hanging rack. Only one I've ever seen. I will try and shoot a photo and post it later. I think we're on the same page on the dating, between February 1966 – August 1967, when DC used the checkerboard on comics. That's one reason I'm really happy to have this rack: I was born in 1966. I always hated the blank bottom on the Dell wood racks so I'm really looking forward to your picture!

  7. I just closed a deal for a very cool comic I've wanted for a long time and it turns out the copy I have purchased has interment camp markings! Weird coincidence. I'll post about it once the shipment gets to me.
  8. Where was this story published? Four Favorites #9
  9. It is a great thread and the original posts are awesome. So awesome, in fact, that the OP actually referenced and linked to the comic story I just posted. I guess I never clicked through his link when I read the earlier posts. Still, I think the story deserves to be set forth in full. I'd really like to know the artist and writer. I'd also love to see all the original links to the images in the original posts on this thread restored. Jpep? Are you out there?
  10. Amazing! A non-racist GA story about Japanese interment. Who knew? Not me:
  11. You need to actually read your definition of "consensus." Like many of your arguments on this thread, you got this one wrong too. "Consensus" means "unamity" and "harmony" not "majority rule." P.S. I don't care about the value of the books. That doesn't prove anything relevant to me about the questions we are debating. BB 60 is a scarcer book in high grade and has the first appearance of a new character, either of which would explain why it garners higher prices than BB 54 without anyone thinking BB 60 is the first TT.
  12. The only person asserting the existence of a "consensus" favoring BB 60 is you. DC has made clear, once again, it disagrees. Dealers also clearly disagree based on their listings. And plenty of folks on this thread disagree with you here. The only thing happening next week is an auction of a B&B 60 in 9.0. And what we don't disagree about is that black covers are harder to find in high grade. So I wouldn't be surprised to see a 9.0 BB 60 fetch a strong price, stronger than a BB54 in 9.0, as they are rarer in 9.0 due to the black cover. And since you are focused on the money angle, perhaps that should make you happy enough. But it has nothing to do with the significance of the books. (BB60 is significant as 1st Wonder Girl anyway, and some feel that's more important than first TT). Worth noting, from the money angle that a 9.6 BB 54 went for $7,170 and a 9.6 BB60 went for $8,365. That's supply and demand since there are seven 9.6 BB54 and only a single BB60 in 9.6.
  13. "Teen Titans A Celebration of 50 Years" is now out. Not surprisingly, it starts with the very first Teen Titans story: Brave and the Bold #54. Interestingly, it does not even include B&B 60 in the collection. So now we know DC's position.
  14. That was me, and I'd bet on CK not leaving the NFL given the success he's having and his antipathy for recruiting and donor relations. I am very well connected at Oregon, and would be shocked if CK's views on college changed so much after just two NFL years. But, if the report is true, I'm not surprised that CK would talk to Foley. His position has always been that he'll talk to anyone and listen to offers (and it has been a policy that serves him well in his contract negotiations). And Foley may think he has to give it the old college try even if futile. But, its a little odd given the public comments that Florida wants to hire a coach by the end of December. Of course, the larger part of the discussions could easily have been about CK's views on various college coaches -- a wise discussion for an AD to have with a man who was considered a great college offensive mastermind and who still networks with a lot of college coaches to share thoughts on offensive innovations. I don't see Florida going after Scott Frost, but I could see an AD talking to Kelly about a variety of non-Oregon guys.
  15. I read Florida wants to make a hire by end of December (e.g., hire a college guy). So who are the realistic possibilities?
  16. I'd want Chip Kelly if I was a Gator too (but, then again I'm a Duck). But, Chip Kelly is not, as far as I can tell, overly motivated by money. Oregon could have paid him a lot to get him to stay. He was facing two years with NC shots if he stayed. But, he didn't want the money or the college NC. The guy's not extravagant. He's not into possessions. He values some good friends and his family. Which is why he wants to be in New England. He values challenges and winning. He wants to prove himself the best. He's an old gym rat. And, in his mind, college is not the peak of the coaching profession. He wants to win in the NFL. Plus, he hates recruiting. And he's not great with donors. I don't think he'll ever return to college.
  17. Gruden works a LOT LOT less than any college coach. Gruden is only busy during the NFL season and maybe the draft. But college coaches are busy recruiting all year long, running camps, spring practices, donor events, etc.
  18. I would be surprised to see Kelley leave the Eagles to go to Florida. so would I, but that would be who I would like to see Fl make a run at... and butt fumble threw 2 picks and fumbled 2x yesterday...even Kelley can't help that train wreck True, but he was playing @ GB, so I'll give him a bit of a pass (but only a small one). If he backs up his poor play next week, then yeah, not even Kelley can help him. I believe last week was the best statistical start of his career thus far, was it not? Best thing the Eagles could do is trade up for Mariota. But, it is going to be too far a climb to be realistic.
  19. Dream on. Chip Kelly hates recruiting. He's done with college ball. His next step is to the Patriots. He's a New England guy through and through.
  20. I'm currently in Oregon attending my nephew's wedding. When I return home I'll go through my pulps and see if I can find anything. Thanks BZ. My pleasure. We'll be here for another 9 days. We're presently in Eugene but we will also be spending a few days in Salem and Portland. If anyone knows of any cool shops, museums, or tourist attractions you can recommend, I'd appreciate hearing about them. Anyone know if BZ had a good time in Eugene? I grew up there and attended UO. I hope he enjoyed it. I've been missing his posts. Sfcityduck, I have to go Eugene every few months for work. Is there any cool places you recommend to check out besides Nostalgia Collectibles? Any recommendations would be awesome. Nostalgia Collectibles is owned by Darrell Grimes and he has another store over by campus (skip it). But, there's another dealer in town, Hooker's Comics and Cards, which is good if you are into SA (although it looks like a tornado went off in the store). There are also a couple of people selling comics and related materials out of antique malls. If you really want to have a fun GA experience, make an appointment with the UO archivist to view the Gardner Fox archives. Most of my best recommendations for a visitor to Eugene involve restaurants and bars. I think Eugene has one of the best fish & chip lunch places in the country (Newman's Fish Market). Obviously, the micro brew fans go crazy there. Let me know what you are looking for.
  21. Was anyone disputing that? Re-read my posts.
  22. A quick search on eBay shows that BB 60 recently sold on eBay for the following prices: 10/28 - $16.50 10/26 - $29.95 10/25 - $29.99 10/24 - $30.00 10/23 - $203.50 10/23 - $195.00 10/23 - $39.44 10/23 - $102.00 10/22 - $36.00 Etc. Doesn't look hard to get a copy.
  23. I agree with Yoddler, BB 60 may well be harder to find in high grade because of the black cover. So that's not a bet I would take. A price comparison in low grade might tell us more about the actual demand versus supply. To be frank, though, TT collectors should want both issues.
  24. I see at least five copies of BB 60 on eBay. So I don't think its at all rare. Based on the number of pending sales on comiclink, it appears that BB 54 is in high demand at good prices.
