  1. I always thought that the receiving department marks the invoices as received. Since there is only one receiving department , I don't think there is any difference for grading vs reholder. I think you have a legitimate concern and should have called CGC immediately. However, I would think the receiving department would have opened up all packaging to make sure.
  2. I agree that the Seller should not have been negotiating another PM deal. I also thought that "First Take It in the thread trumps all else" is implied to mean an Unconditional Take It trumps all else. It's obvious Grantley really wants this book. I think he should get it.
  3. Is it really a printing error ? I would think it was a stacking error, ink from another book rubbed off. I don't think it's a common problem for this issue, at least I don't remember seeing it.
  4. I have to side with Grantley on this one, seems to be a done deal. If the sale is not honored to Grantley, I believe Grantley has a good case to nominate Pablo for probation.
  5. And that's why you are going to have trouble purchasing quality material for a fair price. It seems you want to win every transaction by trying to factor in the worst case scenario. Good luck with that.
  6. Bad analogy. These are planned expenses. The popped staple was not planned.
  7. Sorry but I don't agree with you at all. You cannot expect the seller to assume financial coverage for any future mishaps.
  8. Since we shifted the topic from Dealer grading to Dealer Pricing, I really dislike trying to purchase consignment items from dealers. It seems consignments are generally priced with yet more padding and less room for negotiations.
  9. Just completed my first transaction with Rick. I bought two Planet comics, one raw, one slabbed. An excellent experience. The books were packaged securely, shipped quickly, and great communication from Rick on status. Rick has such great product to offer at reasonable prices. He is a valuable asset to the Boards. Thanks for everything Rick !
  10. Thanks for the clarification. There was another question, submitted here recently, that asked the broader question of 'how long does it take CGC to become aware of common bindery flaws'. Naturally, the answer to such a a question is 'it depends', however, after your experience maybe we can say 9 years , .
  11. I agree that does not look like a 9.6, very soft grade. That corner crease alone should hold it significantly below 9.6 . From what I can ascertain, I do think the pages look White. The OWL card is interesting but is never really used . I don't think the slab was tampered with. I would advise selling it. Trust me, you will always be annoyed when looking at it.
  12. This is all you took from our responses ? You single out one questionable reason to debate and make a broad stroke ridicule. What is your objective in this conversation ? I trust this is all tongue in cheek .
  13. Sure, it helps the buyer (Doug) have a new base to list it in auction. It's cool with me as BB28 seems to be undervalued anyway. This specific copy looks really nice. The small group of OO books that this book came from all looked really nice.
  14. Actually, this is the 3rd sale of this book this summer. However, it was originally a 7.5 , which is why Doug's spiel about how it is undergraded and should be a 9.2 is humorous.
  15. I recently bought a slab from Colin, excellent communication, fast and safe shipping. A totally enjoyable transaction with a great Boardie. Highly recommended!
  16. Absolutely. I've removed many a book from it's slab solely because I didn't like the way it was encapsulated and feared damage. I've also removed books because the slab itself was beat up, lots of scratches. One time there was a hair inside the inner well, drove me nuts, I had to crack it.
  17. If you find a dealer that grades accurately and offers fair prices, spend your money there AND keep it to yourself ! I like to go to a convention on setup day and watch where the other dealers are hanging out. Find a dealer's dealer and see if he will let you hunt with the big dogs. I think the smart play for dealers at a convention is to simply sticker a price, not a grade. Takes any arguments about the grade out of the equation. Puts the onus on the Buyer, which is where it should be.
  18. Nice first post. I trust you are over age 12, maybe even an adult ? If so then perhaps you should consider showing some respect and maturity toward people enjoying their hobby.
  19. Never heard of this problem. Yet another thing us anal collectors have to worry about, the placement of the micro-chamber paper ?!?
  20. Surely after two submissions, the notes must say something that gives a clue as to the grade ? Show us the notes. We also cannot assume that the book was delivered to CGC in the same condition as when the dealer had it. The OP hints at his own inexperience. Perhaps the book was damaged during handling or shipping to CGC. Perhaps a centerfold came loose, or sustained an impact ding. Was it pressed ? I'm just saying this may not be the dealer's fault.
  21. FYI, I have asked this question in the ASK CGC thread. Let's see if they answer.
  22. First, I would take a detailed inventory of your son's comics, making note of the title and the issue number. Next, you will want to identify any key books, the ones that are most desirable with more value. You can use E-Bay sales as a source or buy an Overstreet Price Guide. The next step, probably the most difficult, is to assign a grade to your books. I would suggest you find someone you can trust to help you, possibly a Local Comic Shop Owner ? Whatever you do, don't sell them as a lot to anyone 'helping' you until you can ascertain a proper value . Trust me, some will try and take advantage of you. Good luck.
