I am actually grading my entire 42,000 issue collection for insurance purposes. So not really a situation where I would want to do a lot of research for each issue. I have been using comicspriceguide.com but interested in using the more venerable Overstreet name, if I can figure out how to handle the grades it does not list.
I recomend using https://collectinsure.com/what-we-insure . It will only be necessary to list expensive books. Good company.

It's possible that the book was recently graded enough that it has not been loaded onto the system yet.

Long story short, my LCS submitted one of my more precious books from a batch for pressing and re-grading that was only meant to be submitted for a reholder with a Marvel label. Worst part of it is that the book is a $2500 book already already in CGC 9.8. Whoops.
I don't even want to get into the if's or what's about it again since I'm trying my best to sleep at night . But wondering if at any point during this process, is the previous grade taken into account at all? Or is the grader seeing the book raw without it's previous label. My hopes and prayers are that it stays 9.8. Or at least that chances of it coming back again in 9.8 is more than 50%.
Is there a chance your LCS left it in it's original slab and you can stop the process. I undesrtand you only wanted to rehold. The LCS should not have removed before submission. I wish your luck on this.

Also, how the heck do I tell CGC that I want a 9.8 pre-screen on the comics ? Do I leave a note in the box with the comics submitted ?
Unless things have changed, if you submit books in a 9.8 prescreen, the books that don't make 9.8 get sent back to you not graded.

In the short term if you are selling a book probably worth having it pressed. The question for those holding onto their books or buying pressed books is what is the long term effect of pressing 10-20 years down the road? Most companies that press keep "secret" the process under which they are pressing. Personal books that you are going to keep until you "die" probably should not be pressed. Just my thought.
Your comment will probably not get acknowledged but I think you are spot on correct. If your book is not pressed, and you have no intention of selling it, then leave it alone. Something else that doesn't get brought up is often the pressed book will revert.

Jeff is quick and reliable, a pleasure to work with. Jeff is a big comic fan and a lot of fun to talk with. I sold a few comics to him and everything went smooth. A++++ for me !

Yes, send the book back. No need to try and figure out what happened to it. That book is damaged, it's not a 10.0 and it will never be a 10.0 again. Do it now. Good luck !

Just an update on where my Copper-Era comic is in the grading process: I submitted it for a pressing and encapsulation (Economy) towards the end of April. It took 2 weeks to show up as received. I'm relatively new to this process, so trying to interpret time frames when utilizing both pressing and grading services was pretty unclear. I can't recall specifics but I believe the pressing time frame listed had been something like 60 business days and the grading timeframe was like 40. This led me to come to the errant conclusion that the pressing and grading process would be completed in 60 business days- (I don't think you can get a pressing without a grade, so it made sense to me that pressing time frame would be bundled to include the grade). Well, my conclusions were wrong. On October 8th, my comic was updated to show as "received" by CGC. I may be mistaken, but i believe I've been booted to the back of the line, so whatever the time frame back in April for encapsulation is now long past relevant and the time frame listed for grading as of 10/8 is where things stand. Also, the last time I submitted for a grade, CGC charged me when they were ready to ship it back to me (I believe). This time around, they charged me when marked as received (around 10/8), so I got pretty excited thinking that a grade was imminent. Oh well, thankfully I'm an adult who had developed the skill of delayed gratification but from a business standpoint CGC and CCS hopefully can pick it up. The demand is certainly there but their resources for completing orders is grossly lacking. Maybe they should slow the train down rather than continuing to stretch their resources so thin (e.g,.being a presence at every comic-con, etc) until they pull together a workforce that can bear the demand
You have to remember that submissions are not processed in the order received. Higher priority is processed first. Your suggestion about 'slowing the train down' would never be considered. If you submit using Economy, you get no priority.

Even if the book gets a 9.8 from CGC, the current value is only worth 50 bucks.

This is just one example. We have probably 200 books to send in. Some have pencil on the back like this and we’re just wondering if the normal clean and press will remove this, You just don’t want to submit that many books without knowing everything they will do under a service. The term “clean” has its limitations and I’m just wondering if pencil removal is part of that. If it’s something that would need to be done under a different service , we want to make sure all of those books go into that tier the first time. Thanks to everyone.
I think a regular clean and press will never try and remove a hand written date. You should really contact CGC/CCP to discuss the situation.

It would appear the book has more serious issues than a small pencil mark, my friend...
I agree ! It makes no sense to try and remove that pencil mark. It will not improve the grade.

I recently got a collection of some really nice silver age comics but a lot of them have date stamps.
Is this considered a defect? If so how does it effect the grade.
Any help would be appreciated.
I had multiple comics of silver age comics with date stamps that received 9.8 . As long as they were stamped neatly and present well, 9.8's are fine. The stamps should also not get smeared by an over aggressive heat press. Smearing the date stamp, in my opinion, ruins the book.

Hello, what happens if the value of my submitted comics are worth more than the Declared value?
CGC covers your books for the amount you specified on your submission form. If you under declared the value, the onus is on you.

Assume further that the book w/o the sticker is at least a blue label 8.0.
How would CGC grade this book with the sticker (assuming it’s an 8.0 w/o the sticker)? Would it get a qualified grade, and if so what? Or a universal, but if so what?
But also wondering what grade would be expected if the sticker were removed and some glue residue remained (making clear the dimensions of the now-removed sticker).
In the 8.0 range, I don't think the sticker will have much impact on the CGC grade. Assuming the sticker has been on it for probably 50 years, I would not try to remove it. There's too much chance of damage. Removing the sticker would be very apparent and probably make the grade worse.

Whoa!! Is that a First Appearance Pope John Paul II? Did the value go up after his Sainthood announcement? Is it to late to speculate?!
There's a lot of slabbed copies of that specific Pope John Paul copy. I think I got A 9.6 copy from early CGC days.

That's a cool book. It looks like it is high grade shape already. I would not chance pressing it and removing or hurting the error foil .

Good evening:
I recently received my grades for some comics I submitted.
One 1 ( A sensation comics 26 ), the comic was given a universal 4.0 however the grader notes said detached back cover. My question is what is a detached back cover?
Is this a back cover completely off the comic? Or does it cover other possibilities? I reason I ask is because before I submitted the book I inspected it and found it to be a solid, complete comic. The covers were firmly attached.
Thank you for any help on this subject.
Did you get your book pressed ? Unfortunately, pressing an old book can cause detachment. As mentioned by boatfund, you really have to show us some pics of the details. A cover can be detached at one staple, both staples, or better yet 'half' of one staple. This is where the single staple is attached at the front and detached at the back or vise versa.

Sorry but I not only feel like your pricing question was asked in the wrong thread, I also don't think we advise on pricing here either. I realize signed slabs are more difficult to price. You have some nice books. I would put them up for sale on auction. Let the market place determine the pricing.

I'm not talking about how long each step might take, obviously that will vary from book to book.
I'm talking about keeping clients informed as to where their books are in the queue/process and giving them some clue as to how long they can expect to wait based on how quickly the queue is moving through each stage. Is the book received, is it in the vault? what grading stage is it at? How many books are in front of it? is it being checked for resto, is it being cleaned, is it in the press, is it cooling off, is it in shipping/transit, is it being encapsulated... All stages that could be easily tracked and reported on, if they had the will to do so.
They are already scanning books as it is at each step. Once the initial barcode is placed, which they already do when they receive the book, no additional time should be required to scan them during each stage. It's a matter of running them under a stationary scanner beam, like a grocery checkout.
I believe a big factor to all this is the grading tier you used. Your submission cue may get bumped back if others submit large quantities into higher cues.
