  1. says who, maybe the dealer has books i want and will pick up off their site later. plus i can send other people their way who are looking for the types of books they carry. any dealers i've had good experances with i've always gone back and look at their stuff 1st, that's how you make connections. i always try to buy at least something off thoes i know and have been rewarded in kind through discounts bc of repeat business, in my example seeing the guy make a deal would put him in my mind of willing to deal and to go back. after demanding payment in a deal i had nothing to do with i'd tell everyone about it. there's a dealer who i don't think hits shows anymore who i found annoying and i always skipped over his booth bc of it and i've seen him try his snakeoil bs when buying off someone and that was a turn off as well. if his name comes up you don't think i kept quite about it? you're not wrong either though, that's why i said i agree and disagree......i can see both points
  2. basicly kav and while you could prob figure it out i'll do a action by action i want a book signed, i go to cgc and ask for a wittness. then me and the wittness walk to the artist to either get the book signed or pick up a sketch, i pay any money owed to the artist. i and the wittness then walk back to cgc's booth to fill out any paperwork and pay moneys to get my book graded under SS
  3. no, cgc got out of being the middle man yrs ago.........cgc is only the wittness, in reality they have no interaction with the signer at all. if money is owed the person getting the book signed is the one who pays out, the cgc rep is basicly the watcher
  4. and you know this how......the problem is when cgc goes to cons they do in fact take in i'd say at min 1k books, at philly last yr wasn't it like 2-3k books or more? also your assuming that the book/s signed didn't have meny other copies signed that day so to know excatly who to contact could be a problem as well
  5. i agree and don't agree, odd i know the problem is and this is an example. i watch a friend and a dealer make a deal on a book and my friend says they need to use an ATM or whatever, later the dealer then comes up to me and demands i pay for the book. the deal was between the owner of the book and jim, not between jim and cgc so really it isn't cgc's responsiblity to make sure a deal is completed (this is assuming a cgc rep was there when the deal was made AKA that he was aware money was owed) if anything jim should take this as a learning exp. 1 to find out how SS works instead of all the 2nd hand info he's getting, and 2 collect the money up front. to me he's basicly throwing a hissy fit over most likely $20 or whatever i'm not saying cgc is in the clear bc as kav stated they could have handeled it slightly differently, but again starlin is upset bc he didn't get paid and didn't like the answer cgc gave him which is his right
  6. oh not argueing the price increase itself, i can understand why it came about (i never want to see bills increased though), and as i addmitted that example of it slowing by alot or stopping altogether was an extreme example based on what someone else said. do i actully think it will slow, yes. by a large margin, no or not enough that the price increase will be seen as detramental yes you're right, they are books i wouldn't norm send in depending on price of slabbing......who cares about a SiP 9.8 run except for #1, same for liberty meadows (any of them really).......80's teen titans is a maybe. i know i'll never see a return on them but it was worth it to me, at 20+ a book it's not what does the invoice fee matter on if it's filled out by you or them, unless it's with SS stuff i've always filled it out myself so i'm sorry but i don't see your point on this, $5 was bs and 8 is even more so people collect and slab weird things at times.....thoes looking for the HG star books i think are insane bc who cares about strawberry shortcake, foo fur, and whatever else. i understand why there sought after (low print run, HTF in HG) but to them it's worth it, to me i see it as gradeing useless books. everyone has their price point, mine is 20 appearently on books for my collection
  7. did it though wizard for yrs, then only at shows bc of that bs from fee.......my last 2 i went to my LCS and got the paper form and sent myself, i do not have a paid account and my LCS wouldn't let me sub under his bc i don't use CCS for pressing and in trun he didn't want to take a chanch on a problem ariseing and him being at fault. i would never blame him as i'm very honest but i also can't blame him and wanting to be involved in problems that aren't of his makeing as i posted on FB moderns run me around 750/800 per order, and 1974 and below run me close to 1k........so yes a $2 increase adds up. again as i hardly sell those costs are not offset by anything. sadly even when my orders have books to sell i tend to just sit on them for no real reason other then procrastination, and made a mistake think this current order has 4-5 books to sell out of 25 which is alot honestly when it's norm 0-2 books for sale
  8. 20 + 8 (form fee), send in 25 like i do and thats an extra 53 (that's not a small amt).........as someone pointed out they hope the useless subs slow down or stop. that basicly kills their main source of income if they slow/stop (i know i'm useing an extreme for an example). for myself i'll have to decide if i care about haveing this set or that set in 9.8 like i was working towards since i hardly ever sell my books, so no offseting the price in my case by selling you're correct, but it will do something long term and i doubt it will cause people to send in more. for my sets in all honesty they aren't worth getting slabbed to anyone but me and at 20+ per book cgc isn't getting them anymore, that's well over 200 books, add that up across the board and it equals alot of money they are now missing out on. for myself thoes books will go to "them" instead. personaly i will need to decide on keep/sell and only send the sell pile to cgc and out of the 1k+ books i have for possible gradeing only prob 20 or so are for selling. if anything cgc with this price increase is ignoreing the bulk aspect of selling which seems to bring more money long term compare that to the competition where it's 16 with no fee and they do a compareable job to CGC, personaly i will always go the route of a smaller bill. i don't use CCS for this reason on blue label books, there are places to get the same quality job done for cheaper........................the only time i use CCS is when a book is getting SS and i don't really have a choice who goes "i wish my bill was higher." i'll put it just in case, i'm not talking about PGX when i refer to "them" and such
  9. um while i'm no expert on the #'s cgc does under each teir, isn't modern subs basicly their bread & butter..........so if modern subs slow down then they lose money. not sure about you but that sounds like a bad deal long term since 99.9% of modern stuff isn't worth it
  10. went to a show today didn't buy much but at least one really nice book, the ghost rider 1 is low end 8.5, high end 9.4
  11. there are 2, best part is they're about 10min from dorney so during the summer i'll hit them till around noon then spend the rest of the day at the park
  12. considering how sh**ty that show was last yr i'll prob be skipping........felt more like a fleamarket then a comic show do you ever hit the 2 local shows in allentown?
  13. hmmmm mail me some fruity drinks, long island ice tea or twisted tea and i'll call us even

  15. thor 430 cap 289, 291 new mutants 29, 34b, 36b, 44 avengers 338, 355, 371, 372, 385 ff 222
  16. printed list from word but only take that to cons/shows......norm print a new one every 6mo/1yr depending on how meny books i've grabbed and cluttered it becomes with notes and scribbles. it's up to date on what i've picked up already but have to wait for a new print out for anything newly added (the drawback) i also keep a copy on my phone with an app that will open word doc's incase i'm out and run into books or fell like box diveing at my LCS imo the phone is a bad idea at cons/shows bc of battery.......whats the point of it if your phone needs to be charged half way through the day and instead of enjoying the con/show your stuck next to a wall waiting on your phone to charge. personaly i have a pocket battery that i could hook it up to if needed but not a fan of carrying it around

  18. just got it in as a xmas gift to myself deathstroke 14 pg11 http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=1368565 for fun on somethings like OA or covers i'll come up with something fun to describe what's going on this one is either "deathstrokes a person_without_enough_empathy", or "her pimp hand is strong" can anyone tell me who she is?
  19. theres nothing wrong with "look at the pics" thing if done correctly. granted i haven't sold on ebay in a long time but i would note if all defects could be seen in the pics or would say something along the lines of "defects x, y, z can't be seen in the scan". in my case yes it was laziness bc why point out something people can see quite clearly, if it couldn't be seen then it's my responsiblity to point thoes issues out my scans are done on the same scanner as my cgc books (have had people tell me how they love how clear/crisp my images are so i'm guessing they are good), hell after a scan i've noticed issues with a book i didn't see while holding it
  20. ASM 2 a good? go higher it's got an extra corner, makes it extra rare
