  1. I think the term is very broad based, not always a literal fingerprint, but some form of residue as a result of handling. Though most of us don't have 'dirty' hands when handling, there is usually some oil . If you grab and hold a book by pinching it between your thumb and finger you have probably left a mark of some sort. These 'fingerprints' are very hard to display with a scan or pic, as you usually have to look at an angle. A slab tends to hide them also.
  2. Well, here's the situation. Obviously CGC does not know the history of the book, where it came from, if it was read, etc. The grade will hinge on whether CGC considers it bindery or not. If they see it a lot on the same specific issue, they will probably consider it bindery. If not, it's a reader's crease to them and it will affect the grade, probably more than you would tolerate. If you tell us the specific issue, maybe somebody else can look at their copy to help you out.
  3. Just an FYI regarding the pension loan. While on the surface it sounds like a good deal, with the interest going back into the account principle, there is a drawback. You are paying back the loan with after tax money, money that has already been taxed once, and putting it into an account that will some day be subject to tax. So, the money you are paying back will essentially be taxed twice. Not so neat. Sorry.
  4. Are you talking about the vertical crease along the spine ? If so, it may be the book was opened or read wide enough to cause indentation, a reader's crease.
  5. It's no different than someone taking a book down from E-Bay. Clink may be able to call the owner but chances are he sold the book somewhere else.
  6. Hep, as always, good stuff. I starting buying comics maybe one year earlier than you. They were a dime when I started but soon increased to 12 cents. My 25 cent a week allocation went from two comics and a nickel candy bar to two comics and a penny gumball. Naturally, at that time, DC was king. I remember seeing Marvel comics popping up and I was torn on how to allocate my funds. I slowly started buying more Marvel but never fully converted into a Marvel junkie. To this day, I am still 'loyal' to DC. Curious, did you buy any Marvel ?
  7. SC22 now feels he can make any comment he wants because he 'supposedly' has the moderators on his side. He can say demeaning things to us, but we are bullies if we reply. IMO, SC22 is an instigator, trying to bait us. Proceed cautiously, don't take the bait.
  8. I don't understand your new attitude at all. You accuse us of bullying you, threatening to notify the mods to get people banned. If you ask me, you are baiting, something the mods don't approve of either. You say the most ridiculous things and as soon as someone reacts you hit the mod button. That is baiting. You are the one that should be banned. Many of us have tried to be nice to you but to not avail. Please leave.
  9. I never heard of anything like that. The new design of the slabs are nearly impossible to tamper with. In order to open the slab, it must literally be broken into pieces. The older design was easier to open while keeping the slab nearly intact. The tell tale sign was a broken post, not always visible in a scan.
  10. I totally concur with your statement. But if you read through this thread, the very existence of these stickers seem to get folks riled up. Puzzling.
  11. I am confused as to why these CVA stickers are getting so much hate from Boardies. First off, as a buyer, the CVA stickers don't cost you anything. If you notice, they are mostly used by Comiclink, whose auctions never show a pic of the Back cover. They are small and can be removed easily. So why is everyone annoyed ? It's just more information that you can use to make a better purchasing decision.
  12. It may be the pics but I believe I see quite a bit of staining on the Front cover. If they are indeed stains, they will keep this book in the midgrade range. I see it in the 6.0 - 7.0 range.
  13. HAHA, I know what you mean. I hate this thread. It should be a snapshot in time but it keeps getting resurrected.
  14. Pardon me sir but weren't you the one that posted about buying some NM books at a convention and didn't take the books out of the bag and board until getting home. At that point you were concerned about some markings. In light of that, I find your comments here humorous. Sorry.
  15. BTW, you can often 'hide' a printer's crease by taking a pic of the book at a certain angle. Sometimes a printer's crease cannot be seen while looking straight at the book. You have to angle it in light to catch the reflection. I dislike printer's creases and avoid them but, if not hand, I may not see it.
  16. I have a pet peeve against staple rust. When the staple(s) is precisely on the vertex, even a BC scan won't help ascertain a problem. You need to have a side view, which is never offered. I trust the presence of a CVA sticker indicates the staples are fine.
  17. I'm pretty sure that is a tear. Those color breaking readers creases are quite long. Quite a few Marvel chips missing. Nice book but I am hesitant to say it would make a 6.0 . I feel more comfortable @ 5.5 .
  18. Just got this today. Proud to be in the Club............
  19. If you can access the book in hand, I totally agree with you. However, if viewing only online, I disagree. Especially with Comiclink where they never show the Back cover. In theory, the CVA sticker tells me the Back cover looks good. BTW, I would never purchase this service but I like it when buying.
  20. I realize I am in the minority but I like the CVA sticker. However, in your case, both books are 9.8 and should speak for themselves. I like CVA for low grade up to 8.5 range. After that the grade alone should do the talking. In the lower grades the CVA sticker tells me the book looks good for it's grade. In uber high grade, no need.
  21. I don't understand CC's reason for making it so difficult to see sales. Who keeps E-Mails around anymore ?
  22. The bottom right corner has a significant impact ding with numerous creases, you can see it all the way through the BC. Large color breaking crease on the bottom edge. There are some spine ticks though I must admit the spine looks pretty good overall. The bottom left corner has some problems.
  23. Nice book but a number of small problems. I'm at 7.5 tops. I just don't think it will make 8.0 .
