  1. October makes a very good point. The format of the VCC is detrimental to those select few who can make their sales thread an 'event'. IMO, if we have more sellers in the VCC, the buyers will come. If we can only think of some way to make it more advantageous for the sellers to participate in the VCC = make the VCC an 'event', all would be well again.
  2. Not sure what is going on there. Hopefully, it's a bad scan but it looks like the inner well is melting ? Just teasing but I hope you look over the book itself with as much scrutiny as you do the holder ! Buy the book, not the holder.
  3. Interesting. I've never seen this either but I've heard they take a miscut into consideration on the high grades. Perhaps they are simply putting more info into the notes lately.
  4. Some nice book being displayed here lately. Why does Avengers 1 lag the other Marvel keys ? Sgt Fury 13 is an under appreciated book. Why no love for The Atom ? Some of the covers of these early Atom issues are great. Awesome JIM 89, nice colors. Absolutely my favorite cover of all time.
  5. Condition is king. I would not buy just any beater book from the 50's. Except for keys, keep an eye for VG+ or better.
  6. There are no established rules for 'highest grade with a certain flaw'. The best anyone can answer is by personal experience. Personally, I think it is a big flaw and 5.0 is a really high grade for a Blue Label stitched book.
  7. I think the VCC has been running out of steam before the new Boards = it is not the fault of the New Boards. Not sure why but participation, especially by Sellers, has waned. Sad.
  8. Too broad of a question, you need to give more information. What's the specifics of the restoration.
  9. Definitely yes on the dehumidifier (you said humidifier but I think you meant dehumidifier.
  10. Don't look it up as Amazing Spider-man 678 Variant, look it up as Amazing Spider-Man 678 and in the content you will see the variant.
  11. Thanks for the review. I was on the fence but ultimately did not go. I talked to someone that went on Saturday who also attended the Dupage show. His comments were similar to yours, saying it was basically the same identical dealers. He did not buy anything at this show. BTW, I think I know the dealer you are referencing with the 5X prices and if I'm not mistaken, he is the one running the show.
  12. Once, when I had a similar problem, I talked to the lady in accounting and I remember she called me when the payment arrived. In my situation the problem turned out to be local as the mailbox I dropped the envelope in apparently was not picked up until days later. In any case, good luck !
  13. The OP stresses he collects both vinyl records and comic books. I also collect vinyl records, especially 45's with collectible picture sleeves (paper). I also collect some non Sports cards, sheet music, TV Guides, etc. Lots of paper. I have nearly everything in Mylar products. Most items are in the basement with a dehumidifier. I've never encountered anything like mold spores. It has to be an environmental issue. Blaming the Mylar is crazy.
  14. Nice book. Cover colors look good. That blue background often fades on this book. 8.0 looks about right. Love the date stamp.
  15. I had an opportunity to buy a raw Spawn #1 UPC recently for current FMV pricing. It was tempting but at the last minute I came to my senses. Now I love variants, 2nd printings, DCU, etc but I just don't see the big deal about Spawn #1 with the UPC. I suspect, after the few individuals chasing these get a copy, the prices will fall in half.
  16. I really think the auction route is the only way to ascertain FMV for something like this. While I concur on the premium aspect for sealed comics, it usually only applies to more desirable books. The books mentioned here would probably not get Overstreet prices if offered individually. I don't think you will get much for this sealed pack. Sorry.
  17. Where are the price changes ? I don't see them in the recap.
  18. If you ever decide to send them in, simply get them pressed. Light waves like this, without any creasing, is a perfect application for a light press.
  19. Actually, it seems they do process the credit card transactions first, as they should. I was just commenting on the check vs M.O. processing with the Banking Lockbox. Hey, after all this discussion I hope the OP gives us status updates.
  20. I wonder, when dropping off payment to a lockbox, if the clearing for a Postal MO simply takes longer ? If Clink is reading this, maybe they can shed some light on the subject. Hey ComicLink, you out there
  21. I would not remove the string. At least the string gives it a little character. Bare holes are just that and less eye appeal. IMO, much like tape, it should be graded the same either way. The string does not 'hide' the flaw. 2.0 sounds about right.
  22. Good point. If it's a matter of sentence structure or possibly spelling in a context sense (their vs there) I totally agree. But if it's just plain bad spelling (tacking vs tracking), my Spidey Sense usually thinks lazy. Hey, I make typos and misspell also but, after rereading, I correct them. especially in the Title. There is also a spell check here.
  23. Some comments on Qualified, especially regarding detachments. - If you are talking about a staple being completely detached from both the front and back cover it will get a Green Qualified label. Some mention the choice for a blue or green label is up to the submitter, I have never heard of CGC calling the submitter to ask. I suppose, after getting it graded as a Green Label, you can resubmit and ask for blue but I don't think you would be happy with the grade. - If the cover is detached from both staples you will get a Blue label with a notation and a really low grade. I don't know if they will give a completely detached cover a Green label. - It is possible to have one staple partially detached = off the front cover but still attached on the Back cover or vice versa. CGC usually will give it a blue label, no notation, and knock points off the grade. I personally submitted a book like this, one staple partially detached, and got a Blue 9.0 . Keep in mind it was a stunning 9.6/9.8 book and the detached staple was not apparent to the naked eye without opening up the book. Sorry, I will not show a pic of this book. - Centerfolds are a completely different story from the covers. One staple will usually get a Blue with a hammered grade, two staples will probably get a Green. Of course, all of this is subjective, based off of my personal experience. Another thing to consider is the damage caused by the detached staple. Some have tears, others are clean and probably bindery. This is considered by CGC when deciding to assign Green or Blue and how much the grade is hammered. Hope this helps.
