  1. Wow! What a nice piece!  I like how the paneling and use of distance almost make him jump through time!  Very detailed too. So cool!

Working on this Wolvy at the moment. Just a rough in at the moment. I'll prob try to ink it, see what happens ?  Curious his lower jaw seems missing, which I can't unsee now.  😁

  2. I draw from comic images in my free time, whatever strikes me as a challenge or whose style or imagery seems unique or unforgettable.

It has me thinking. . .is there a single comic panel that stands above all the rest for you? There are iconic artists and covers, but what about THE iconic storyline moment for you in all of comics?

Share images if you have one.

One that comes to mind for me is from the BPRD Hell on Earth series and Johann Kraus.

  3. I found this on the bottom of a stack during an antiquing expedition. I notice light color breaking at spine and bindery tears at top and bottom corners. Comic seems new inside, is flat, and presents well. Appreciate your grade and some elaboration on what you think draws the grade down and if pressed and clean what the max grade might be. Thanks!

  4. Anyone know what these markings could mean?  They look to be replaced as the book moved around.  Maybe a zip code or country code, but a quick search shows that might put you on an island in the middle of the Pacific!

Kinda on the path to what you might be looking for.  You can set to List View and get the titles, then expand that to see the issue numbers.  Similarly, you can leave it in the default view and see the different covers.

That's cool. It would be nice to have your actual comic images and a condition rating with filters for era, condition range.  For instance looking for Bronze Age rated 9.0 and above, etc

I was half expecting a slideshow where you swipe left or right to go through pictures of books. But having a scrollable database is cool, too.

Like Tinder for comics?  Good idea. 😁 Just looking for a way to share collection lists with each other and came up with this for now.  Saves posting individual issues or searching want lists, etc

Great question.   Here's my thoughts after 12 years of chasing MJ's in the DC titles of Batman, Detective, Superman, Action and Justice League of America:

    1.  Prices are all over the map.  Sometimes the jeweler variant adds no value (but does seem to make a comic book more "sellable") but if the two or more nutcases like me really want the comic book, prices could go for 20 times more than guide (the most memorable for me was a vgFN JLA 107 that I lost in a bid for approximately $100... still wishing I went higher on that auction... a regular JLA 107 in vgFN would be lucky to sell for $5).

    2. All jeweler variants were sold in military PX's or other similar venues, so they were sold like other newsstand issues (i.e., on comic or magazine racks).  So the higher graded jewelers (especially 9.2 and above) seem to sell well at reasonable prices.   They are only very rarely seen in 9.8.

    3.  It seems like the premium for a jeweler variant gets magnified with key issues (Batman 251 with the Joker cover seems like a good example).

Found these DC's Mark Jewelers in my collectionPXL_20231127_032012264.thumb.jpg.ebf2f8ceb115669024a2231eb42bc571.jpg

Are Mark Jewelers inserts really all that significant? Or does it depend on the comic issue in question?

I'd be interested in other opinions, but there was a lower number of issues created and they are no longer made which makes them less common and in the right market they will be valued more, especially key stories or titles (X-Men).  That Joe Fixit might be a 2x to 4x the price compared to its direct or newsstand copy.  More common issues might see a small boost in value but can be comparable to a Newsstand.

It wound up being a 1-shot, although it wasn't intended as such.  It's essentially Youngblood #3.  Several cover variations exist, I believe all with Alex Ross Suprema art.  The version I've got:

Interesting!  I didn't realize that was Alex Ross either, very clean covers though. I read it and the story was open ended, but my go to source was not reporting a #2. Thanks for solving that mystery for me.
