  1. I haven't done the scarcity index in a long time, but - and this is off the top of my head, mind you - here you go: By far the hardest to find: 1. Kid Colt 208 2. Weird Wonder Tales 15 Extremely difficult 3. Kid Colt 205 4. Kid Colt 206 5. Kid Colt 207 6. Kid Colt 209 7. Mighty Marvel Western 45 8. Rawhide Kid 133 9. Rawhide Kid 134 10. Ringo Kid 27 11. Ringo Kid 28 12. Two-Gun Kid 129 13. Two-Gun Kid 130 14. Two-Gun Kid 131 Show up but still rare 15. Chamber of Chills 22 16. Chamber of Chills 23 17. Jungle Action 22 <=== this is the first superhero book on the list 18. Jungle Action 23 19. Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos 133 20. Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos 134 21. Tomb of Darkness 20 22. Tomb of Darkness 21 23. Weird Wonder Tales 16 24. Weird Wonder Tales 17 25. Iron Man 89 A couple of quick notes. I have been looking for variants for 20 years in the wild (seriously!) and have never seen a Kid Colt 208. I bought mine as part of a buy from Fred McSurley in 2000. My Weird Wonder Tales 15 - which was the last one I needed for the set - came in a trade with departed board member Lighthouse in 2000. In the wild, I've only seen one Weird Wonder Tales 15 - the one I sold on eBay for $810 last year - and only one Kid Colt 205, which I bought for a dollar in 1999 and have had ever since. Here is my Kid-Colt 205, found in the Wild in San Jose. I thought we weren't supposed to talk about Price Variant Club That list is pretty solid Dan, only been chasing the set for 12 years, so my padawan opinions might move some books around here or there; I happen to think MOKF 39 (I have a beater so if anyone has one ) ahead of the Jungle Actions and Iron Man 89 (though IM 89 and DD 132 are the toughest A-list Super-Hero books) but again it might be a regional Maryland verses San Jose thing too. On the top 2 - yep. I was the under bidder on that WWT15 that hammered for $810, but then bought my copy for less than 1/2 that this year on EBAY (probably one grade lower than the $810 book) it really comes down to timing, but if you are in there with someone else and its the last one they need, the rulz kinda might not apply
  2. That's a nice Copy, Now sell me your Batman 225 to help lessen the blow
  3. The book on EBAY right now is owned by our very own Flying Donut had I not purchased this book last week (crazy no copies for public sale in like a year and two come up in same week - ah variant collecting) I would definitely be bidding on Donut's book. In general the non-super hero titles with smaller print runs, are harder to find, which makes sense; less printed less to be found. So Westerns and Horror and Sci-Fi books are more difficult than Spider-Man, DD, Cap and Thor. There is a scarcity index that was created on Stl Comics, in general its pretty solid. I don't know if anyone has done a top 10, I'd put Chamber of Chills 22 in the top 20.
  4. Quick payment, easy transaction as always.
  5. I've told this story a few times, but here is how I became a price variant collector. Around 2004, maybe 2005 I finished a BA RAW run in High Grade and I posted the books here. Not too many of us on the boards then, we were pretty much on a first name basis, most ppl had run into each other in person and were friends ... or not . Anyway I post my run, greggy probably makes some comment about them not being 100 pagers, bronzebruce applauds, though secretly thinks those are 9.6 copies and I poop on those. No matter, it was a certain flying circular ChiTown transplanted to Maryland who uttered a very simple phrase, 'including the Variants?' It was like a splinter entered my mind, Variants? Who gave a flying about the Variants? As the days went on, I did, that's who. The OCD comic geek in me went into over drive. My perfectly respectable Amazing Adventures run, an 11 in Raw 9.4/9.6 for sakes. And the Variants? It played over and over, NO I DIDN'T HAVE THE VARIANTS ....... YET. Anyway I got the Amazing Adventures Variants and a whole lot more. So this mini BA run is dedicated to the Flying one, ya dude, got the Variants. Thanks for listing the 132 a few years back.
  6. Great book! Where else could you get art and stories from legends like Everett and Wrightson in one book for 15 cents? We didn't know how lucky we were as kids back then! I wasn't born yet, but remember the first time I saw this book. Wrightson .... Marvel Comics ...
  7. Been a while since I posted in here, but will have some updates soon as I knocked out a few items on my want list. After buying a HG raw copy off Banner, I then proceeded to nab this book off Heritage. I know, I know, its a Marvel, but a rare Wrightson Marvel.
  8. You really need to read the FF 52 thread. And you may also want to read the GL 76 thread in the BA forum. Yes, there are some post-1965 issues that are relatively scarce in 9.8, but they never turn out to be all that scarce once there is some real financial incentive for more copies to appear. Time machine to tth2 circa 2004, 2005, 2006 .........
  9. Nice, I haven't seen many copies of this Hulk 35c around.
  10. I think pretty reasonable too, the variants that were listed, while nothing crazy hard to find were well bought.
  11. Been looking for this one for a few years in 'not beat to condition' Happy to add one of the more difficult ones to the collection and off the list.
  12. Yeah I believe there's two of them last time I checked. The first one was... 2010? And then another came along a few years ago. It reached its 'full potential' a few years ago I'm told

  14. It's pretty amazing how tough it is to find #86 in 9.4 or better. There are just 12 copies - 1 9.8, 4 9.6s, and 7 9.4s. For comparison purposes, DD #85 and 87 both have more than 60 copies in the census in 9.4 or better. There are constantly copies of 85 and 87 for sale. All the time. 86? It's been more than three years I just looked and 86 is only slightly easier than #7 (1 more copy in 9.4+), which I've already resigned myself to never being to upgrade. What do you have now Rob? For the 7? I have a 9.2. Ya, might be a bit of a wait on a 9.4 man, I'm happy with a 9.0. Best of luck hunting, that book is really tough in HG, understand the 86 has fewer copies, but I would also consider that the 7 is widely understood as a harder key and probably has more attempts so to me that further accentuates its standing as a tough in HG key book. Oh as an aside, if you do nab, one, think i might have a good home for your 9.2

  16. Here's my copy. If you ever have a second and wouldn't mind posting a close up of the top left corner (notorious for defects) I'd appreciate it as that book may have the best 'Avatar' region I've seen in a while. No problem ! There's definitely a small amount of color break on the top left edge, and a few extremely small color breaking stress marks on the spine where the avatar is, but it's pretty clean. Thanks for doing that, that is a very nice top left corner, I'd assume that the faint stress there is what kept it out of 9.6 because I can see little else that is not perfect on this book. Its like someone whacked all the DD 1s on the top left, in the Green area with a sand paper wrapped ruler. The 9.0 I bought has abrasion there, which is undoubted what kept it out of higher grades.

  18. Oh and Barton on your previous posting, I had a really hard time with the 39 and getting a copy with a nice color strike. This will be evident when I release my under copies - and sometimes over copies if Im keeping the Ped. in a FS thread soon.
  19. Integrity is simply not a word that applies very often in many contexts. While I was tempted to not post, lots of little human nature things at play here. The person who got was the OO at the garage sale, but if I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times, 'this hobby is founded on that principle." It's not like the big dealers, or you or I created these items, it is simply knowledge that translates to an ability to make $$$. I mean that said, I wish I knew as much about the stock market as I do about comics; brokers don't make anything they sell either, they just make money off of knowledge. How about the integrity of EBAY? I mean another point that has not been brought up is, this transaction takes place on their website, yet they take no action to protect their integrity, why is the seller allowed to reneg and then sell the slabs on EBAY's site? So all in all this is not exactly shocking, human nature, a bit of greed all the way around and its the lowest common denominator of integrity, or lack there of that wins the day. And honestly, if I'm placed in the position of EBAY, the seller, or the buyer, hard to say what any of us would have done. I sold a HG BA ASM few years back and missed the that it was a double cover sold it right on the boards for around $20, probably worth few hundred in a slab, obviously not the same $$$ differential but, hey I understood that it was my error and no hard feelings to the buyer, well done. Anyway over; this book moves me under 25 to go. Solid book, just a bit or ink over spray top left edge.
  20. There are more copies of DD 1 in High Grade for sale this month than there will be of 148 (35 cent) in any grade over the next 5 years.
  21. well i think there are a lot of copies coming out now and Rob and I had both been kind of circling that book for almost a year now I think. I find it kind of funny that we both purchased one the same week and would be curious to compare notes on how much money we made people at auction bidding on DD1s this year I think the 9.4 at Comic Connect is one of, if not the best copy I have seen from a production view point this year [i can say that I never had any intention of going into 5 figures for a DD 1, as of the three Marvel Keys I still need (ASM1 JIM 83) it is my least favorite] but the cut of that copy had me bidding in 5 figures. Whoever bought the Comiclink 8.5 got a nice deal. I was bidding a bit, but had 9.0 or better on my mind and didn't want to go through a .5 upgrade scenario. Well congrats Rob, nice to stop butting heads with you at auction as I think we are in the same boat, meaning only DDs I would consider now are maybe upgrades to some raw books of not as much significance where I could sell the under copy easily.
