  1. Big sale at my LCS. Always fun to pick up decent looking DC 10 centers. 2nd appearance of Lady Blackhawk.....
  2. Trimming is probably one of the hardest restorations to detect. Occasionally it is obvious but sometimes it is subtle. There is even such a thing as micro trimming. No good answer for you. The only thing I would advise is if it looks suspicious, then pass.
  3. No status E-Mails from CGC. They usually charge immediately upon receipt of the books. I never thought of it but checking your CC is a good way of verifying they got your books.
  4. Sorry, but I think you are misreading this. It says the second grader does not see what the first grader said until after he enters his grade. At this point the grade is not finalized and the graders can discuss. The graders do not assign the final grade, the finalizer does. He can completely override the graders .
  5. Yes, I talked to them and finally got my order. Interestingly enough, it didn't seem like a big deal to them, like 5 weeks was nothing. I approached the Boards because I was considering canceling my order, calling my CC company to get my money back. I wanted to seek the Boards opinion but all I got was crickets.
  6. Great comic. I'm thinking it's in the 4.0/4.5 range .
  7. I think it is the same book and the I think the area you are talking about was either on the case or the inner well. Depending on environmental conditions, I have seen the inner well get 'spotty' like this. Hard to see the difference in appearance to justify a full grade bump from 6.5 grade to 7.5 though.
  8. Really, I thought the minimum bid in this auction was 100 . 1K would explain it.
  9. I don't know but the book seems to have cooled off lately. I recently won a copy in auction with an early bid that I never thought would take. I also noticed in the Pedigreecomics auction last week a CGC 9.0 White didn't even get a bid ? Not one bid !
  10. IMO, anytime you relinquish a book from your possession to perform a service, there is risk. Whether it is having your book pressed, having it graded, having it signed, or simply giving it to the postman, anything can happen. In the case of SS, you are running the complete gambit of risk, everyone touches it. I think you need to give us some details to get any genuine feedback. We need to understand where the 'fail' happened.
  11. I don't understand. Can't you still do the sale via E-Bay but simply do the pickup locally ? The buyer saves postage costs and you save Paypal fees but E-Bay will still get their sales cut.
  12. I still can't see the pics so I don't even know what book we are talking about as you didn't mention it in the text though I think it is a GL 7 ? I would not waste any more money on the book. IMO, pressing a restored book will yield minimal return, if any. As FineCollector states above, just leave it in mylar. Trust me, you will not be happy with a Purple label slab.
  13. It looks to me like a third print. Here is my slabbed #1 3rd printing, looks the same. http://www.myslabbedcomics.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=11520&GSub=895 It looks a little better than a 2.5/3.0 to me, maybe 4.0 . BTW, if it's a 3rd print, it's not worth much at all, maybe 5.00 bucks. Sorry.
  14. I currently can't see your pic because there is some maintenance migration going on. However, two comments. Depending on what type of ink was used, removal may require literally scraping it off. This results, IMO, in a very fugly looking book, ruins any eye appeal. Second, it often happens that when a book is color touched, they will often perform other restoration such as trimming, tear seal, etc. Personally, I would not have bought the book. I hope the dealer gave you a BIG discount. The marketplace still frowns upon restored books.
  15. That is a good price. Unfortunately, I cannot see the pics, probably because of the migration. What is the Page Quality ?
  16. Yes, and I must admit, Hector is a very handsome man ! Good times all around.
  17. The 1 1/4 boxes of JSC + Hughes ($3 ea) was a very stellar box . Dave's whole inventory was stellar with very reasonable pricing.
  18. I would say the grader's notes validate your original pic, a 'moderate' spine roll. The pic of it in the slab was much more than moderate, probably approaching severe. As the facts are coming in, I'm seeing this as damaged somewhere within the CGC process, probably at encapsulation. I say this because the grader's notes , when the graders saw the book, say moderate spine roll. This implies it happened after the graders handed it off. They will probably ask you to send the book back in. I would hope they 'fix' it for you, probably pressing out the spine roll. I think the grade of 3.0 will be retained. The suggestion above, from Howling Mad, to get the books pressed and regraded is up to you. Just realize the cost will be on you with no guarantee of a grade bump. If the book is damaged while pressing out the spine, the grade can go down. The book looks fragile and may be susceptible to a staple pop, cover getting detached, a piece coming off, etc. My suggestion of letting them 'fix' it and keep the 3.0 should be on their dime. In any case, do not open up the slab. Good luck ! Let us know what they say.
  19. Okay, sounds like you packed it well . This is very puzzling. You should have the grader's notes. Does it say anything about the severity or length of the spine roll ? In your original pic there was a slight spine roll so it should be mentioned.
  20. Note, the first pic of item #3, where the mylar is taped to the cardboard to prevent movement. This is extremely important.
  21. I can now see some of them also. I think the migration is progressing along. This will probably happen in other threads all weekend.
  22. Interesting. Working on the assumption that it was somehow shipping related, something like this can happen if the book is allowed movement inside the box or perhaps inside the mylar. Specifically, did you use a mylar bag or rigid mylar with an open top. If bag, was it sealed on top with tape. Did you tightly secure(tape) the two rigid sheets of cardboard ? Is it possible the mylar inside the two pieces of cardboard had some 'leeway, freedom of movement ? It sounds like you protected the book from outside impact but maybe you did not protect it from movement.
  23. FYI, I think you may be a 'victim' of the attachment migration that was just initiated a few minutes ago. I cannot see your pics. BTW, since you are only displaying pics and no text of what you are listing, we don't even know what you are listing. Putting the title of the book in the text also makes it easier to search later on.
  24. You should have nominated them for the Probation thread !!!
