  1. Shaken Comic Syndrome . Basically, books sustaining damage from movement in the inner well.
  2. It looks like the book successfully sold in auction so it is now with a new owner. If this has been documented as stolen property, the new owner has to give it back. I just don't know how the overseas aspects muddles this up from a law perspective. BTW, regarding USPS not getting a signature. Perhaps a courtesy tip was negotiated ?
  3. That's it, from Renton, WA also. It was listed on June 24, obviously before the book arrived. This new info needs to be reported to Paypal.
  4. Maybe I read it wrong but aren't these just ideas being tossed around = speculation ?
  5. I so hate to see this kind of dishonesty.` Is a signature an option when mailing from the UK to the US ?
  6. Someone please videotape this feat of magic. Seriously.
  7. I concur on the SCS era. I think CGC started employing a wedge more often, which definitely helps contain SCS. However, the extensive use of the wedge has introduced another 'silent killer'. Though it has no acronym, the situation where the cover sticks to the inner well while the inner pages move. This causes stress on the staple area, sometimes incurring damage. While SCS damage can usually be pressed out, damage to the staple area is permanent. The OCD comic collector just can't win.
  8. I heard dipping it in vinegar first whitens the pages. Using bleach at full strength, do not dilute, will get rid of any stains. Try dipping it in beer to get rid of odors. To save time in the hydration process, take the book with you into the shower (any Seinfeld fans out there?). Whatever you do, do not put it into the microwave.
  9. Just got this in hand today from the recent Pedigree auction. BTW, it's nice to see Doug slowly listing more DC in his auctions ! Since the old label case looked a little dingy, I decided to deslab it. It looked awesome in hand with the covers inks still strong. Since the topic gets brought up once in a while, the page quality look more White = did not deteriorate in the slab. Also, the micro chamber sheets looked great, nearly fresh. I think these sheets do their job a lot longer than the 7 year 'estimate'. I love opening up the old label slabs. They are so easy to open up. I didn't even need a scissors on the inner well, it just peeled off. IMO, much safer.
  10. Always loved the situations Atom got himself into. Love this cover and the bright red inks....
  11. Maybe not my absolute favorite, but close. This book never seems to get any love.....
  12. Perhaps another 'newbie' pulling a prank on us ???? Sometimes these questions just can't be real, only meant to bait.
  13. Do not take the book out of the slab. If sent in without the label your book will be regraded, at your expense, and it may not get a 9.8 again. Not sure why you are asking about submitting the book 'without label'. Nothing to gain by doing that.
  14. I somehow get the feeling that many of these 'newbie' first posts are simply old/existing members pulling pranks on us.
  15. Jason, you have to realize the price of 13K for the 8.5 was as the Single Highest Graded. Whenever the second copy of Highest Graded comes along, all things being equal, the price goes down.
  16. We should have an endangered species designation for Keys that are still in an old label. We only see them when someone is liquidating a collection, whereupon they get swept up and 'processed'. I don't think some of these flippers realize the intrinsic value of these old labels that actual translate into real financials. The marketplace rewards old labels for both their originality and their 'potential'. . I have a feeling Jason will take the gamble because, no offense to Jason, this is what flippers do. @Jason, realize that even if the grade stays the same, you lose. A bump to an 8.5 will only be worth it if the book keeps the White Pages. Though the 8.5 would be highest graded, the FMV drops from an 8.5 as single highest graded. IMO, you need a 9.0 to make it worthwhile.
  17. I don't think any CGC graders are going to give you an opinion, either here or on the phone, without the book in hand. Since your motivation is strictly financial, please consider many of us will pay a premium for both the White pages and the old label. Personally, I would be scared of losing the White Page designation, truly rare on a book from that era. Plus, between all the handling from you to CCS to CGC and back to you, well anything can happen. It's a gamble and anybody that tells you it is not a gamble is lying.
  18. Though not considered in the grade, some of us consider it a bonus, adds to the vintage aura of the book.
  19. Now that you mention it, the label better be straight also !
  20. HAHA, we are anal. I remember, before CGC, these minute flaws did not bother me as much. Now it's a different story. The book has to be perfect, the alignment in the slab has to be perfect, the slab has to be perfect, it's crazy !
  21. Could this be a case where the book shifted inside the inner well ? Sometimes the cover will 'stick', maybe static electricity, while the pages shift around. It's happened to me a couple times over the years.
  22. Correct but I always said I disliked the fact that CGC ignores these types of flaws, bindery or not. No matter what the reason, the flaw is there and it is annoying. People expect a 9.8 to look 'flawless'. I remember, while discussing slabs, somebody in my LCS mentioned he bought a 9.8 slab on E-Bay, it looked terrible, and he said he would never buy a slabbed book again. You are paying a huge premium to get you favorite book in a CGC 9.8 and it looks terrible. Not good. Sorry, just taking an opportunity to rant.
