  1. Nicely done, Jim. Timely fans everywhere salute this run.
  2. Speaking of not being able to resist when a copy within my budget presented itself... Syd Shores certainly did a lot of fun covers.
  3. Wonderful book, counselor! Sort of wish the redhead didn't make a cover appearance on this one. Sure makes it a tougher issue to attain these days
  4. Nicely done sir. Congrats on such a great book! ...and I like the sticker, too.
  5. Well you certainly came in with a bang. Congrats on such a cool comic!
  6. Nicely done on the Zip, Jim. I like that one a lot! I agree on the Blue Ribbon Mr Justice covers. I wouldn't mind collecting a few more books from the run (but of course I can say that about quite a few titles). But then again, if you're right that the title is a little more accessible than say, Peps, Zips, or Hangmans...
  7. My latest MLJ acquisition. I've seen this cover a number of times, and never thought much more than it just being a likable enough early MLJ with Rang-a-Tang the Wonder Dog and a couple green guys on the cover who would probably show up on some Timely covers down the road. I'm embarrassed to say somehow it never dawned on me (until after I bought it) that the "famous movie star" mentioned in the fine print on the cover is obviously Charlie Chaplin, whose film "The Great Dictator," a parody of Hitler, was released in October 1940, a few months after this comic hit the stands.
  8. Correct on the first 5. Good guess, but the actress in the upper right is not Joanne Dru.
  9. Here's a modest copy of a Cole romance/teen humor cover. Pop quiz: The year is 1950. Name the six movie stars on the cover.
  10. Very nice, Russ. I can't think of many that are better.
  11. Thanks for sharing the original art for the Moon Girl story. Very cool stuff. Plus I've never seen a Moon Girl story before. She seems to remind me just a bit of some other superheroine ...can't quite put my finger on who, though.
  12. I've always liked a number of the Sensations around this time period also. I didn't think I'd ever have anything to show in this thread, but when I saw this at SpringCon last week (rough edges and all)......
  13. Nicely done on the FF 209. Since Gary Dahlberg would have only been about five years old when this hit the stands, it will be interesting to see if any other TC pedigree books surface which beat or even come close to the age of this one.
  14. I love it when this thread gets bumped. Another pedigree book finds its way home to Riverdale.
  15. Very nice! Certainly a lot of great funny books being posted the last few days. I recognize the better-know characters: Li'l Abner, Mammy and Pappy Yokum, Tarzan?, Fritzi Ritz, Nancy, and the Katzenjammer kids. Who are some of the others? Abbie and Slats, Broncho Bill, Joe Jinks, Billy Make Believe, Little Mary Mixup, Benny, Ella Cinders, The Captain, and a couple short features inside Thanks Bill. I think I should have known Abbie and Slats, but the strips I've seen always seemed to feature "Bathless" Groggins as the main character.

  17. Here's a link to a recent news story about George Lindsey donating his now-bronzed Goober hat to the Andy Griffith Museum in Mount Airy. The museum director said Lindsey got the idea from the hat garage mechanics used to wear. That picture of Goober in the link from adamstranges's post sure looks a lot like a 1940's Jughead, though. http://www.mtairynews.com/view/full_story/9672532/article-Lindsey-donates-Goober’s-hat?instance=secondary_news_left_column
  18. Why haven't you sold those to Russ? A number of reasons. Haven't had a chance to show them to Russ. He probably already has better copies. And most importantly, I kind of like having them in my collection.
  19. Cool cover on the Zip 7. Pre-dates Biro's Crime Does Not Pay title by a couple years, too.
  20. This thread has been dormant way too long. Here's a couple modest Zip's. Anyone else?
  21. Interesting three page article on Lily Renee in the August 9th Newsweek. http://www.newsweek.com/2010/07/30/a-real-life-comic-book-superhero.html
