  1. I think this was the first Baker that I paid more than $1K for. Given that I bought it in 2013, that price seemed high. I believe it was highest graded at the time, although there's now a 9.0 on the census.
  2. I agree that it's a great cover. Running away with the milkman was a movie trope from Hollywood's Golden Age but I can't think of another romance cover that depicts. I think the lack of GGA has held down its price relative to its rarity. Baker completists--the finest people there are!--are the only ones who seem willing to pony up for a copy.
  3. That book (but not this copy) was the last one I needed to complete my Baker St John romance run. Bought a copy on the boards five years ago. I've upgraded twice since then. The attached copy was my first upgrade. I bought it from an old-time NY dealer who had bought it from the grandson of the woman who had bought it off the stands as a kid.
  4. I have the other 8.5, bought 10 years ago for a price that seemed high then but seems like a steal now.
  5. I think these are overlooked. There are also a couple of Saunders covers in that run (or maybe they were in the earlier Ziff-Davis run).
  6. My understanding is that there are still some Sixth Street books that haven't come to market.
  7. I'm also thinking that the buyer is hoping to reverse the resto. I know from experience that sometimes Nelson & Co. will decline to undo a sealed spine split if doing so will signifcantly damage the book.
  8. Who gets you in trouble these days?
  9. Yeah, always check the CLink census counts. They sometimes roll over item descriptions from one auction to the next ... and the next .... and the next ....
  10. And because you parted with it, some poor, unfortunate rube now has a fourth mortgage on his house.
  11. One of my favorite covers. Tremendous copy with great pq. My copy is tied for second highest graded.
  12. Bought off the boards almost 10 years ago. Not the highest graded--there's a 9.6 on the census.
  13. Oops! Wrong issue. This one is the NH copy, although the CGC graders didn't note it as such.
  14. A few years ago, Ritter had several of the New Hampshire copies of the Texan. I was able to nab the NH copy of this issue.
  15. And why is it, again, that you didn't sell them to me??
  16. Yowza! Major congrats! If you're wondering about the market price of a copy in that grade, you will soon find out!
  17. Was considered one of the three or four Baker must haves. I own that copy, slabbed as a 5.5. At least I think I do, unless I upgraded and sold this copy. (My records can be a trifle sketchy.)
  18. A more successful recent submission of a raw book that had been sitting around for awhile.
  19. Yeah. I don't think JVJ bought the Flyin' Jenny cover and I think he was right. I've a copy or two but never thought that it was a Baker book.
  20. Look on my item ye mighty and despair! A rarity from that period in which Baker was working for Quality under the pen name "Ogden Whitney."
  21. All right, Bakerites. Think you've uncovered some rare and desirable Baker items? Think your Baker collection is complete? Think your collection can't be topped? Well, I say thee Nay! I have uncovered a Baker item of such unsurpassed rarity as to shiver your timbers! An item that you will despair of duplicating!
