  1. Red hair in the interior of a book was against the Comic Code.
  2. One of a number of Baker covers where he was drawing what he felt like drawing with zero consideration to how appealing the subject matter would be to the book's target audicence of preteen/teen girls. Recently married, stuck with a howling infant, and hubby is heading for greener pastures! What teen dreams are made of! Contrast with the endless covers Colletta did for Atlas with variations on the boy and girl locked in a clinch.
  3. If you should ever--unaccountably!--have the urge to trade down to a very nice 7.0 + cash you can find me on the street corner under the lamppost.
  4. Really like the color scheme on that book. I assume Baker was responsible. May have a gone a bit overboard with the shading in the Punch-Board Profit thumbnail.
  5. Great! But I consider every one of those books to be romance!
  6. Nice! There's a 9.6. Anybody here have it? I have the 9.4. Bought it on the boards eight years ago. Paid a crazy price, which, of course, seems cheap now.
  7. I remember the auction of the DA 2. The seller was getting worried that the book was going to go low. I bid on it but was the under or the under-under or the under-under-under bidder. I was down there somewhere.
  8. Yes, I think that's rub. I believe the indicias say Flyboy, Daring Adventure, and so on. Curious because you would think to avoid the post office reading the indicia and seeing the book as apparently a new series and asking for a deposit, St John would have put Approved Comics or Blue Ribbon Comics in the indicia. But maybe he wasn't selling mail subs for these books, so it wouldn't come up. An experienced GA grader should be alert for books from these two series, but maybe that's asking too much given the volume of books they have to grade.
  9. Possibly a button @Robot Man doesn't have? Of course, he probably has it in three different versions!
  10. Five year sub! I wonder if the kid was still reading Disney books by the time the sub ended? Weirdos like us would (I still reread Barks DDs) but the average kid probably wouldn't have.
  11. Great stuff. I think I mentioned tonight in another thread that I though Promise books were being successfully flipped. For the most, I'm wrong. Wasn't the Saddle Justice 6 a No Sale the first time through?
  12. Yep. There was a bit of a mania particularly when the first few groups of those books were auctioned.
  13. Interesting. Possible that HA didn't submit the book to CVA but Clink did.
  14. A detached cover used to merit a label note, but I guess that is no longer the case. I thought a 3.0 was the ceiling for a book with a detached cover, but either I'm mistaken or that's changed. Still, there's not much excuse for a buyer not looking up the grading notes, particularly since they're now free. Kudos to HA, by the way, for frequently including them right in the auction listing.
  15. Terrific detective work. An example of what makes these boards the best source of information on GA collecting that there is.
  16. I thought it was Secrets of True Love
  17. Their experience with Havery had to be a big disappointment given how quickly most of the books were canceled. I've never read a full explanation of what happened. Simon breezes through the episode in his autobiography. The Boy Explorers 2 is probably the easiest to find of the Harvey sub only issues. I think we've kicked around a few times whether Flash Gordon 5 actually exists. With no copy having surfaced to this point, I'm pretty sure it was never published. The OA does exist and has been auctioned on Heritage. I don't believe CGC is willing to slab these sub only issues anymore, so a census count isn't possible.
  18. I know the feeling. When I finally stopped using Photobucket, I lost a bunch of scans.
