  1. Trading Gold for Bronze, rare in grade for not rare at all, great PQ in GA for a lesser PQ in Bronze ? I think you will eventually regret this deal.
  2. I've always assumed that a 9.9 or 10.0, besides being flawless, must have other characteristics like perfect centering, staple placement, razor sharp corners, etc. I've never heard of anyone cracking a 9.8 and obtaining a higher grade. IMO, it's like the lottery, you are just basically throwing your money away in a low odds gamble.
  3. I think square bounds books that are pressed look terrible but CGC seems to overlook it. Remember, it is glue holding the cover to the pages. Heat applied to glue ? Years ago, I brought a square bound book to Matt himself at a convention and he said he does not recommend pressing a square bound books. I'm sure he has since changed his mind and others will come on here to say it's okay so use your own judgement.
  4. Yes, those are definitely color breaking spine creases. Fair warning, in the hands of the wrong presser, a crease at the staple can become worse with a press.
  5. I think taking a coverless book and selling off the individual pages is cool and I acknowledge your point that it gives more collectors a chance to own a 'piece'. However, chopping up the individual pages into panels seems to be taking this sharing concept too far. None of this is good samaritan motivated anyway. It's ironic that comic books started out as a compilation of comic strips. We're getting back to our roots here.
  6. Interesting. If it's not legit on PP, I don't see why it's okay here ? I realize we see the +3% a lot here but this seller was unique because he ONLY accepted Paypal. Usually we see check or MO, PP + 3%, buyer's choice, which is okay. Seems better, if it's only Paypal, to just include it in the price.
  7. First off, I do think that reader's crease breaks color, forget that book. Regarding the spine stress, keep in mind that the book has some pressure on it in the slab, sometimes making the lines hard to see. Sometimes you have to deslab the book to see what they are talking about. Fingerprints on a black cover will be tough to remove. Remember, fingers leave oil and it cannot be 'erased'. It would have to be dabbed off, not a sure thing. I think your best chance of improvement is on the ASM 300 with the spine stress.
  8. Is this legit ? Not sure why you wouldn't simply include it in the price if the seller only accepts Paypal. Rubs me the wrong way but not sure if it is within Board Rules. Payment: Paypal + 3% only please
  9. Even if they are first prints (somehow I doubt it), it's not worth getting them slabbed. There's real not much of a market for this title anymore and the examples you show look to be about 8.0 range. You see them at flea markets all the time and unless they are heavily discounted they sit forever.
  10. I don't like the looks of that packaging at all. Is this something new ? Doesn't look very secure.
  11. What you are calling a scratch, may be a tape pull, hard to tell as the pic is terrible. There is no hierarchy, simply because each flaw can have it's own degree of severity. Example, what if I said a stain is worse than a tear and we have a situation where the stain is 'tiny' but the tear is long. Of course the long tear is worse than the tiny stain. However, a big stain would be worse than a big tear. There are countless flaws. They are all 'bad', how bad depends on individual severity.
  12. Not the place to discuss. I just think an auction would benefit the seller and be more fair for the buyers. Win/Win.
  13. I'm not sure I understand your comment 'an auction on a book like this stays plausible for only a short time'. I had to look up the definition of egalitarian and I am not sure it applies to selling a comic book online but whatever. Even you admitted an auction would bring the highest return for the seller and what's wrong with that? And it would, at least, give the buyers a 'shot' at the book. Trust me, with a straight up sale, you might as well hand it off to Comcav right now.
  14. I'd seriously consider having a Board auction on the Okajima . It will be the only chance any of us have at it getting it before Comcav and you will probably get a better price. Don't guess at the price, let the marketplace determine the value.
  15. Curious why you say this ? It appears your Take It was first. For the sake of Board Sales Integrity, please expound. Comcav wins enough on his own without doing him favors like this !
  16. That's what I understand, once a week. I think they 'usually' update over the weekend, available on Monday.
  17. I think it was an easy 8.0 but, you have to look close, there was some front cover color rubbed off trying to remove some dirt or something. I think this brings it down to 7.0, tops.
  18. It looks like he tried to remove some of the black lines from the yellow portion also and then stopped when the yellow starting rubbing off ? As far as eye appeal, when looking at this book, it's obvious what happened. The line is intermittent, broken off in the white areas, the yellow area was rubbed off, and as you said you can see loss of cover gloss. Sorry but I think it looks terrible and no value was added, probably lost value because it will now grade lower.
  19. I don't think your friend should have even attempted to remove that from the front cover. Just stick to the white areas of the Back Cover. It shouldn't be considered restoration, as long as he only did a dry wipe, no chemicals. However, CGC does not like this and it will be taken into account when grading. On a personal level I absolutely hate the sight of something like this. It's obviously not original to the book. Why would you give him nice book like this to work on ?
  20. My thoughts exactly. I think the top edge may be a victim of the dreaded SCS(Shaken Comic Syndrome). I love the old labels but many times the books would be really loose inside. After a rough shipment, a slight bend will turn into a big bend, sometimes even tears. As it stands, this book would have to be pressed back to an 8.0 . If the work is good, there's an outside chance of an 8.5 here. Love this book though and it is a 'key'. If you would be content to have it stay an 8.0 in a new label, get it pressed and resubmitted. If you are looking for a flip and grade bump, don't bother.
