Hi all. I've got a Batman 23, which I love! What I don't love, is the old case, which has scratches and so forth, and looks a bit dull. I'm considering sending it to CGC for a new holder. But then... as long as I'm sending to CGC anyway... I start thinking about if it's worthwhile to clean and press and hope for a higher grade. That's where I'm hoping some of you can help. I rely on CGC for grading because I'm no good at it! Obviously, we have a starting point. Once upon a time it was graded 5.0 with off white to white pages. Grader notes say: "Center front cover lite stain / Full center front cover large crease / Full right back cover lite multiple crease / Spine stress lines breaks color" Oddly, the notes make no mention of the 1/2 inch tear at the top of the spine. Please provide your thoughts. Would this book benefit from a clean and press? Or is it more likely to stay the same grade... or even to go down?! Thank you in advance for your time and input.

We're moving from "early" April into "mid" April. Any news/announcements on the horizon? Can we get a specific date? Thanks.

Hey Mike, Appreciate you answering my question about DC labels. Still doesn't make sense to me though that a deal can't be reached... but I understand CGC has tried, and feels it's DC's fault no deal has been reached. (... Although I would presume that DC feels it's CGC's fault!) Anyway... new question: WHY does CGC put that hologram label on the front side??? No one wants to see it. Yes, fine, it adds a little extra security. But it would do that just as well if it were placed where it should be... on the back! This oversight has only gotten more egregious since the custom labels began. Now, they are detracting from the artwork of the label... or in some cases... covering up the artwork! It makes no sense to do it this way. Please let me know CGC's rationale for continuing to place these hologram stickers on the front, and/or if anyone in charge over there is beginning to discuss moving them to the back? (I've attached a view images to get the idea of what I'm talking about in case it wasn't already clear.)

In your rush to dismiss and discredit what I wrote... you failed to understand what I wrote! You're not wrong about the facts. But you're wrong that anything I said is contrary to those facts. I believe you misinterpreted my example explanation to the previous poster as me saying that my wrap would ultimately become labeled "page 1" and "page 2" by CGC. That's not what I was saying though. I was just explaining that "page 1" would contain pages 1 and 2 (of the story); "page 2" would contain pages 3 and 4 (of the story); "page 3" would contain pages 5 and 6 (of the story)... etc. Except that an advertisement could throw off those numbers (as it relates to the numbered story pages). Perhaps I could have been more clear. But certainly... you could have taken a moment to try and see what I was getting at before busting out the finger shaking and head exploding emoticons!

Yes, PovertyRow, I suppose I'm referring to a leaf as per your definition. But CGC refers to it as a "page" although of course it is really 2 pages (one on the front side and one on the back side). And this is different than a "wrap" which is 2 pages (really 4 pages) connected together. My goal is to separate the wrap into 2 parts; whereby CGC will label each part a "page" and I want to do so without any purple or green labels. As CGC does it, they would encase pages 1 and 2 (front and back side of the same 'leaf') and call it "page 1". Then they would take the leaf containing pages 3 and 4 and call it "page 2" etc. etc. So excluding Advertisement pages which could throw it off, if you see a CGC case for "page 5 only" you would find pages 9 and 10 of the comic there.

Can someone at CGC update us on if there are any ongoing talks with DC about potential custom labels using those characters? Feels like it would be a win for DC, CGC and customers looking for Batman/Superman/Wonder Woman/Flash etc. labels! How has a deal on this possibly not gotten done yet???

Thank you Danno616. Appreciate the thorough response! Personally, I don't understand why any auction site wouldn't want to give, and especially LINK, their sales data. It's free advertising! Be it a high price OR a low price, you'd get people clicking the link to check out the particular book to see why it went for so much (or so little). Either way, that's traffic going directly to their website. As for auction houses not wanting to show lower than FMV sales... that too is actually counter-intuitive. If people think they can get a "deal" at a particular auction house, it will drive more buyers there... which in turn will RAISE the prices... which in turn will drive more sellers to auction their books there. Rinse and repeat. So from a business standpoint... as far as I can tell... it makes absolutely no sense for an auction house not to participate in giving GPA their sales data.

For example, if I buy or sell a CGC book at a convention, can I go home and input that data into GPA? I don't mean, update my personal collection on their website... I mean, indicate the date, and the serial number of the comic, and the sale price, so that they update their data for all to see? BTW... while this would be useful if everyone were honest, we know everyone is NOT. So I'm hoping the answer is NO. The reason I'm asking is because I wonder about some of the sales data I see there. Some can be confirmed by direct link (Heritage and ComicConnect, for example); some can be found from eBay past sales (albeit without a direct link). But other books listed as having been sold at such and such price, be it way higher than expected -or way lower than expected- can't be confirmed anywhere. Which leads me to wonder if it's possible some people are gaming the most recent sales data by inputting their own sales. I wish ComicLink would include their data. And I wish all the data that was included had a direct link. Because sometimes a book seems off, but then you see the particular copy and understand why it went for way less.

I suppose ripping it by hand would keep me clear of any purple or green labels, right? But it's certainly not going to come out looking as clean that way! Maybe I can fold it back and forth a hundred times until it basically falls apart at the natural crease? Very frustrating to not get any policy guidelines, help or advice from CGC on this.

I agree Doug. I'm asking CGC about CGC's policy and being told that CGC can't "assist" with that. Very strange indeed!

Okay. Thanks Matt. Now... Since CGC won't give a direct answer on this, I open it back up to the community: Can anyone here add their advice and/or experience with this? I'm looking for the "cleanest" way to divide the wrap, but it's very important to me that the page avoid getting the dreaded purple or green label, and I don't want any notation about it having been "trimmed" or any other such thing. Not sure why CGC won't explain the parameters around what to do or not to do... but hopefully someone here can help!

Ouch DougC. Yes, that's exactly the nightmare scenario I'm trying to avoid! I have indeed posted the same question in the "Ask CGC" section, but it's still "pending approval." We'll see what they say. And I like your idea of printing it out and sending it in, that way, so long as I follow their advise, then I feel like I've got a good argument against anyone there trying to hit me with the purple label. Thanks for the input.
