  1. Interesting question, but the OP list is way too restrictive. It is the hard to beat list for the category "American super heroes" but not a list for a broad definition of comics. What about manga, or European comics, or newspaper comics... ? I'd like to think that the world will manage to be a bit more internationalist by the 4000s.
  2. Here's another Australian jungle GGA title. Sheena had a longer run in Australia (at least 21 issues) than in the US (18 issues). For a look inside it was hard to go past this gladitorial zebra scene! (Sorry about the scan quality.)
  3. Outside an aeroplane to inside an aeroplane
  4. Rats - the time zone difference is killing me here. Would have loved some of those low number Animal Comics - but it's nice to see them going to good homes.
  5. Oh, that would be very nice. But I'd settle for the OA of the cover - one of my all-time favourites.
  6. A Thrilling publication to Thrilling, a publication
  7. It has been a variable week in the mailbox as far as comic book themes go. We're back to the jungle with this very, very nice copy of the Australian series of Jungle Comics. Given the quality of the 1-10 run I got from Cheetah, I now consider it my duty to build as high grade a run of this book as I can. When this one I didn't have popped up on eBay there was only going to be one winner, anatomically incorrect pentadactyl lion or not... Now, it might be just my slightly pervy Wertham-worthy imagination at work here, but does Anne's shadow in the second panel look like it's doing a striptease reveal?
  8. Could I please take Animal Comics 24, 25 and 26 and the freebie 22. Dont worry, they will ship to a US address. And @sagii and @OtherEric might be interested in some of the LTMM.
  9. I picked up a nice copy of an Australian reprint of Uncle Scrooge #11, with a cover image adapted from panels in the story. And how good is this panel of the Cotton Queen being raised with inner tubes and baling wire?
  10. 5.0 At this rate if you get 10 more grade estimates it will be a 10.0!

    Christmas Parade #1

Walt Kelly liked this idea so much he did it four times! See also Pogo Possum #11, WDC&S #39 and 76.

    Peanuts 02 (Four Color 969)

Yep - I had to have them all! The strong single colours and bold line work on the covers are a winner.
  13. Let the grade of a comic be denoted by 9.x, where x is a variable in the set {2,4,6,8}... I just wish my collection was as variable as yours Rich!
  14. I think the explanation is in Barrier's book. Someone at Dell thought that Harpy was a slang term for a prostitute and requested the change.
  15. not sure about that middle symbol Steve... Anyhoo, here's a book I bought a few months back but forgot to post here. Something I didn't plan to buy, but I bid on a whim when it popped up on a Heritage auction. Unusually for me it's staying in the slab, at least for now. I think Albert is meant to look friendly on this cover, but it looks for all the world like he's about to eat Churchy... Other than the high grade, one reason it can stay in the slab is that @OtherEric kindly uploaded a copy to the Digital Comics Museum, which lets me read it and extract some inner pages for us to enjoy. TBH, I can't get excited about it as a read, other than the Pogo story. Even then, this is early Pogo, complete with accented dialogue that Walt Kelly would later apologise for. It's not without a crude charm though. Here are the first and last pages. (lots of mayhem about preparing for a storm between these)
  16. Here are some bound volumes I had made up by the local bookbinder that does the Australian Parliament records. They did a lovely job (as you'd expect). I had all of the Gemstone Weird Science Fantasy and Incredible Science Fiction copies put into one volume. There was plenty of room for some more, so I added various other copies, such as Impact #1 and this one: That volume is redundant now that the Fantagraphics/Dark Horse hardcover series has covered those titles in larger size and with better paper stock, but it's still nice. The other volumes I had done (GA purists please turn away now) was the final 35 issues of Neil Gaiman's Sandman series. I started buying the floppies around #38 and have reprinted volumes of the earlier ones, but these cover the last few story arcs. They are a much better way to reread this series than either floppies or trades. And #75 The Tempest is one of my favourite comics of all time, so it's great to have it in such a nice format.
