The seller doesn't grade this book but does use the eBay label "Brand New" and the description compared to the image ...

For CGC grading, they have documented that a 1" corner crease on the front cover maxes the grade at 8.0 (8.5 on the back cover). I personally have a very nice book marred only by a 3/4" front corner crease that got an 8.5. So I'm guessing that a 1/2" crease would max you out at 9.0, but it's just a guess.

Long time collector, new to the boards. I have been purchasing raw silver age lots from Heritage for the past couple months. I have found their grading all over the place. Not just in bad way. I realize with large lots you get a generally average. I even had a lot of 1960's Superman that came from Mile High at one point and the old Mile High grading was still on the bags (and correct to me) but the Heritage grade was a full grade higher. I also had a lot of 60's Batman that I graded a full grade higher than the Heritage grade. Is it always a bit of a shoot with Heritage. Or is just a rare occurrence? Thanks, Den
I've bought a lot of SA lots from Heritage and have the same experience as you. Generally OK, but outliers both ways.

Pretty severely. If the crease was just on the cover, 6.0, but probably as low as 4.0 because it looks like it affects every page.
-
Looks like it might have a light stacking band, which would limit it to 9.4 disregarding any other defects.
-
For a CGC grade, you can actually get a 9.8 with a "small", unobtrusive store stamp, although I suspect that might apply only to vintage books. No one knows exactly what "small" is, though, except CGC. Very doubtful it could be cleaned.

Have a few MJ 'variants' across a few genres. But one of them has a label affixed. I'm not really asking for a grade on this particular book, but I'm wondering what CGC does with such a label. That is, how much is it relevant to the overall grade?
An address sticker on the cover will max you out at an 8.0 according to CGC's grading book.

8.0 with that scratch.

7.0, maybe 7.5 with a press. I think the crease on the right front edge is the limiting factor.

Six points this round - 17 total. One bullseye, three off by one, and 3 off (low) on the Lois Lane. Waiting for the dreaded round 4!

Submitted. I feel like this round was easier than the last, so I will probably do twice as bad!

Escaped disaster! 6 pts with 2 bullseyes and 2 one off, but Mopsy 1 wounded me with 4 pts. I was so focused on the missing piece I completely missed the stain right above it.

Hi, i am a newbie at this, so i was wondering if i could get some insight. Let's say i have a comic that would be a 9.8 if it did not have this one flaw. The one flaw is a spine tear at the bottom of the book about 1in long. How far down would this flaw bring it to? An 8.0? A 7.0?
The book in question is a Thunderbolts #110 2nd print variant. I am trying to see if it is worth me sending it in. Thanks in advance for your insight.
Per CGC's grading book, the max grade for a 1" spine split is 7.0.

This is a very low price for an ASM 238, about $500 lower than the most recent lowest, according to GoCollect. But I think it's also a gift 9.8, with at least 2 spine ticks and a corner crease. Reholder scam possibility?
