  1. I didn't know you had any Phantagraphs BZ. Do you have the Hyborian age issues too?
  2. I believe there are five stages one goes through when first acquiring BZMCAS or BangZoom Magnificent Collection Awareness Syndrom: 1. Denial - "Those are facsimile dust jackets, right?" 2. Anger - "Dammit! Why can't my pulps be flawless and newstand fresh!" 3. Bargaining - "Ok, maybe if I scour eBay and Craiglist everday for the rest of my life and win the lottery. . ." 4. Depression - "I'll never own the first issue of Weird Tales!" 5. Acceptance - "Let's see what wonderful item BZ's posted today."
  3. Believe me, you're not the first to come in, discover Bangzoom's thread, and then lose several days of your life. What page are you up to?
  4. Tough book! That was from the Darrell Richardson collection, iirc.
  5. Pat, thanks for posting those Brundage illos. I didn't realize she did interiors either. Very cool. On Brundage originals, I got to see two at an exhibit in Orlando a couple of years ago. Here's was my blog post on it: http://www.thecimmerian.com/maidens-and-monsters-masters-of-science-fiction-and-fantasy-art-on-display/ Heritage has also sold a few: http://www.ha.com/common/search_results.php?Nty=1&Ntk=SI_Titles&N=790+231+52&Ntt=brundage&Ns=Price%7C1
  6. He did quite of few of these anthologies around this time. There were two others illustrated with Coye's scratchboard work: Who Knocks? (1946) and The Night Side (1947). Of course you can probably guess which story I picked up this book for:
  7. Here's the interesting discussion in a 1940's zine on early comics that included Derleth. This was originally posted by Bob Beerbohm a few years ago: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Board=15&Number=1834967&Searchpage=1&Main=102852&Words=derleth&topic=0&Search=true#Post1834967
  8. Another recent pickup, from the Jerry Weist auction. Early Solomon Kane cover.
  9. That's one I still need. I've said it before in this thread, but I'll say it again, If you've never read REH's humorous works, like the Sailor Steve Costigan boxing stories (or the Breckinridge Elkins western yarns) you're missing out. They're very different in tone from Conan or his other weird fiction and they're really funny.
  10. It's already been done (basically). I was turned onto this book in the GA forum and have nothing to do with this eBay listing - but would highly recommend it to anyone interested. I think the guy only has a few left. I highly recommend it as well. It's an amazing snapshot of the dawn of fandom.
  11. Bob Beerbolm posted some very cool correspondence from Derleth and a group of Comic strip historians from the 40's. I'll see if I can find it tomorrow with the search engine.
  12. This thread has been dormant too long. Time to whip it back in to shape.
  13. Welcome Xaltotun! Glad you signed up. For those that don't know, the Action Stories with REH content like the one above are highly sought after and tough as hell to find. Xaltotun is also being modest. He's one of the top REH scholars in the world and has an amazing collection---hopefully we'll see some more.
  14. Not in great shape but a fun anthology of horror stories from WT edited by August Derleth and published in 1944. No funny animal cannibalism though.
  15. Is that Calkins? That's really cool, Billy---I've never seen that one either.
  16. I just got mine too. I wish it were chronological too, but since the stories are stand-alone I guess it's okay. Mainly I wanted to start reading the stories to my 4-year old daughter who has been enjoying Prince Valiant and Little Nemo. My 7-year old son, who I know would enjoy reading these, has no interest in comics at all---only video games. Anyway tonight I started reading "Voodoo Hoodoo" to my daughter and my son heard me mention zombies and got interested. I asked him to keep reading it to his sister while I went to do a couple of things around the house. When I came back a while later, my daughter was off doing something else and he was buried in the book reading voraciously. Victory!
  17. Congrats! I was the underbidder on the MC. Glad it went to fellow boardie. (thumbs u
