THE GIRL DOES HAVE A NAME
Bomber-Bob replied to RegistryAdministrator's topic in CGC Registry (Comics)
Knowing what Rick Starr collects, I believe there is an error on the label. He would have the JIM 17 from the 1950's, not 1975. -
CGC will grade each cover, note in on the label, and give it an overall grade of the higher of the two. However, not sure if it's worth sending to CGC as the book appears to be in rough shape, not a key, poor page quality, etc. Unless it's a major key, I don't think double covers go for big multiples. DO a keyword search on E-Bay for double cover and see what you can find. Make sure you look in the Sold category, asking prices on E-Bay are often unrealistic. You paid 3 dollars, maybe it's worth 5 or 6 dollars, not a big score here. Sorry.

I've also seen color fade on some of my books after pressing. I mentioned this once on the Boards and got a unanimous Bah Humbug. It's nice to get validation from someone else. I concur with your other comments also that it is probably not color fade. However, if it were color fade, CGC will definitely downgrade. A friend had a beautiful Hulk 102 that he sent in. In hand it looked flawless. It got a 9.0 . He called (in the old days you called for notes) and the only flaw was color fade, 9.6 otherwise. Personally, I stay away from color fade. IMO, it's very annoying to look at.

Yes, that was my first thought upon seeing it. Maybe they allow smoking in the slabbing room ?!? -
(CLOSED) 20 + SLABS FOR SALE **FINAL MARKDOWNS**
Bomber-Bob replied to GAFLASH's topic in Golden/Silver/Bronze Age Only
Hey Lanier, nice books ! Got here a little late, keep them coming. -
Welcome to the Boards. Though somebody may answer your question here, the proper place to put a question like this is in the Ask CGC thread. The Boards are very OCD about putting posts in the proper location. In some cases they will delete your post.

ASM 238 Appreciation/Club Thread
Bomber-Bob replied to Paddy_McShillihan's topic in Copper Age Comic Books
I noticed something odd on the back cover, not a problem, not a flaw. If you look on the left edge, about an inch from the top, there is a 'strange' marking. I looked on E-Bay and did see a couple other copies with the same mark. My book, and the couple other examples I found , are Newsstand copies. Again, not a problem, just a geeky observation. -

Cracked case. What is fair compensation ?

I think you are also spot on with your statements. The 6 week estimate probably comes from the fact that the auction house combines shipping. My book will not be shipped alone. -

I think you are spot on with the low offer is to prevent scamming. They even mentioned this. However, I think the 6 week reholder turnaround is to get you to take the low offer instead. Good advice, appreciate it. -

No, you misread my comments. I did not take it out of the slab, I sent it back in the slab. They regraded it and the new encapsulation was worse than the first, at which point I gave up and simply removed it from the slab. Sorry but this is the last time I answer a care to elaborate comment. It's not what I wanted to bring up or discuss. I agree with your comments, if you are sending back a book, leave it in the slab. Absolutely the correct advice. -

I recognized, and made comment, that I was sweating the small stuff here. Normally, I concur with your statement. But sometimes it is the attitude of the other party(in this case the auction house) that makes you take a 'stand'. -

I did not come here to talk about my past reholder experience. I made reference to being hesitant about sending books in to be reholdered and was asked to elaborate. From your comments, I am sorry I said anything. Not really sure why you felt the need to make me feel like I did something wrong, like it's all my bad. Buying a book with sustained damage is not fun. I hope you never have a bad experience. -

Sure, though the company shall remain anonymous for now. Bought a slab (early Flash 10 center) from a dealer online. In hand the book had obvious waves. The dealer arranged for me to send it back to the slabbing company for review and reholder. Turns out they regraded it. It kept the same grade but the notes had an added notation about 'crinkling'. I get the book back and it was wedged very tightly against the upper edge. It now has both waves and a top edge crunch. I took it out of the slab. They gave me a 50.00 credit (not worth it). They are not acknowledging my request for proper compensation. -
I just received some winnings from an unnamed auction house to find one of the books has a cracked case. They have offered two solutions. One: I can send it back to them, on their dime, and they will get it reholdered. Two: I can get a 15.00 credit. Seems fair but I'm not feeling good about it. Curious to see what you think. - The books were packaged fine, plenty of inside layers, not a dent on the box = doesn't seem to be a packaging or delivery problem. - If I send the book back for reholder, I was told to expect a 6 week wait. The book gets shipped back to the auction house, CGC return shipping will also go back to the auction house. - I've had some bad experiences with reholdering in the past and would prefer to simply take the credit, maybe deslab the book into mylar. However, the 15.00 amount seems low to me, only compensating for the CGC costs. My question, is it fair to expect more than a 15.00 credit ? I asked for an amount equal to my original shipping costs = we are only talking about a few dollars more but the auction house would not budge. Yes, I realize I am sweating the small stuff here. BTW, 500 book .

Understand that the 9.0 is more valuable to the dealer than the 8.0. From his perspective he is downgrading to something that will be harder to sell. You cannot expect to get FMV credit towards towards the upgrade. I like the advice about selling it privately but obviously that is more work.
