And thank you!
I like a lot of what Detroit is doing -- and if you're a Lions fan too, I was rooting for you guys in the playoffs as well! It's tough to be a Sox fan these days -- our team has been in shambles for a while.
I feel for you - you're in a Tiger's fan usual situation!

Had dreams of 6th place but .... shiftyeyes. I'm doomed.

2 bullseyes (Flash and SW), 1 over on the other three for 3 pts total. I usually undergrade, so I overcompensated.

Congratulations!
I have been an old school grading for years. I think CGC soften up on the grading because of two recent incidents but I don't know.
Yeah, it was mostly luck because I usually can't figure out what else CGC likes or hates.

Who are three people have the wild grade estimate upon Marvel Spotlight #6?
It's a sheer luck!!!
I was one. I'm of the opinion that CGC is relatively tolerant of shadows.

Four points with two bullseyes. Got 2 points on Transformers as I guessed 9.8, being lenient on the spine ticks as I thought CGC was going that way. Not this time!

Submitted. All of you long-time grading experts need to understand what it's like for us grading-challenged newbies:
Day 1 - get grades from previous contest, be disgusted with your estimates, or complain about the harshness or leniency of the graders. Sulk before bedtime and consider quitting the hobby altogether.
Day 2 - wake up to a new day with renewed optimism. Completely reread the CGC grading book defects section.
Day 3 - exhaustively research high-res scans of CGC books at Heritage looking for flaws similar to those in the contest books.
Day 4 - submit grades and hope for the best!

I might have hit it out of the park this round.

After losing out on the Heritage CGC 9.8 (who am I kidding, the price soared before I could even bid) I consoled myself with this eBay acquisition. Probably been posted here dozens of times already, but it's one of my favorite covers. Donald has excellent height on his swing. Oh, and I hear it might be a key as well.

Actually - in the CGC Guide to Grading Comics by Matt - they do state that miswraps peak at 9.8

I suspect they have a tolerance for declaring a miswrap. You can't just say zero or nothing would be above a 9.8. Based on the ToD example, 2mm perhaps?

I don't have any professionally graded comics yet; I'm selecting ones for my first submission currently.
Since I don't have many candidates for high grades, I don't have anything to compare at the level of detail I'm inspecting at.
Which brings me to my question... note these pictures are through a 30x glass, and there is a mm tape measure for scale.
How much would these knock me down? Obviously with the book in question, it doesn't take much to knock it down to not worth submitting...
You will usually get away with minor damage to the spine corners as that is usually attributed to production bindery damage. The damage on these spine corners is probably more than minor, though. The smallest crease you can see with the naked eye on the right corners will usually knock you down to at best a 9.6. You don't have close-ups of those but it looks like there is some damage there as well. So I agree it is probably not worth grading.

It presents well in the holder, but I've found very few CGC graded books that were actually graded too harshly...

The seller doesn't grade this book but does use the eBay label "Brand New" and the description compared to the image ...
