  1. It's still an ASM 194. If the book is in nice shape otherwise, it may still be worth submitting. What do you think the grade is without the flaw ? I may have overreacted by stating 'big hit', more like a moderate hit, like 9.6 to 9.2 type of hit.
  2. I think you can safely say this was 'man made'. Technically, the distributor spray was 'man made' but since it was such a common practice, CGC allows it in moderation. In any case, this example would take a big hit. Personally, I would like to see CGC treat all flaws the same, no matter how they occurred. A flaw is a flaw. Isn't it ?
  3. Wow, great looking book. I love the signature placement and color on both.
  4. I don't have experience submitting books through a facilitator for signatures so I may be wrong but I always thought, for insurance reasons, CGC never holds books in house once they are graded. In a non signature submission the books would be sent back per the tiers, as they are ready.
  5. Maybe on the indentation but the second 'boxed' flaw looks color breaking. I suspect the indentation was okay with CGC but the color break lowered it to 9.6 . My answer would be No, a press will not get you a 9.8 but I will defer to the opinions of others.
  6. With enough heat and humidity a press will turn any book into a 9.8, no problemo. Seriously, I can't make out anything from your pics. Question for you, is it worth the expense of a press and regrade for this book ?
  7. At first I didn't like the concept and thought it was wrong of CGC to encapsulate them. However, I have changed my mind. It appears no decent copies of books are being pieced out, only the absolute drek copies, so no real harm done.
  8. Sharon, in the interest of intellectual curiosity, it would be interesting to hear from CGC on this. I know you are okay with it but since you did bring it to our attention it would be appreciated if you contacted them. Someone else said they also received a Qualified so I doubt it is a 'mistake'. It does sound like the wraps separated from the handling so maybe it was a .5 without the Incomplete flaw. It's like getting a school grade of F-. Crazy.
  9. Ouch. I was curious about the process for getting a money order refund. It looks like each company has different rules. With Money gram it said ... MoneyGram will also not refund cash for a money order, but will reissue a new money order (if it has not already been cashed).
  10. I think we have to see the notes. We know it has Brittle Pages, what if there is another major flaw like cover detached, maybe that puts it at .5 without the Incomplete. Is .5 the lowest they go ?
  11. Same here, doesn't seem to make sense. Was there another defect(s) that would have caused it to be .5 without the Incomplete ? By definition the grade ignores the flaw on a Qualified. Not sure if CGC goes below .5, at least I can't remember seeing an example. Show us the Notes.
  12. Terrific transaction. I just bought a slabbed book from John. The communication was excellent, he shipped immediately, and the book was packaged very well. No hesitations about doing more business with John. Highly recommended.
  13. Listen Liz, I wasn't 'blitchin' just making a suggestion. The main title has a start date of Sunday stating Closes @ Midnight. That may cause some folks to move on thinking the auction is history. No matter to me.
  14. Post pics of your books the in the thread 'Buddy, Can you spare a Grade' and see what everyone thinks. After that, research the valuation via E-Bay sales (not asking prices). Then you should be able to answer your own question.
  15. I've noticed on the new slabs, which are very crystal clear, that books with nice eye appeal look even better in the slab. However, I've also noticed that books without eye appeal look worse. It's as if the slab magnifies some flaws. Also, with very fragile looking books like this one, chips from the pages or cover can fall off in the slab. Seeing chips laying at the bottom of the inner well can drive some of us OCD collectors crazy. Just saying.
  16. Is it really worth getting graded in this condition ?
  17. Really nice books. Two questions: How can a link not work ? Maybe you copied a link while you were logged in with your ID and the content was only for your eyes ? Also, am I missing something but these are all auctions, no BIN. How can you claim they are priced below GPA ?
  18. I really think a new thread for the new item should be considered. It's too confusing.
  19. Notice the book was graded in 2012, a very loose era for CGC grading. Everyone says they are now currently in a very tight grading period. Based on the notes, I think the book has a better chance of a downgrade . The book presents well, nice eye appeal. I can see why you thought it may have a chance but the notes say otherwise. Additionally, Joey says otherwise. Sorry but you still have a nice book.
  20. The stain, especially on the BC, is pretty large. IMO, the stain alone brings it down to 4.5 . Now factor in some of the other flaws. BTW, it is my understanding that, unlike a Qualified grade which ignores a flaw, an apparent grade still takes the flaw into consideration. I have usually been surprised to the downside on Purple Label books but sometimes they will give you a 'pity' grade. I'll go with 4.0 here as the book generally presents well.
  21. You are probably correct, I was not considering the value in the repo cover itself. BTW, coverless books have a little more value nowadays.
  22. It would help if you could show the grader's notes. This will not be a cheap endeavor, so you need to be sure.
