  1. This is actually one of the tamer ones. Some of the other covers from this series have some great GGA.
  2. This thread needs to resurrected! Here is a fun little $5 pick-up off ebay. In the late 40's Avon started reprinting a number of old Weird Tales stories in it's Avon Fantasy Reader series edited by Donald Wollheim (it's a digest-sized pulp). Several REH stories were reprinted in the series, such as "A Witch Shall be Born" as you can see here. Once again we have the Greco-Roman looking Conan that was popular with some artists in the pre-Frazetta days - a look that REH himself hated. BTW,The Lovecraft story in this one is "The Statement of Randolph Carter."
  3. Congrats Dwight! That is a sweet cover! I think that is really cool that you're trying to put an original collection back together - good luck!
  4. Senegaeht think this am best book ever!
  5. Sth..steag...spteh... damn, I'm just spitting all over my screen.
  6. Nice! I'd love to pick up some Buscema/Alcala SSOC pages from early in the run. I'm re-reading these stories for the first time since I was kid with the Dark Horse reprints and I'm just blown away.
  7. Here's the link for the lazy ones: http://cgi.liveauctions.ebay.com/124-Frazetta-Thunda-1-7pgs-1952-original-comic-art_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ28266QQihZ007QQitemZ170229107702QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW There are seven Thunda pages total for that 100K. I wish I was rich.
  8. Wow, that is awesome! My Father's Day present was the Frazetta signed/numbered Lord of the Rings Portfolio from the 70's. That is about as close as I will ever come to owning original Fritz.
  9. Great brundage group shot! Some of her most classic covers!
  10. Any thoughts on how the film Metropolis influenced comics and pulps? I just watched it for yhe zillionth time. I watched Metropolis a couple of times and read the original novel. I agree with the art deco comment that someone else made but streamlining was supposed to be futuristic. You can see the effect in early Shuster work. Pretty nice stuff. I don't think we saw a robot like the one in the movie, in the comics very often. I thought the movie had some social commentary that was pro labor union and I am suprised it wasn't smashed by the US Industrial/Military Establishment. It needs to be updated with color and sound but perhaps the Blade Runner had a similar theme without the obvious socialism. bb Actually IIRC the version originally released in America was heavily edited.
  11. Glad you gave me the heads up on the auctions. Thanks again! Only two Tarzan covers left! (or four if you count 1 and 2 - still not sure if I'm going to pursue those- we'll see)
  12. I agree. I can't believe the bright colors on this book. Simply beautiful! Thanks guys. Yeah, the 47 has higher technical grade, but the colors on the 43 really pop.
  13. Won some nice Tip Tops Sunday and they already got here today! White pages on all of them - I'm very tempted to crack them The 50 is actually the 2nd highest graded even at 5.0 - it's definately the toughest of the later issues to find for some reason and often has fading problems. The 47 cover is a blown up Foster panel.
  14. Nice colors! A lot of Fine covers posted in the last day or two.
  15. Awesome Sickles page! You can really see how much influence he had on Caniff. Love the Moreira Tarzan too! I have to admit, I've always kind of glossed over his work and never really pay attention to it, but now I see what I've been missing. Very cool!
