  1. No, these are scans of the full pages from the comics. I did have to do a lot of cleaning up in photoshop. By old papers, do you mean the John Carter newspaper strip?
  2. Good question. Maybe they thought it would be better to make it look like he was leaping in to remind people of his super jumping ability.
  3. Glad you guys are enjoying it. I thought doing it in installments would be fun. Like our own Gold forum daily strip.
  4. This is really great stuff. Thank you BZ and BB for sharing these early fanzines and APAs. Any ideas who the profiteering dealer is that JB is talking about?
  5. Good to know there's some interest. Here's another four pages for the weekend. With this issue, John Coleman Burroughs takes over the artwork.
  6. How about a four-page weekend editon? The Funnies 33 (August 1939)
  7. That's a great point about the Classics Illustrated prototype, tb. This is a an adaptation of A Princess of Mars. Are there any earlier original adaptations of a novel in comic book form? Large Feature 5 adapts Tarzan of the Apes, but it's a reprint of the 1929 strip. Wonderland of Oz was also being adapted in the Funnies around this time, but it's a strip reprint as well. The King of the Royal Mounted Large Feature 9 was 1940.
  8. Not sure if anyone here heard about it, but long-time Robert E. Howard fan, scholar, literary agent, and publisher Glenn Lord passed away on New Year's Eve. He was one of the few people promoting REH's work in the 50's and 60's when most people had forgotten it. It was Lord that sold the Conan rights to Roy Thomas for the Marvel series. His passing is a great blow to REH fandom and created a void that can't be filled. RIP
  9. BTW, I was remiss in giving credit to Bob (Dell4C) who provided some of the scans for this project and Rich (Yellowkid) who donated an issue to the cause. Thanks guys!
  10. The artist for 30-33 wasn't credited, but it was probably Jim Gary. With issue 34 ERB's son John Coleman Burroughs took over for the rest of the series.
